  • Here's a cool wooden storage case I made as a gift. Its made from white oak with purple heart accents. I really like the color combination between the 2 species of wood.

    Thank you for the video, I love the fact that you are working out of an ordinary space like the vast majority of those of us who are watching. To me your shop is very inspirational. Have a great day and what an awesome job.

    2 years on and its still a great video.. Have a box to bjuild tomorrow for some new wood turning chisels so just looking for inspiration. this project however was really interesting to watch, including the out takes lol. My shop ( shed in the UK) is 6' by 5' so I feel your pain, but tidy as you go actually works well. Thanks for sharing...

    Pretty wild inlay technique. Nice box. Idea: make your next spline jig wider, and add in a movable spacer (a simple nice-ly squared hunk of scrap wood would probably suffice) to set the distance of cut from the edge - makes for a more reusable jig because you can vary the spacing.

    • @homebuiltshop
      @homebuiltshop  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jeff Mazur thanks. Your way sounds better. I was just going to move the fence to adjust the spacing. It would slice up the bottom but I can always make another. 👍

    Hey Jeff, awesome video! I plan to build a similar box, but bigger. It would be a case for an electric guitar. I wanna make it waterproof using marine plywood, but i don't know how to properly finish it to make it waterproof and how to seal the opening where the box halves come together (maybe using some rubber). Any tips?
    Cheers from Brazil.

    • @homebuiltshop
      @homebuiltshop  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +hatedark1 will it actually be out in the elements and need to be totally waterproof? You could use an outdoor rated finish, waterproof glue, and maybe rout a channel on each side of the lid to accept a rubber seal.

    • @DrLIRAAAAAAA
      @DrLIRAAAAAAA 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It wouldn't be out at all times, i just want to make sure it is safe in case i get caught in an unexpected rain.
      So, it doesn't need to be totally waterproof, just water resistant. Thanks for the reply!

    • @homebuiltshop
      @homebuiltshop  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +hatedark1 I think a good waterproof clear on the outside and some kind of lip to seal it up would be fine for most conditions.

    • @DrLIRAAAAAAA
      @DrLIRAAAAAAA 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great. So, no need to use marine plywood?

    • @homebuiltshop
      @homebuiltshop  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't see it necessary. If you don't plan on soaking it in water, except for a splash of rain at times, I would think regular ply would be fine. I've had regular plastic guitar cases get a little rained on and never had an issue. Of course, you know your weather a lot more than I do, if you can really see it getting soaked at times, you might consider the marine ply. If it was me, I'd be fine with regular good quality plywood.

    Great job! but for my opinion. The handle is quite too high.
    Reduce the high of the hadle and fillet the edges.
    Sharp Edges might cause user injury.
