I grew up with 90's CGI but I honestly don't miss it much (remember that really weird MK1 cartoon? Anyway) I do miss pre-rendered backgrounds though, nowadays it would look super amazing, a shame after PS2 no one used it anymore

Core desing, we want you back. I watch the tb anniversary edition for psp, and see that no one capture the real escense of lara and the atmosphere from the tombs ; the ilumination, ambient, music, and the gameplay, all was perfect.

I agree wholeheartedly. such an awesome design team. I think they spent a lot of money on Angel of Darkness so they have to shut down when it did not do so well. It sold pretty well though. I am not sure completely why they shut down. But they were phenomenal on the PS1. Ninja is a fun game, and I kind of enjoyed Deathtrap Dungeon and Fighting Force.

Her aristocratic elements were her worst elements. Lara had a lot more to offer than 'class' (a word which is not entirely disentangled from 'social class'). I agree, it sucks that we don't make the games here in Derby any more, but that's how globalisation works. We don't make our own steal. We don't make most of our own media representations. It's none of the companies faults. The music in the new game is great, though I admit that there is no need for the lack of signature music, especially the classic theme. Lara is my favourite video game character, but she was also incredibly flawed. Her personality often didn't amount to more than cheesy one liners, her wealth was used to make her seem cool (as though rich people are better than poor people), she was too superhuman, and she wasn't a serious archaeologist. These are all things that have been worked on for the new games. I don't know exactly what you think is missing?

I always loved this intro and wish it had made it into the game properly. It shows so much of Laras character without any need for action or dialogue or an over-flattering camera angle. All we need here is a magnificent set piece, some colorful and interesting environments and an effortlessly beautiful and capable Lara to make us want to explore whatever mysteries are about to unfold before us 😊❤️🔥

UNCHARTED, HORIZON DAWN, RISE OF THE TR... the gameplays are all the same.. this type of TR makes you feel like an adventurer and a real ARCHEOLOGIST.. the new ones are just plain like hack and slash thing... too bad... and PS: i prefer the old LARA compared to the new one...

There is a very similar scene in Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, the second Angelina Jolie movie, where she decodes the Orb aboard that Chinese family's houseboat and sees images leading her to Africa. It would appear this cutscene may have served for the inspiration for that scene.

This footage was probably promotional video made for the press, and I think it is from 1995 or older. You can see images of this footage in the November 1995 issue of Die Hard Game Fan magazine.
Even though this has what would be considered "bad cgi" by today's standards, it still feels incredibly immersive, like i almost feel like I'm in that hotel room with Lara. This is also dripping with atmosphere, it's such a shame it was cut.

For some reason, I think something pertaining to the classic TR games is going to be announced. They've been posting a couple of these videos from the past games and plus they said they had some exciting TR news for us at E3. It is the 20th anniversary after all so something is definitely coming.
To be honest I'd really like to see them take another crack at something like Angel of Darkness again, say what you want about the gameplay and how glitchy and unfinished it was but Angel of Darkness had a great atmosphere and world and it sucks that they'll never revisit the original continuity and that kind of world ever again.
Fitrockious S Lara being realistic was never the intention anyway and thats fine imo, the game had a sense of humor, was very silly and had its own charme also the story and Laras character arent as flat as many people think.
This came out only a year after Toy Story, and despite only having a small team of people to work on the fmv's, compared to the huge team Toy Story had. It general looks pretty good.
Seeing this in 2024 after the remaster release.

The deleted FMV was cool. I replayed all the PS1 games a few years back, tough controls to get used to again, but still had it's fun moments.

I'll bet this was extremely fascinating back then. While I was born in 2002 and grew up with stuff like COD and sonic colors, this is still pretty interesting.

This footage was probably promotional video made for the press, and I think it is from 1995 or older. You can see images of this footage in the November 1995 issue of Die Hard Game Fan magazine.

Even though this has what would be considered "bad cgi" by today's standards, it still feels incredibly immersive, like i almost feel like I'm in that hotel room with Lara. This is also dripping with atmosphere, it's such a shame it was cut.

No, he just has an opinion. Also, let's be honest there is no way the "cartoonish" Tomb Raider style, looks better - mainly because a "cartoonish" style was not what they were ever aiming for, they were always aiming for realistic graphics but were clearly limited by the technology of the time.
For some reason, I think something pertaining to the classic TR games is going to be announced. They've been posting a couple of these videos from the past games and plus they said they had some exciting TR news for us at E3. It is the 20th anniversary after all so something is definitely coming.
To be honest I'd really like to see them take another crack at something like Angel of Darkness again, say what you want about the gameplay and how glitchy and unfinished it was but Angel of Darkness had a great atmosphere and world and it sucks that they'll never revisit the original continuity and that kind of world ever again.
Fitrockious S Lara being realistic was never the intention anyway and thats fine imo, the game had a sense of humor, was very silly and had its own charme also the story and Laras character arent as flat as many people think.

This came out only a year after Toy Story, and despite only having a small team of people to work on the fmv's, compared to the huge team Toy Story had. It general looks pretty good.
