Oh my! I love this! I just told my daughter yesterday how I love to just watch my paints dry. I noticed that when I was "playing" yesterday I wasn't really happy with it. I went through about three pieces of my Bee paper. Then relaxed and a lovely simple painting "appeared".
    Thank you so much!!!

I just love your philosophy of painting - let accidents happen and then learn what to do and what not to do next time! I live by this philosophy! lol I often embrace what comes from my accidents in my paintings. It's unexpected and often beautiful in its own way. This is the main reason I love watercolors. You don't have total control and I love to see what comes from that. You are an awesome instructor and I love your paintings and your videos. I have learned soooo much!

I'm a detailed artist that needs to become more free in my love for artwork. You have a great philosophy that I need to remind myself...."Have fun" creating and stop being our own worst critic. You're such a good inspirational teacher. I have been using the acrylic paints and various colored pencil mediums for a few years now. I have only started with watercolors the last year, and find watercolor paints so challenging for my backgrounds. This was a lesson for myself to just go for it and let the watercolor paint show me what I can learn to achieve my goals.Thank you from Ursula.

You have enabled me to just play with my paints and I am learning so much! I sure make mistakes but I do try to remember what I did. I have seen the difference of paper too. Wow, is there a difference. Thanks so much for helping me learn and to play.

It looked like a litle cake standing before making the tree that was what I liked in watercolor when you put water to the paint is magical one can see things in the paint as I miss it

when you talk about our inner artist needing to feel safe to come out I think that is so true. I am so hard on her, and I negate her and doubt her and as long as I do that she won't come out :-)

thanks Angela, love this lesson, grateful for any warm up ideas as I really need them, as for good watercolor paper in Europe, the 2 favorites that I love using (beside Arches) are Saunders & waterford,, and Fabriano artistico, both are great paper. Right now I am trying the Millford paper and so far I like it very much, it is a very forgiving paper, it is easy to make adjustments and lyft up color from this paper.

Angela I got my nose a little too close to the paintings at The Seattle Art Museum, and security came😂. I love this technique. It would be fun to do several of these at a time to finish later. I tried a new technique yesterday (negative painting) and pretty much overdid it, and the colors ended up dull and not vibrant. Watercolor is definitely a challenge, but when you do get that gorgeous transparency it is so worth it. I just watched how you finished this and it loved it!

Here in Germany Hahnemühle is the go-to company for watercolour paper. However, we have been getting paper from Italy, France and other countries a lot also. I cannot actually remember seeing any/many brands from the UK even though they seem to have a very long history aswell. However, I have not always been into watercolours that much until my father passed and passed the passion on to me. So I am not versed on the history of watercolour paper here in Germany too well although I am quite a paper nerd.
I have always used Canson and Fabriano paper alongside my Hahnemühle papers. For a lot of my projects I use the house brand paper of the art supply stores here (Gerstaecker, Boesner). For instance I use their 160 lb watercolour papers in my plotter for cutting intricate writing and other designs because it's so sturdy and yet flexible, would you believe!
By the way, your paintings look wonderful! One thing you are definitely always teaching me is to never stop playing! Thank you for that, Angela! :-*

@@angelfehr Have you tried a bone folder? I have an old (traditional) one that is fairly flat. Don't get the silicone one crafters use a lot nowadays. It is a bit too bulky for this purpose. For me it works every time, no problem. So, hopefully, better luck for you next time.

I liked the violet. Do you ever stop to breath? You are so busy & still take time to share. You amaze me. Is it the northern climate? If so I need to move. I’m in the process of retiring. Yes it is a process. I’m a registered nurse. My husband found a post on face book that said something to the effect of being a nurse was like being in the mafia, once you were there you knew to much & they would never let you leave. I had to laugh. It was so true. So trying to retire has been a task for me. I suspect you will never retire. So I think I need to move to northern BC so I will never stop moving!

Hi, Angela, I'm in the UK and use Hahnemuhle, Fabriano and Canson papers all have vegan versions and Hahnemuhle has strong ecological codes. For a good 'practice' paper I use Arteza's pads. All good.

I'm glad you did what you enjoyed, and of course tastes differ, but to me that first one was a beautiful little landscape of a heather covered hill in golden late sunlight... And then you ruined it by putting those lines on it... :(
I do LOVE how loving you talk about watercolor painting.

      @@angelfehr
      True :)
And now I'm totally curious how that painting turned out! :D
But that to me is both why I long to paint with watercolor and why it's almost something frightening to me... I'm a control freak, you see, but at the same time I absolutely LOVE what watercolor can do, how it looks, knowing you can only "control" it by mostly letting it do it's own thing.
With drawing I'm into as much detail as I can get, so painting with watercolor is quite the opposite. Still I love it and long to be able to do it, to just... let go and HAVE FUN! Take those risks and experiment. Being able to put all my feelings and emotions into it, as I feel I want to. NEED to. Although I'm scared at the same time.
And I'm still so new to it that I myself would be over the moon if I could produce something even remotely like how beautiful that first painting of yours turned out... in the beginning, haha...
But really I meant to say with my first comment that I'm in awe of you being able to take the risk of "ruining it", by that gaining so much more possibilities of it becoming something even better. And if not... Well, at least you had FUN experimenting and expressing yourself! :D
That's what I hope to achieve some day too, to be able to. AND make beautiful paintings too of course!
Thank you for reacting to my reaction :)
And thank you for sharing your knowledge of and love for watercolor with all of us. Your enthousiasm is VERY contagious! :D
