      @@TimFreke1 if you say paganism is embedded in Christianity and bible stories I agree. The story of Isis and Osiris comes from Egyptian mythology and paganism May have arose from some of that mythology as well. I see these religions overlapping through the centuries but wasn't Egyptian the first? India is also very ancient but the philosophy did not cross over to the Pagan Mysteries. In any event I love this recording of yours. You also said something in an interview that was astounding which I recorded and listen to daily. Thank you very much for your teachings. I just wanted to correct you. If you trace back hermeticism and the Masonic orders it originated from ancient Egypt as manly Hall has written about extensively in his Masterpiece work Mysteries Through the Ages!

    Beautiful work here. Gnosticism is the way, the obvious path. The Kingdom of Heaven IS within.
    Christ is within, experience of Self, awareness, Mind.
    Nice work Timothy.👍☀️

      Gnosticism is based on two false premises. First, it espouses a dualism regarding spirit and matter. Gnostics assert that matter is inherently evil and spirit is good. As a result of this presupposition, Gnostics believe anything done in the body, even the grossest sin, has no meaning because real life exists in the spirit realm only.
      Second, Gnostics claim to possess an elevated knowledge, a “higher truth” known only to a certain few. Gnosticism comes from the Greek word gnosis which means “to know.” Gnostics claim to possess a higher knowledge, not from the Bible, but acquired on some mystical higher plane of existence. Gnostics see themselves as a privileged class elevated above everybody else by their higher, deeper knowledge of God.

    • @joefox9765
      @joefox9765 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@justinpridham7919 I don't buy that. Your first interpretation is not what Gnosticism is entirely about. Your second interpretation seems to pertain to the ego only. None of which is gnosis or gnosticism. Self study and reading the scriptures and what Tim Freke is sharing with us is realization that we are beyond the body and this is Christ's message as well. You are a bit confused

It requires expanding what “enemy” - there are evil mechanisms in place (over Centuries) of failed loving. You can’t love a narcissist or a pathogenic assault back to health either. If you hear a Christian say: "but Jesus said he was the only way to the Father", say to him that the Vedas say the same thing about Atman (higher self) & many more things including that Atman is "the narrow path", the "mustard seed", the "hidden treasure", the "light of the world", the "light in the darkness", the "father & son as one", the Logos (OM) etc. Atman is equivalent to the spirit in the Bible since Paul spoke of the 3 aspects of man - body, soul, & spirit. He called the spirit the "lord in heaven" which is a term the Vedas use to describe atman, agni, purusha, shiva (interchangeable terms for the Self). The cave metaphor is equivalent to the Egg of Brahma & the Monad or central point gradually differentiates itself through successive incarnations to eventually break through the auric egg to become 'twice born' & ascends to higher spheres.

    Thanks for the explanations! As a teenager, when I read the Bible I always felt Wisdom as feminine, the Holy Spirit as the matriarch, and knew there was far more to Magdalene's story than what was limited by those who chose what was included. I love discovering and hearing that others have discovered the links, overlaps, and reiterations between Christianity and various myths. Raised southern Baptist, I broke free of the literal beliefs once I saw the core of the message and that it is resonant in so many other religions/teachings, and I disliked the imbalance of leadership.

      From my understanding Sofia upset the balance of the cosmos. According to Gnostic myth she fell in love with the all knowing God but it was unrequited. She then self impregnated and created the demiurge. The demi urge was only half god and created matter for the first time. But this matter was flawed as it was created by a half god.
      So you could attribute this whole mess we call Earth as Sofias fault.
      I would approach her with caution.

    I like your reference to Christianity being about the soul's escape from the cave. Jesus was crucified on Golgotha- "the skull" (or Kranion in Greek). The Skull is the cave which houses our souls within our mortal bodies. At the base of the skull (where Christ was crucified) is a hole called the foramen magnum. The hole in the skull that Christ leaves his tomb and rises out from. Peace brother.

    Much love and respect to you, sir. Many ancient cultures - including ones not yet proven to have existed - appear to have had this wisdom, whether we learned this through physical evidence or oral tradition. They also speak of long cycles where humanity goes through these changes in perspective, and have done so many times going back much further in history than we thought.

    Barbara Theirings ( Sydney University ) scholarly book "Jesus, the man " is an in depth theory of hidden language within the Jewish Essene sect. Barbara's study of the Dead Sea scrolls nearly blew my feeble mind. Pieces started to fall into place. Even if the Crucifixion, was an elaborate hoax and the role of Mary Magdalene as the partner of Jesus( which to Christianity is heresy ) then we still most definitely should respect and give thanks to all of the whole early Christian church for giving us so much. Jesus and his disciples taught us many good things , such as equality, forgiveness, faith, and love. She also has an old u tube video.

    I have known both joy and grief,
    Neat or mixed together;
    Cold and heat I've known and found
    Both good drinking weather;
    Light and darkness I have known,
    Seldom doubting whether
    Tammuz would return again
    When he'd slipped his tether.
    I remember gaudy days
    When the year was springing;
    Tammuz, Gilgamesh, and I
    Clinking cups and singing,
    Till Innini sauntered by,
    Skimpy garments clinging
    To her hips and things like that-
    Tammuz left us, winging.
    So we welcomed Enkidu
    When he came to Erech;
    He was rough as hickory bark,
    Nothing of a cleric;
    But his taste in wine and ale,
    That was esoteric,
    And he used a drinking cup
    Which would strain a derrick.
    Khumbaba then felt our strength
    In the magic cedars,
    And we battled Anu's bull,
    Pride of heaven's breeders;
    Thrice we struck and once it fell,
    Drawing wolves for feeders,
    While we strode where drinking men
    Called for expert leaders.
    Tammuz must have joined us there,
    But he'd just got wedded
    And Innini, blast the wench!
    Hacked him as they bedded.
    Damn such honeymoons as that!
    Just the sort I've dreaded;
    For a drinking man is spoiled
    Once he is beheaded.
    So we waked him with a will,
    Ale and tear drops pooling,
    Then we drank to him for months
    While the year was cooling;
    But he came back with the grass:
    "Death was only fooling,"
    Tammuz told us, "Fill my cup;
    "I'm both dry and drooling."
    [John Myers Myers, Silverlock, 1949]

    Spot on. I believe Jesus was an historical figure. A wonderful and enlightened teacher. The gospels aren’t historic. The Bible isn’t historic. They are interpretive. Miracles in story-telling were a common and well-understood literary device of the times. As Moses’ ‘miracles’ were greater than the pagan gods, so Jesus’ ‘miracles’ made him greater than Moses. The essence boils down to ‘the kingdom of heaven is within you’. My essence is eternal spirit.

    • @tomesplin4130
      @tomesplin4130 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gee Ling, no ‘proof’ as such. I’ve formed my view of the likely existence of ‘Jesus’ on writings of other people particularly Paul, who claims to have spoken to Jesus’ brother James, as well as disciples Peter and John. In the end I don’t care whether he existed or not. Understanding that I am eternal spirit doesn’t depend on Jesus, Buddha, Mohammed or any other man. I can’t ‘prove’ this either

    I’m not sure I 100% agree with the translation of soul for psuche . I tend to think that psuche is another aspect of our existence which can be summed up in the four letter word life. But it’s different than biological life. It’s different than zoe. It’s different than pneumatic/spiritual life, but it doesn’t mean soul, as if it were a bodiless energy
    Again, I’m going to have to disagree. Pneuma does not mean Spirit. It has the connotation of that in terms of referring to the life of a man, but it is also wind and breath.

    Interesting, however stars are not holes they are manifestations of conscious beings known also variously as Watchers, angels, Companions, Titans, Giants. Persephone and Demeter are the same entity, she is the daughter of the creator in the realms of spirit and the mother Goddess in the material.
    The life, birth and death is gnostic allegory that the powers have interpreted literaly. The crucifiction sets the scene for the age of Pisces. The cross symbolises the crossroads a place for meeting transcendant entities and ressurection a common form being the Svastika a symbol of the great mother in vedic known as Lakshmi. The tomb is a cave and mother's womb from which the ressurected son will emerge after the Piscean age being early on the third day 2150 years. Perhaps most significant the Romans gambling for the clothes (mantle) of Yeshua, a symbol of a romance spiritual decline. The age of darkness (ignorance) that follows the crucifiction. The veil a curtain that is lifted revealing truth.

    Hey Timothy just wanted to say I really enjoy your work. I own the Jesus mysteries. But I've not read Jesus and the lost goddess. Looks very interesting. Ive came to the same conclusion as you have. That the Chruch ether altered the original teaching's or turned a mythic story. Changed it to taking it literally. In my view this was done because the chruch was the law and power. If they let people believe there was many paths not just one. They have no power of the people. I think during the inquisitions the Chruch new that other people had the Truth. And they labeled them heritics. It's clear you don't follow the dogmatic teachings of any of the abrahamic religions. But my question would be are you still spiritual in nature. Or do you not believe in anything after the death of the physical body. I don't follow Christianity dogmatic teachings ether and I agree on what you have written down. We know there's been many different gods and goddesses. So that's why I ask one could say well because of this fact it shows it's not real. Or one could say that it's ether not real or God is beyond man's comprehension. I know for fact I would love to set down have coffee and have good conversation with you. Very interesting intelligent man.

  • @theeconomicrevolutionist
    @theeconomicrevolutionist 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Per your explanation of your book The Jesus Mysteries, I am confused on an idea you express. Basically, if I am hearing correctly, your conclude that Jesus as described in the NT never existed as a human - it was just an idea. You treat it as a myth. Ok, no problem. However, in your development of that mythological idea, you use the OT story such as Joshua going into the promised land as history, again if i am hearing you correctly. So, I feel that you could be mixing and matching the stories of the OT and NT together to develop your idea that Jesus is just a myth and not history. Confusing.

    • @TimFreke1
      @TimFreke1  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For Gnostic Jews the story of Joshua is also an allegorical myth central to the Theraputae, a Jewish/Pagan Mystery School living in the desert outside Alexandria, who seem to be practising The Mysteries of Moses, which will become the Mystery of Jesus (Joshua) . Speaking as an historian I would say pretty much the whole of Jewish scripture should not be taken literally. It is national mythology not history.

    • @theeconomicrevolutionist
      @theeconomicrevolutionist 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TimFreke1 But then why do you use certain language in developing your idea, let's say, Jesus says "x number of words" and then you attach those words to the development of your idea is when I get confused. In another way to describe my question, if Jesus did not exist in the historical sense why even use those Biblical texts to develop your idea? If there is no fact to those words then your premise is faulty from the start. It is how you develop your idea and how it is communicated that is confusing to me because I don't when you are taking some literal and when you are taking something metaphorically from the Bible. Why use the Bible at all to develop your idea of unindividuality (sp?).
