  • My review of two different reproduction WWII US M1938 Tanker helmets.
The helmets are from Quartermaster Inspector (QMI) at this link: qmi.be/uniform...
And What Price Glory (At The Front Sells the exact same helmets as well):

Yeah was gonna note: I think they've made some changes here and there on the WPG/ATF one. I bought one from ATF about 4-5 years ago. At some point the rivet on one of the "arms" sheared and I have the loose spring floating around somewhere. About a year or two ago I picked one up from WPG. They definitely seemed different to me, but I never got a chance to dig out the earlier one and compare it. I definitely remember noting that there was some differences in feel/weight and construction.
I'd do it now, but they're both in storage and about 7k miles away from me most of the year.
I may give a QMI one a shot. I'm not at all a regular or semi-regular tanker, but I do enjoy tankers, the impressions and figured doing some Ind. Tank Battalion impressions of some of the Tank Battalions attached to the 34th ID (my main GI impression) would be nice, and relevant. And from the histories of some of these battalions, they had some insane fighting while attached to the 34th or other ID's in the MTO (36th and 45th being popular in their various periods of attachment as well).
*If* I remember, I can send along comparisons and stuff on IG or whatever.
    But awesome video anyways!

I picked up a repro about a year ago. I've been progressively breaking it in, but just recently the fiberglass of the ear flap cracked (user error). For a realistic impression, would it be ideal for me to get a new one, or "field repair" my current one?

I’ve seen countless pieces of field gear and personal uniform items “field repaired”, however I’ve never seen tanker helmets “repaired” in any real noticeable way, but then again I’ve only ever handled a dozen original tanker helmets in my life. I’ve also never seen any evidence of “repaired” tanker helmets in original photos. If you can get the issue corrected and not really change the structure of the helmet or put anything on it that shouldn’t be on it, go for it. If not, I’d say you should consider getting a new helmet.

Foxholeprops makes the best m1938 tanker helmet I have ever seen, if you can get your hands on one.

sprprops1 I’ve never heard of them. I haven’t seen one of their helmets in person either to my knowledge. I’ll look into it.

Do you know where to get a strap for polaroid 1021 goggles

    • @TankerCampaigner

I've replaced the strap on many pairs of 1021 goggles now just using black elastic you can find at craft stores like Joann's, Hobby Lobby, Michaels, etc.

Nice video Adam. I purchased a WPG helmet last month and it’s a little different than yours. The snaps that go on the flap are correct and that leather piece that holds in the speaker is actually the same color as the helmet. Maybe they updated them? I can send you pics on IG or Snapchat if your interested in seeing them. One thing I can’t figure out is why is my speaker wire so long do I need to cut it to the appropriate length?

Brian The History Nerd Shoot me a DM on Instagram. I should have mentioned they probably have updated their helmets, as I got this one at least 2 years ago. I’d be interested to see what they have fixed and perhaps I can update the video.

Wpg has updated their helmets about 4 times since they started. The latest run is probably the worst yet. Elastic strap is terrible, leather is a funky green, snaps are cheap, no longer Rawlings marked.
