Yes to both! But if I have to choose than little tutorials. I took your abstract class and had such a great time. It also really helped with brush control.

Hiya, nice to see you. Abstract watercolour would be my first choice, thank you for asking. But yes i love all your work ❤

I've been painting forever, but am always trying to learn better ways to do things and experiment. Personally I would lean towards techniques, because there's a good chance that I don't know it, totally forgot about it, or can still add finesse. My favorite tutorials focus more on how to achieve a certain look, vs how to paint a specific scene. You often cover things I already know in a way that's still helpful, like I know the difference between opaque and transparent watercolors but hadn't considered some of the reasons you might choose one or the other.

I steered away from opaque watercolours for a while, but they really do have their place, I now love to use them in portraits 😊

Thank you for this tip!! As a new beginner I'm trying to figure out this very question. I'll do the black line test! I vote for ABSTRACT!! 😊

So funny; while you were asking, I was thinking, "They're going to say Do Both!" Which first is of little consequence since you wouldn't be likely to wait a year to do the 2nd one, right? And techniques aren't based on some newest/greatest product release. So, my answer is, Do the One that You're Inspired to Do (because it will be better that way). Thanks for the series, and have a lovely evening. :o)

Any tutorials that you are inspired to produce will be great. As a beginner, I am attracted to short, fun exercise tutorials to discover brush strokes, watercolor behavior, loose vs. tighter techniques and color harmony and contrast. Right now, I am using only 3 Cotman colors: red, yellow, blue.

I would like to know more about how you draw the second illustration the one with the girl with the glasses. Did you paint the art work first or you use a pen? Which pen? How do you make your colour choice? Color palette?

Opaque colors make flatter washes easier because the thickness of the paint layer is not so critical. With transparent colors, there is more difference between thick paint (darker, saturated) and thin paint (lighter, lower chroma). You can make opaque pigments a little more transparent by adding acacia gum. Add a drop of ox gall to reduce viscosity and flatten out your transparent color washes a bit.

I would expect that any paint with smaller light to dark range will give smoother washes, and transparent colors tend to have more depth for obvious reasons

Hullo Carrie, I see a lot of people asking for abstract, I much prefer topical content. I am excited for you to create more simplistic imagery. Like the fox or even your line-art logo! I do enjoy watching you simplify creatures and hope you venture in that direction. I am enjoying the new DaVinci “Embrace Opacity” palette curated by Denise Soden! I am even thinking of creating an expanded color choice palette with other DaVinci watercolor paints that I already have!
Would you consider working with this palette from DaVinci? I am curious how other artists are creating with it!

Hi Carrie! So good to see you back. I loved your watercolor personalities course. I learned so much! As for preferences for future videos, I would like to see more topical tutorials. I'm not much of a fan of abstracts. Take care and keep on sending us great ideas!!

I tend to use transparent colours, but I dont know why since by the time I'm done the paint is so thick I might as well have just used opaque paint in the first place lol
