  • Constructing a laptop case for my HP laptop, I made some rough plans on Google Sketchup and started constructing. The whole thing is made out of Cherry with inlayed maple and walnut, on the inside is a felt lining that protects the laptop from any scratches.

    Nice! I liked the look of the router stops at the lock... Made an interesting break from the rest of the border.

    Nice effort but you have some things to learn about safety and correctly milling lumber as well as making inlays that fit. Keep at it!

    You should have used cherry triangles on the inside to contrast with maple spikes. And maybe add a handle. Other than that it's a great looking thing. God job.

    It was a little bit painfull, when I saw U wasted around or a little bit more than 1/3 of the cherry wood. Did U mind about any soft protecting layer inside or outside? (Every high quality notebook case has a thick soft layer that protects the notebook when it falls down. So I mean something else than that thin, soft touch layer that U used.)
    The cover looks very nice!

    Also please roll up those sleeves. If the table saw grabs them you won't have a hand very long. I'm sure your tired of hearing all this about being safe. Just take it from a 60 yr old with all his parts still. Safety is the first thing you put on when you enter your shop. If we didn't care we wouldn't say anything to you. Keep doing and building. You have talent. Good luck my friend.

    Line the insides with foam please. Even though the laptop won't rattle with the snug fit, It's better to redesign it and put cloth/foam/felt lining inside to prevent the anodized aluminum of MacBook or plastic of the Windows PCs be scratched and damaged.

    Nice work ! I do agree with the other guys comment. On shop safety needing. Some drastic improvements i worked over 20 years in Commercial Woodworking both with my tools and in Management Woodworking in my life has been more than a way to provide for my family it was also a passion and a hobby most of my close freinds are somehow involved in it somehow and. Unfortunately after many accidents that happened. The victims a;ways said the same things to me. I never thought that it would happen to me and. It happened so fast. I couldnt beleive that. It just hapened and it took it a few seconds for the reality and the pain in your video it looked like you. Were reaching over the tablesaw blade way too close. Especially in long sleeves and during the routing i didnt see face shields or eye protection. One time i had to go to a hospital to drive home a coworker that. Had metal shavings get shot so hard into his eyes That the eye doctor. Spent several hours removing them with a very tiny pair of tweezers one at a time the entire fiasco did winf up costing the guy. Some permanent vision loss and a lot of Money both in hospital bills and loss of pay from not being able to drive to work for a while ? Of course I’m not perfect myself but i do pride myself on not having a shop injury thats required me to take a extended leave of absence for surgery or long recoveries i have performed a “ Chiselectomy on my own hands by doing my chiseling in a ridiculously stupid manner that did require stitches In order for it to be able to heal properly otherwise i like your channel and i am looking foward to more of your projects and tutorials in the beginning of this video i saw a ouch box planer in the background on a shelf and i was laughing to myself. That after your glue up i was like thats never going to fit in that planer then of course your next step revealed the big planer you actually used i thought to myself the jokes on me this guy knew what he had in the shop i did get a kick out of the old routers you were using my Father had the same model years ago. And i always wished he had passed them down to me with so many of his other woodworking and Vintage Automotive tools as vintage cars are another hobby of. Mine as was his

    Ear muffs, glasses, dust mask/respirator as standard.. and a push stick for the table saw..

    Nice work! You are skilled enough to deserve a few tool upgrades, I would suggest. Not to mention - save your ears! - take it from someone who wears hearing aids! Upgrade your table saw and or fence, and try a proper mallet on your chisel, not a hammer.

      Yes. So important. I used this super loud leaf blower in the rain for about 3 or 4 hours and my ears hurt for years. Luckily they stopped hurting after a couple of years. I couldn't even go to a coffee shop for music. Everything hurt all the time. I went to the doctor and he said it was impossible, but it was certainly possible--I lived it.

    • @davidkennedy7630

      Alex Reid my dad was a professional woodwork for over twenty years and I have never seen a saw with a guard or splitter installed.. The first thing he did was take it off and throw it out ;)

    • @alexreid4131
      @alexreid4131 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      David Kennedy Yeah. In my opinion that's not a smart move and not good advice to pass to the next generation but of course it's up to you what legacy you want to leave.

    • @davidkennedy7630
      @davidkennedy7630 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Alex Reid google table saw images. The pictures of the brand new ones for sale always have the splitter... The ones actually in use by woodworkers never have them.

    • @alexreid4131
      @alexreid4131 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      David Kennedy Thanks for the info but I am already aware of that. Doesn't make it best practice from a safety standpoint of course.

    beautiful work. really well done. but why would i use this? it doubles the weight of my laptop and adds about 50% to the size. a laptop is meant to be used. not stored in a wooden box. this box has ZERO practical value.
