I am an occupational therapist/hand therapist. Regarding a question asked if you can use paraffin on open ulcers.... Please, do not use paraffin wax on open ulcers. This will make your ulcer worse. You can wear hospital gloves (or cut out a finger on a hospital glove if you only have one ulcer) to cover the ulcers and then dip in the wax. But please, don't dip uncovered ulcers in wax.

I agree Jennifer, I battle digital ulcers, I use paraffin on my hands but never with a open ulcer, now we have a patient in one of our support groups that uses paraffin on a open ulcer and it works for her! I totally agree with you, we always tell our patients to always consult with their doctors and to make sure they go to a doctor that specializes in Scleroderma! Thank you for your comment :)

@@debbiecharlton9749 Oh interesting. I still wouldn’t recommend doing that- concern for infection and the non-sterile wax contaminating a healing wound bed. It’s best to following instructions that come w the device (and your doctor) and it states not to use on open areas. There are so many other things to do that are safe and help ulcers. Although, I do understand how complex Scleroderma is and how individual treatment success varies with each person.
