- This behind-the-scenes look at A350 XWB testing spotlights the next-generation jetliner's cold weather evaluations performed in Iqaluit, Canada -- where temperatures reached down to -28°C. The video clip includes comments from Flight Test Specialist Engineer Julie Mautin and Bernard Besinet, Flight Test Support Engineer.
The take off with the camara looking back is fantastic. It looks so cool how the exhaust picks up the snow on rotation! I love it!
CGI !
Both a350 and the 787 are beautiful aircrafts
But a350 better and safer
Ikr
Yes, Both powered by Rolls Royce
I want to see Rolls Royce Ultra fan it is so elegant
If I had the cheese between which one was the prettiest it would be the A350
I love this new composite A350 XWB. Can't wait to fly in one :)
Wingview is just amazing!
Finnair appreciates
last winter during january Lapland went down to -35 in some areas they could have gone there ! it was -42c one day
🙏much appreciate from Uganda🇺🇬
they are making sure my flight experience remauns safe..
love you guys and thank you..
I am an American who loves civil aviation. I admire Boeing aircraft greatly but I have an equal admiration for Airbus products. I don't see a need to bad-mouth either brand while favoring one. The A350-900 is beautiful. Good luck on your success. I hope to fly in one soon.
By the way, I am proud of French security forces for their quick and effective responses to the Paris terrorists of 2015-01-08.
Nous sommes Charlie Hebdo. Nous sommes tous Francais.
A fellow yank who is plane crazy, my preference has always been Boeing aircraft, but I have been fortunate to travel on the A-380 on a trip to Australia and that is one amazing aircraft. Haven't traveled on any other airbus widebody as of yet.
+Who's Your Daddy ?? Fair perspective from an aviation fan. But from a pilot's perspective, generally it is one-sided. This is because the Boeing and Airbus philosophy are opposing. Boeing puts the Pilots in a less inhibited position of authority over the airplane, while Airbus actually discourages manual flying. Airbus feels that automation is safer and more efficient. Airbus pilots do very little manual flying. Personally, I'll take a Boeing, (or any aircraft with a yoke) over an Airbus any day.
+Ryan Switzer That's not really true, speaking as a pilot on the 330 and now training on the 350, I can tell you that nowhere in the manuals do Airbus discourage manual flying, nor do they state that automation is safer and more more efficient, in fact one of the Airbus golden rules is to take over control if the automation is not working as planned. Airbus simply has a lot of protections in normal law which cannot be overridden (but then again they can be if you put it in alternate law). As for your point that Airbus pilots do very little manual flying....not wrong, but not correct. These days it doesn't matter what you fly, the autopilot comes on fairly quickly. If you want real flying, commercial aviation isn't the path you should be looking at. Even then it depends on the crew, I've seen some guys engage the autopilot after takeoff and others hand fly until 10,000 feet. Point is, modern aeroplanes are all computers, be it Boeing or Airbus. At the end of the day you can say one is better than the other, but then it will be purely a matter of opinion.
+tanshaomala very true on all points. Maybe it depends on the airline? I was told all that by a retired 320 captain at a southeast Asian carrier. I fly for an American 135 operation in that area, but cannot speak for the Airbus. We generally fly manually below 10k
👍👍👍
Iqaluit has a tradition as a testing place for new Airbus types. It is in the Arctic, but still has a long paved runway and other important support facilities for such endeavor to succeed.
The scene, the music, the aircraft at the end of the scene is awesome! Reminds me of Air Wolf.
I think this is one of the most beautifully shaped aircraft I have ever seen.
The superiority of Airbus is absolutely evident here, good luck to this aircraft
When everything is manufactured to perfection you don't need luck.
Yes, but my favorite aircraft is the Boeing 777 and looks what happens...!!!
jeff belli slack I think he was referring to the 777-200 that disappeared. MH370 I believe.
Right
jgstargazer But in extreme cold even the littlest problem can turn into a major problem . And when your that far away from the factory or even a major maintenance base, things can happen. I've worked in Canadian Arctic, I know.
J'adore l'anglais parlé par le français. Beau travail ! bravo à tous et merci pour le partage.
this plane is gorgeous
Best looking Jumbo Airbus ever built, can't wait to see one in the flesh.
Awesome landing in iced runway!
pretty jet, can't wait to fly it in FSX hahahaha
man why do i see you everywhere on youtube
@@muhammadaviation1732 dont know what your problem is
@@runsame Man just saying ur everywhere
thats not a bad thing
its just a fact
Beautiful aircraft
Can't wait for the first deliveration to Finnair of this beauty
B787 A350 r both beautiful with their cute winglets!
Its a extremely difficult job routine if you are a test pilot or flight test engineer who is performing his duties in some of the coldest & most unforgiving environment ....hats off to these guys ...and last but not the least to the aircraft mechanics who perform their duties without getting scared of killer cold climatic conditions...I am interested to become a Transport Canada Licensed Aircraft Mechanic in near future...but I need to first know the realism of actual job conditions that I may face if I am told to carry out my duties in one of the coldest & one of the most harsh regions of Canada.....This is the best example for any body who aspiring to become a aircraft mechanic & looks towards this job as just a luxury...& passion.....this video will definitely make you taste the bitter side of the job...and wake you up from your dreams.....guys be prepared to face the worst if you really have a passion to become a aircraft mechanic....
i have flown in the a350 several times with Finnair, plane is delightful, quiet and comfortable even in cattle class. Except one instance when Finnair left me stranded in Helsinky due to late takeoff from Bangkok and left me freeze in minus 20 degree in front of the airport, waiting for a bus to take me to the hotel in my Phuket outfit. Thumbs up. All forgotten, Finnair. I fly with you any time
I had no idea Iqaluit was such an important place for testing for airplane manufacturers. Such a remote place, kinda cool to see.
A350 is a fantastic aircraft
Iv'e been in the Aviation industrie for 25 years and at last, it's good to see some serious competition for Boeing. This can only be a good thing for all concerned including us plane nerds!
Why hasn't any other aircraft been serious competition for Boeing? A320 is a very strong competitor for 737, the A330 is a very successful aircraft to name a few.
***** I'm talking about the company, not aircraft!
I still don't get why you haven't considered Airbus as a serious competitor to Boeing until now,
***** Well maybe not at last! It has always been a serious competitor just never taken seriously by some!
barticus04
Those sled-dogs were cute.
Wow I love the boeing aircrafts but the a350 hands down is the best looking designed airplane today
777, 787, 747, all look better to me.
as a boeing fan the a350 is one of the most beautiful plane
+Tiny Rick A350 is alot prettier my friend trust me just gorgeous airframe
The wingflex and the winglet!
Look at that.....2 lovely winglets to hang a white flag from. Beautiful.
I love winter time ! Nothing like jumping on a aircraft in -15 below temperatures in a snowstorm watching it get deiced only to fly to a year round 70 to 80 degree destination. Makes life exciting and adventures
I LOVE this plane! It will definitely overtake the 787. It's going to be a high selling plane once it comes out.
Not really. As nice as this is, the 787 is far more advanced than this. This plane is only 30% composite, the 787 is about 60% made of composites enabling lighter weight, better fuel economy, quieter with larger windows. I also think that Boeing has a far larger network of support giving airlines a bigger reason to buy the 787.
bluesky
You have no idea what you are talking about.
The 787 has a composite content of 50% while the A350 53%. Btw the TrentXWB engines are the most advanced as well as the cockpit of the A350. The A350 also features larger windows.
techdefined No no man, it's the other way around, I looked to reconfirm. The Boeing has more composite material, and will have the largest windows in the civil aviation industry. As to the engines, I don't know the exact tech specs, but looking at some feature, the GE engine will produce less CO2 emissions, and put out more power per JetA used, though there may be more there that I haven't looked up about the RR which also look good.
bluesky
Sorry that's crap. The A350 has a content of 53% composites because it came after the 787. The 787 has large vertical windows but not as as wide as the A350 one's. That has to do how the sections are made and the stress on them. 787 is made of barrels of CFRP while the A350 of shells. The TrentXWB is the newest Rollce Royce triple spool engine and is by far the most efficient widebody engine in the world. Please do some research.
techdefined You're actually right man. My bad, I was looking at the tech tables and had them reversed. The A350 is 53% composite as opposed to 50% with 787. But that 3% isn't making a difference in performance since beyond that the planes are practically identical in performance, fuel usage, CO2 emission... I'll take either for free.
Welcome to my country. That wasn't a really cold day in Iqaluit. Take it down another 25 or 30 degrees, then it's cold. That kind of cold can distract you or sneak up on you. You have to keep it in mind constantly. If you don't, the price is body parts.
whats funny?
Funny?
Oh, we bitch about it too, believe me : )
deltavee2, you're right. The price is literally life & limb.
What a great Test for the aircraft, and could not be a better place to go ? Resolute
OMG I love this Arctic city!
Back in the long ago, the Concorde was parked at the airport in Fairbanks, Alaska for cold weather testing, and yeah, it was bitterly cold.
AirBus is a dream company/job/tech/people/team-work ... fantastic. I just LOVE the A340 (more than the 380) and I would just fancy the 350 ... and my world would be another without the 320 work-mule which has taken me everywhere in my job as a fisheries (biomath) researcher ... GO!GO!!GO!!!
One of the best looking planes out there. Also: Ecxellent work by Airbus: The flight test program went without a single hiccup so far.
beautiful airplane :)
Very cool video! Thanks for sharing. Airbus builds awesome airplanes. Love the A380.
It's funny watching the commentators fighting over here about Boeing and Airbus as if they personally know these companies and all the things that they do. Regardless of their business rivalary, I am sure they work very closely together on many aspects of aviation such as security, safety and even design. Both of them are great aviation companies that have taken human flight to the next level.
Amen to that
Beautiful bird!!!
amazing what humans can do when they put their minds together
lindo maravilhoso obra de arte da engenharia parabéns !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now that is a Beautiful aircraft!!!!
Well that would be an amazing job...
Flying around the world doing cool engineering stuff
This is so inspiring, I'd love to be a part of this
Chillin with the A350 XWB.
Wow the A350 so beautiful! A340 is my favorite plane but this A350 is toooo hot
beautiful design
That is one beautiful ass aircraft.
Some Impressive stuff :) !!!!
gotta admit though, it's one nice looking aircraft
This is the best Aircraft ever
Nice video!
:-)
Bring the plane to an airshow closest to Alexandria, VA! I want to see the most beautiful airplane in the world!
love this airplane!
Fantastic channel my friend!
i love this plane
lindo maravilhoso obra de arte da engearia parabéns !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A nova aeronave do momento que vai tirar de letra a crise de muitas rotas internacionais...
hehe, lol no failuire, almost no failuire 3:33
Fantastic. .
They should've talked to Buffalo Joe over in Yellow Knife NWT, now there's a man that knows a lot about cold weather and so do his crews!
Yes, but Joe's not keen on jets. He's on record as disliking even turbo-props.
Nicole K Yes, Joe is a piece of work. Most of his many troubles come from flying old piston engines in the cold. turbines, unlike turbans work much better in cold. BUT THEN, HE WOULD NOT HAVE "ICE PILOTS".
Why is it so satisfying to know that both countries speak French
The Ilyushin aircrafts are still superior when it comes to extreme weather and landings on tricky terrain. They may be old birds, but they are still the tanks of civil aviation. A pity most of them have been retired.
Marc Liljeqvist There are many reasons why they were retired. Too much thirsty, too much noisy.... And the safety records are also better in modern planes.
Marc Liljeqvist If the Ilyushin Russian built planes are still better or superior in extreme weather, find out many reasons why many of them were retired. Those old planes are nothing better compared to modern aircraft like the Boeing 787 and the Airbus A350 XWB.
+Icaller1915 They are better in extreme weather but that's about it
I wonder if pipe get froze while at extreme weather like snow
+Marc Liljeqvist Thing is most of us don't live in extreme weathers.
I also love the cold! Good nordic people!!
Should've done the test in saskatoon. we hit -36 this winter haha
Nice landing
I wanna say the airbus XWB is awesome they have business and can fly like 2 days in the air
-28. Ha. That's a normal winter day in the Canadian Prairies. I'd hope they test new a/c to the max limits of at least -40 to -50C. Cold Lake, AB would be a good spot as would Yellowknife, NWT
Awesome!
proudly Canadian
Perfect jet❤️
And 8 years later its flying everywhere
that wing do nice
I enjoy flying both Boeing and Airbus even though they reach comfort from two different perspectives.
Not a huge fan of airbus but damn that plane is beautiful
I wish they had detail models of this in fsx
Wow wow wow I love it
Its amazing
I love it :)
Wow they used the A350, and it's the new released aircraft for Airbus.
Jhantilloto ummmmmmm ya.............. that's the whole f'n point of the video.........
Yah I was Amazed when they f*cking used the a350 IN THE F*CKING ARTIC 🙄
THE PLANE BUTTERED
was that an unexpected visor deploy during takeoff?
Bellissimo!
Nice!!!
Hope one shows up in CYEG some day.
Out of curiosity, did you have to preheat the engines the next morning, or did you cold start them? Would seem like some major wear and tear on the engines with oil that cold.
Yes they both are compared to many others
Did the lady say "temperature"? Because I heard tempture repeatedly.
David Zhang Me 2
NICE
Nice plane
0:14 Please tell me that the nose is not invisible...
it's not
I'm pretty certain that the camera is angled from the centre and is facing along the port side front window of the cockpit. So it just looks like there's no nose.
"almost no errors" lol
Cool🤩
I love the cold too girl. I was born in the wrong place. It's hell on earth right now in the southern United States lol
+Kyle Rider Trust me, you definitely will not love Canadian winters after a few years...
+pguiver you were right I got caught in a blizzard in Pennsylvania the other day and it sucked lol. Was pretty though. We got thirty inches of snow
Kyle Rider Come to Canada and experience -46. I can almost promise you will think otherwise if you experience a proper Canadian Winter
too bad they didn't come to Toronto in January this year, we werw at -40 degrees celcius (-40 degrees farenheit)
I would like to stand out the same times with the A350.
Perfect help with likes
Sennheiser headsets, very nice. :)
Great
