Something cool, I'm actually part of one of the few infantry divisions that was allowed to wear the tanker, I am a member of the 45th infantry division reenactment group
I'm fortunate and yet unfortunate in that I have exactly one photo of my great grandfather in the 702nd Armored Battalion, B Company, in his uniform. He had the "2nd pattern" coveralls, armored triangle, and T/5 chevrons (90% sure, as that was what was in his shadow box), and just an M1 helmet liner standing in front of a tank with the name "THIS IS IT[ILLEGIBLE]" (possibly "ITALY"?) on it. It shows clearly what he probably wore in the warmer months, but doesn't show much else
There are less than half a dozen photos in existence of M1944 goggles in use by front line troops in WWII. Nearly all of them are in April/May 1945 with crews of late war US Tanks like the M24 Light Tank and M4A3E8 Medium Tank. Thus, they are not correct for nearly all WWII Vehicle crew impressions. Other far more correct options like Polaroid 1021 goggles and M1938 Resistals are widely available for those reenactors that do choose to wear goggles for their impression.
The M1 steel helmet would not fit over the tankers helmet unless the liner was removed, so it would be just a shell basically !! ... How have you got 600 original WWII photographs without infringing an copyright laws ?
The issue is there is a lot of stuff flying around at a reenactment. Dust dirt powder fouling spent brass blank tip slivers and the like. Good eye protection and real personal safety trumps impression every time. Same thing go's for ear plugs. Me? I ware Kroops goggles. Not made until 1946 but they are good protection and look ww2ey.
esquad 540 Sounds like you’re describing an actual battle, not a reenactment. It’s easy and possible to be completely safe and completely authentic for each and every event.
@@TankerCampaigner I'v been reenacting world war two for 40 years. I cant tell you how many times I came close to getting killed. I'v been shot with a wooden blank tip. Got shot in the head with a BFA off a MP40. Been tear gassed by a guy that swore it was a blue smoke grenade, It was C-S teargas. Driving a jeep hell bent for leather on a mount site and got "T" Boned by a Hund haft track and powder burnt by there flack 20. All most drowned in quick sand on Wendel Ford training site. Krouts found me before I went under. Pulled me out saved my life. Then captured me The swine's.
You can wear good ear plugs that can be worn under the recievers and no one will notice. For dust you could wear the M1 dust masks that were seen pre and early wore when by tankers in desert terrain. With the poloroids on top you'll be solid. The goggles issued today to tankers aren't much better than the m1944.

I have never seen a ww2 us tanker impression and may I just say this is amazing.
Being a ww2 tanker impression is probably the easiest one since you only have the helmet, jacket/shirt, pants and the boots

Is the M1938 similar to the Donut helmet in most aspects sans the donut? Or are there other differences
Not really. Only the crown and being a helmet is the same. Everything else is different to include soft ear flaps.

The original goggles would do ya just fine, either the Polaroid 1021s or the Resistols
