One thing I always lament about FromSoftware bosses is that you don't get to see all the amazing detail the team poured into making their character models, once you've defeated them. Being able to look at your enemies up close, with the mask mechanic, is a really cool way to get more appreciation for your assets. I hope they do a great job with them and get the recognition they deserve because this looks amazing, so far!

For everyone saying there isn't lock on, there is. The difference is the character you control doesn't automatically turn to face the enemy. The camera follows the enemy, but only to the point of keeping them on screen, and isn't as concerned with keeping the enemy or your character locked to a specific distance or angle. Personally, I like it. It's more detached from a traditional "you play from the main character's perspective" and rather it's trying to give a sense that you're watching a fight happen without rapidly spinning the camera around with every tiny movement either character makes. Requires a change of mindset, which many gamers lack if they always play the same types of games. Not saying it's perfect though, the animation is flashy but not as intuitive as it could be. My best example is the short scene from the trailer at 6:07 when the character darts left and then right. He doesn't bother pushing off the ground to move back and forth, and instead his character model simply rotates as it receives input from the person playing. Ironically, Ubisoft got that right in AC Unity, but it's rare to find in games.

good game and animation. but the environment is always dark and feels no life. always rainy, cloudy, and wet.. no bright sunshine? no clear sky? this is sad... :(

Game looks great overall. I also don't usually mind motion blur in modern games but this implementation is some of the worst I've seen in awhile. Motion blur should only ever be applied to objects, never the camera

nice game... i am ready to give them my money.. but who'ever is playing sucks... i am worried its like the old jade empire.. each stance only has the same move and u swap from each back and forth.. if its jibber jabber like that then no... plz give us a lot of moves.. the player here makes the fighting look way to one dimensional... the second dude gives me way more hope
There is lock on, it's just the camera is more fluid, with the character switching back and forth from the left side of the screen to the right. I like it, but I agree it could be distracting for someone who plays only certain types of games.
Games like these typically don't have an online multiplayer but I REALLY hope some how they pull it off or SOME DAY it happens. Where you can test your own perception in battle against other players! We need a online multiplayer experience for games like these where you can fight or CO-OP with each other without losing much of the games designs, mechanics, etc. I think its time to take that next step beyond just Story involved games like these. I know its possible I just don't understand why it hasn't been done yet?? All -in All...I can't wait for this game!! I hope its released this year. and I really hope between Ghost of Tsushima, Seikro Shadows Die Twice, and Where Winds Meet - really cultivates the return of TENCHU!! WE NEED A NEW TENCHU EXPERIENCE....Tenchu is LITERALLY the FATHER of these games! Rikimaru, Ayame, Onikage and more have UNFINISHED STORIES!
So many people have it backwards, whole Japanese culture originated from China. Architecture, martial arts, language. Japan, however, has been way more successful with introducing their culture to the world, thanks to modern entertainment like manga, anime and some very influential cinema works. IMO, Japanese culture is easily appreciated because of the combination of simplicity and elegance. Chinese culture however, while vast in scope, takes itself too seriously in favor of indoctrination rather than entertainment. Hopefully with more and more traditional culture elements fused with modern entertainment, it will gain an independent identity from the Japanese as it ever had been.
While I agree this gameplay mechanics definitely took inspiration from the success of Sekiro, it is hard to argue fast sword clashing is unique to that game or Japanese culture for that matter. In fact, it assembled more to classic Chinese Wuxia films. The poise is softer and movement flows more gracefully.
Why do all these games like this and where winds meet the enemies just stand around but in Nioh they see you they attack you!!! The trailer looks crazy tho
its like this: Level design reminds me of Nioh, therefore worst than dark souls. Combat looks cool, perhaps a bit repetitive, although seems though and thats always a plus. Other than that the visuals are out standing. Therefore, I will wait for reviews
Probably based off what type of game you assume they are trying to make, but I don't think this is supposed to be a traditional 3rd person fighting game. Also, gamers grow too stagnant and biased. If you care, do it yourself.

the white rope guy is the MC, so no character creation. It is meant to be an original story.
