If I can ever afford a luxury watch, Grand Seiko would be my first acquisition. No doubt. Thank you as always for the thorough review and history lesson.
I'm working towards either an "entry" Grand Seiko quartz or a nice Longines at a similar price for my first and only "luxury" watch - going to take a couple of years!
You have without a doubt the absolute best intros in the watch community!! Your videos are the standard by which all other watch videos are evaluated. Your reviews are concise, honest, and independent of any outside influences. I always feel like I can trust your assessments of the watches reviewed. Approximately half of the watches in my very modest collection are the direct result of your videos. To say “thank you” seems somehow inadequate but the fact remains that I am truly grateful for your channel and all of the effort you put into every single video. Well done!🥃
Tristano, you've outdone yourself! This is simply an amazing video! You've turned a premiere watch brand into a historical narrative on Japanese watch culture! Even the intro of this video and the classical piece was exceptional. Well done!!! Bis....bis! Encore!
As always, informative, entertaining, and inspiring. That case shape alone is enough to sell the watch, but that dial is a treat. Thank you for such a top-notch presentation! All the best-
Appreciate your circumspect approach to detailing your watches. It places the watch within its proper context and allows the viewer to better understand not only the “what” but the “why” as well. 🤓
This watch has to be seen firsthand to be understood. The dial is unbelievable. I tried one on several months ago and it absolutely blew my mind. The finishing is out of this world on this one, a cut above even Grand Seiko's usual high bar. While the bracelet isn't perfect - no micro adjust, no taper, lug width - it is a wonder on the wrist!
I get it now why I love your channel so much.. you’re the Sir David Attenborough of the watch world. Slow, steady, insightful and knowledgeable. Love it!
You made our day. I read your comment out aloud to my wife, we both thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Onwards and ever upwards! Best regards TGV
Hey mate, need your considered advice. I’m fixated about the GS SBGK017. I’m in my watch collection journey that it’s all become ho hum with Sports style or dive watches. I’ve got Squale x 3 omega PO 2500, Hamiltons, all sit in my watch box and not really in rotation perhaps due to the fact I don’t want them damaged cause they are so damn beautiful. . I remember your episode where you felt like culling your Collection and redefining your collection to suit your personality as of now. My question is how do you get rid of pieces that you’re “attached” to, to just one or two watches that fits your person at this time? Big ask I know. I only ask as I think you’re going through the same process as me. Cheers
Seeing Sir Roger Moore showing off the Hamilton Quartz, and a Rolex sub, in the same film, 1973s Live and Let die..evidence the early quartz technology was making the main stage, and yes changed the world of watchmaking. Great vid as always TGV. ❤
Ive always placed Japanese watches at the same level if not above when it comes to the affordable level. Id wager any Orient Star would always beat the equivalently priced Swiss watch. Never been a fan of small seconds so not my favourite Grand Seiko design. But i wouldn't hesitate to consider a Grand Seiko purchase above any other luxury watch purchase. The effort always shows which is a factor that just can't be ignored. Hope you and your family are healthy and well sir. Have a great upcoming week
Thank you Chris, I need to revisit Orient Star, duly noted. Have a great rest of the weekend and I hope you and your family are well too. Onwards, upwards and chin chin! TGV
Another magnificently done video! While this watch is well beyond what I’m willing to spend, it is very striking, particularly for a GS. What struck me besides that beautiful dial is the way the case curves upward into the crystal and the curve continues. It looks like all of one design, very much like a streamlined car. Exquisitely done.
I got into the hobby as a Seiko fan boy, like everyone else, of course. Eventually, I bought my GS sbgv 207. So pretty and exquisite, with both dial and case really demonstrating that famous attention to detail and finishing. I loved it. So I never really worked out why I found it a bit boring. It's something I've become aware of with even the prettiest GS Snowflake. Is it the same here? Just because you can truly appreciate it, it doesn't mean you'll automatically love it.... Just as an addendum. I've never watched many of your videos, but I've been catching up and really enjoying them. Especially when with Mark. Keep it up, I appreciate the effort 👍
Absolutely beautiful. It's lovely to see a different case shape from GS. It would be interesting to see a spring drive in that case shape. I agree with you about the bracelet. One that tapers does look more elegant. One that doesn't makes the watch feel chunky and bigger somehow. Of course the other movement that defines Grand seiko for me is the hi-beat. This can trace its origins back to the Swiss beating calibre 45.
Great video TGV! I honestly can't understand why modern watches can't get the water resistance higher‽ I wear my sarb every day and it's nice to not have to worry about water, I've forgotten to take it off on many occasions. Keep up the amazing work!!!!
YESSSSS 🙌🙌🙌 I am totally with you. It always seems to come back to the good old SARB, still unbeaten to this day. Enjoy it and thank you Scott. Best regards, TGV
I’m similar to you in that a Grand Seiko is in my future, but definitely want it to be in tandem with a trip to Japan. I’ve never been and would just love to go. A Tokyo Flash crazy digital and a Grand Seiko would be a must.
Beautiful watch. Loved that bespoke video introduction 👌👌👌 I went to my AD just this week. Got to see the Rikka hands on for the first time, after admiring from an online distance. It didn’t disappoint! However, I do think if I'm going to add a GS to the collection it would be almost criminal to not have one of those amazing Blossom dials 🥰
Fantastic intro, insightful context, great review... and I love the return to the white glove analysis. (I also miss the yellow notepaper duels). GS certainly does refinement though I'm not sold on this particular dial. Lovely piece nonetheless.
A lovely design, well-made. Just something missing for me, not sure what? an excellent review though and description. You’re a photography skills (or is it videography) are excellent T! Best regards Stuart
Excellent review of the Grand Seiko. Paused the video to read and learn a good bit about the Edo shogunate and Meiji Restoration; also made note of the book, "The Films of Akira Kurosawa." Beyond the wonderful timepiece reviews this channel has long been something of a finishing school for us harried and slightly rough-hewn casual viewers.
Fabulous video! I love the dial on the SBGK017 and that texture is incredible. I have noticed on GS watches with the newer or updated movements of the last couple of years they are quite pricey but I guess they are trying to recoup development costs. It makes my SBGE285 look quite economical in comparison (Spring Drive and titanium) but the movement in my watch does date back to 2006 so is a quite mature movement.
I had a similar experience when I was in my local AD last week. I almost pulled the trigger on a Skyflake a couple years ago, and would go check on it now and then. Went in, saw the SBGK017, and that was that.
I recently got a field master ( land turtle ) directly from Japan. On the warranty card there was a stamp where it was sold. When I looked it up it was the grand seiko studio as shown in stock footage in this video. And it seems that it has been regulated because the 4R35 inside is much accurate than the one in my baby Tuna.
Excellent Video, as always. How about exploring the different Grand Seiko product lines, it can be overwhelming? My favourite is the Grand Seiko Spring Drive SBGY003.
Grand seiko SBGY009 is the perfect spring drive in my opinion. Effervescent beauty, elegance 100m wr, hand wound charm, power reserve hidden at the back, sparkling ever Brilliant steel, exclusivity all in one. Worth a review if you can get your hand on one! It could be that one watch collection watch. Keep up the good work. Cheers !
Great video as always. Working for a Japanese manufacturer, I had to chuckle a bit at the Godzilla figurine and footage. I sometimes wear an awesome Van Gough inspired t-shirt that displays Godzilla destroying the town in "Starry night" while also wearing a Seiko Monster lol. Someone asked why I wear it. I simply answered that I love monster movies and art. I like Van Gogh becouse of the texture and thick paint. I can almost see the paintings being painted in reverse. Also have a few other parody art tees that I wear . I did have a Mission Impossible shirt that had my face with safety glasses on in place of Tom Cruise sunglasses 😎, she stole it and wears it sometimes 🤣
Excellent video again TGV. Did you dee the video Grand Seiko posted about a week ago presenting their new workshop featuring jaw droping technologies? Amd also in that video they presented a new tourbillon.
I love the historical shots in your videos cause it makes me realize that 100 years ago and today, the only difference really is brighter lights on the buildings. Whats 100 years from now going to bring?
Love the shot of the understated elegance of the 017 with the Mission Impossible down in the corner - it speaks volumes of your true watch enthusiasm (oh, and only a true film enthusiast would include Takeshi Kitano in the intro 👈 ). Keep it up, T 👍
Thank you so much TGV for sharing your thoughts on such a beautiful timepiece!! This watch attracts attention and is conservative at the same time making it “pure class!” Stay healthy and well as always! (Nick L) ❤❤❤🦖🦖🦖👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Nice vid mate. I do like your taking time to do a historical overview. My bent is towards dive and dive style watches, but this beauty looks amazing and I so need one. What makes this watch resonate with me is that it reminds me of my manual wind mechanical Hamilton that was issued to me whilst in the military which I sadly lost many years ago. i now need to sell one my kidneys to afford one 👍

Great video and well-balanced as always, TGV. In addition to “Seiko” on the dial serving as a shibboleth of sorts, the parent Seiko has shot themselves in the foot by diluting the differentiation between Seiko and GS. Putting spring drive movements in Seikos has not helped GS, nor has Seiko’s upmarket positioning which is further muddying the waters. This watch is beautiful on the screen and I’m sure it’s terrific in-hand. I just think Seiko is making both tactical and strategic errors that is preventing GS from getting the recognition and respect it deserves.
Thank you, very informative video, great editing and introduction. The GS is on my wish list, I agree about the water resistant, could do with upping to 50m minimum. Love the strap but yes could do with tapering. Interesting about the dial/parallax feature!

While other reviewers seem to be going after market share TGV keeps it honest and pure - must be difficult to justify keeping going considering how much has changed in the watch space but we hope you do TGV
Very nice brotha even though even though its no Grand Seiko but the Seiko tuna Marine master with the Legendary 7C46 movement is my favorite Seiko ever made. Excellent video pizan 🇮🇹
If I can ever afford a luxury watch, Grand Seiko would be my first acquisition. No doubt. Thank you as always for the thorough review and history lesson.
Ya I agree. I got a Seiko cocktail 🍸 but if I ever had the privilege of spending big money, I'd go straight to the Grand Seikos
i hope you guys can afford one soon 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I'm working towards either an "entry" Grand Seiko quartz or a nice Longines at a similar price for my first and only "luxury" watch - going to take a couple of years!
Good call, just make sure to never buy new. Generally GS can be found at about half of retail on the secondary market. Deals to be had everywhere.
@@Explorer40mm Thanks for the advice

Class personified
Obviously GS put a great deal of thought into this watch. And the execution, as always with GS, is flawless. Well done TGV!
Absolutely flawless.
Well, except for the no lume, non tapered bracelet, no micro adjustment and 30m WR all for ten grand.
Their fit and finish is quite simply amazing.
Flies under the Radar.. Love it!
Tristano, you've outdone yourself! This is simply an amazing video! You've turned a premiere watch brand into a historical narrative on Japanese watch culture! Even the intro of this video and the classical piece was exceptional. Well done!!!
Bis....bis!
Encore!
Was fortunate enough to visit the Seiko museum in Ginza recently. It was a great experience that showcased Seiko’s testament to precision and quality.
As always, informative, entertaining, and inspiring. That case shape alone is enough to sell the watch, but that dial is a treat. Thank you for such a top-notch presentation! All the best-
A fair, wel made, good mix of history and present, review. You are a great storyteller, please keep up the good work.
I'm not sure anyone can compete when these guys are at their best
Always appreciate the effort you put into your videos TGV.

love the Ran movie reference 😂 excellent film but it was funny seeing it in this context
Great intro, fantastic cinematics, informative narration, and a really beautiful watch. Well done, TGV!
Thank you fratello!
I hope all is well, my best to you this memorial weekend.
O&U!

As always, thank you for the time and effort of each video TGV!

Outstanding Review the production quality of this video is second to none 👏
I totally agree...exceptional quality!

Only about two minutes in but have to comment already ... Superb editing TGV! Beautiful work.
A wonderful review of a beautiful watch. Fantastic editing work, as usual. Thank you for this!!!!
Professor TGV, that was a masterclass on GS. Thank you.

super awesome video, as always, congrats Tristano and CIAO!

GS is absolutely knocking it out of the park, amazing brand that is only going to get more popular
Every time your intro is amazing!
Such a well researched and presented review.
Another lovely Grand Seiko. I could see wearing this for my daily watch.
The master of intros strikes again. Oh and the watch is also quite special. 😁
Top video as always TGV 👏🏻 🦖
Thank you so much for this video. This watch is already on my list for 2024 Christmas
I agree with you in the taper. That’s the one issue I have with my Hamilton Jazzmaster.
Got to mention the intro! Awesome
Fact!
Fabulous video! I love the dial on the SBGK017 and that texture is incredible. It makes my SBGE285 look quite economical in comparison (Spring Drive and titanium) but the movement in my watch does date back to 2006 so is a quite mature movement.
Excellent video per usual TGV. I'm saving for a SBGN027 currently and this video bumped up my excitement.
I had a similar experience when I was in my local AD last week. I almost pulled the trigger on a Skyflake a couple years ago, and would go check on it now and then. Went in, saw the SBGK017, and that was that.

Must have been from before GS were spun off from Seiko as their own company. Congratulations!
I expect Seiko 5 chronograph in near future...a new game changer from Seiko...great content as always.
Amazing video once again. This caseshape is killer.
I do love your in-depth reviews 👊
Always love your content🧡
Very nice one TGV. I'm a big GS fan. Excellent review as always!
Great video, like always!!! Thank you TGV 🙏
Hi TGV
Quite stunning. And finally GS placed the power reserve in the right spot😊
Keep up the good work👍
Excellent Video, as always.
How about exploring the different Grand Seiko product lines, it can be overwhelming?
My favourite is the Grand Seiko Spring Drive SBGY003.
Another epic opening and superb editing! The face on that GS looks amazing and great to see coverage on this watch. Is that Hugo's cousin??
Seriously wonderful. Might the make the shortlist for the GS you're planning for your eventual Japan visit?
Loved the video TGV. Even my wife watched it. Would love to see a review of the mighty SBGE248G. The two tone sub and gmt killer. Best, Dom.
Cheers !
Oooooffff, the SBGY009 is pure beauty. Good taste!

Fab history professor!🎉
Wonderful review!....I’m so glad to see another manual winder....can these be making a come back?!
cool watch....and dig your Lone Wolf cub vids....

I automatically just clicked the like button before watching any of the video. TGV has never produced a bad one.
🙌🙌🙌 You are awesome, thank you my friend.
Best regards,
TGV
TGV I bought a Carl Fredrick wallet based on your recommendation! Loving it! Pure class!
I love your videos! Great content! Keep it up!
Great presentation and most excellent history lesson. Thank you TGV. 🥃🥃🥃
Another great video - love the history of the brand! Thanks
8.30am, bank holiday. Dogs still sleeping. Espresso in hand. TGV watch review on the phone. Perfect start to the day 👌🏽
Nice vid mate. I do like your taking time to do a historical overview. My bent is towards dive and dive style watches, but this beauty looks amazing and I so need one. What makes this watch resonate with me is that it reminds me of my manual wind mechanical Hamilton that was issued to me whilst in the military which I sadly lost many years ago. i now need to sell one my kidneys to afford one 👍
mesmerizing ..beautifully executed
Thanks for the review TGV. This is a model I hadn't seen reviewed elsewhere. I picked up on your comment that the teeth of the geartrain are hand polished. That's the type of attention to detail that doesn't surprise me from Grand Seiko. I still aspire to own a GS at some point but feel that dream is slipping further away with their increasing asking prices.
Consider buying second hand. There are some great offerings and you may be closer to your dream than you think.

Great review 👍
Grand Seiko and Shin Godzilla, can't go wrong!
Great video my friend. I love Seiko because of their Dials and performance but there is so much to love about that watch company lol
Great video and well-balanced as always, TGV. In addition to “Seiko” on the dial serving as a shibboleth of sorts, the parent Seiko has shot themselves in the foot by diluting the differentiation between Seiko and GS. Spectacular intro! May I know what soundtrack is? Thanks
Thank you, very informative video, great editing and introduction. The GS is on my wish list, I agree about the water resistant, could do with upping to 50m minimum.
Love the strap but yes could do with tapering.
Interesting about the dial/parallax feature!
I wasn't too thrilled with the face of this GS, but it grew on me during your video, and also your use of the Voice (Dune reference) really did the trick. Now I must buy all the GS. How many mortgages on a house is too many?
Very attractive case,. Nice piece thanks!
I like this way of watch review video.
Grand Seiko! My latest was the GMT SBGE285 Mist flake dial, which would make a very nice review subject.
Beautiful watch!
That is a gorgeous piece
