The business hours of locally owned shops are so real. I still remember the fried chicken place that was on our way from the airbnb to Dotonbori. We walked by it the first time and it was opened but every subsequent day whenever we walked by it was closed. We left Osaka after a week without knowing how that fried chicken shop taste lol
These walks for me are fascinating, seeing how communities from foreign shores live and where they do their daily shopping 🛍 in Japan. I'm so glad your able to enjoy showing us these amazing places thanks, I just love these walks.
Shinichi, thank you for sharing your video and making a video in the hot weather, which isn’t easy for you! I really appreciate it! 🤗 I love these places where the locals lives and do their shopping and personally I prefer to stay in a hotel or airbnb here than staying in a big city because it is more relaxing!
Great video, very relaxing to watch. I think 30 minutes give or take is a perfect length. I do want to say that the brick work on the ground was very pretty.
What a beautiful day! It's always fun and informative taking a walk with you, Shinichi. As long or short as you want to make a video, I'm right there with you. 😊 👍
I used to work at a record store in isezaki-cho as a teen. Brought me back. Living vicariously thru you during covid as I dont have a Japanese passport, thank you! One thing id love for you and Satoshi to do is like your top 5 or 10 fav food spots in areas you go to- could be a nice way to visit specific spots you guys love! Oh and a baseball game food tour! Tokyo Dome for example has some of my fav food. Also, many Americans always ask me what baseball games there are like, you guys would do a good job covering
I've never been to Isezaki but I've seen an adaptation of it in a SEGA video game. It's a surprisingly accurate depiction (well, other than the random encounters in game).
I enjoy this. I would love to see more of an area that tourists do not go. Like this, a place where locals have what they need. Could you do a locals area and have an authentic lunch, take us grocery shopping in one of the nice independent stores, and maybe a shop or department store? No chains. Sounds like you don’t like them either as much. Except 7-11 sounds like it is worth plane fare to see! Lol. And Yokohama - are they the source of the musical instruments? If so that would be cool. Every area has their pride and fame for something they create!
Would love to see a longer walk, this kind of video is kind of therapeutic for me because I live in a country where we're not still allowed to go outside due to the pandemic. I kinda miss going outside and just talking a long walk! I might go visit Japan when things go back to normal!
I don't normally leave TH-cam comments but I really love this video! I love the pace at which you walk, and the things you show. Especially love the longer length!!
What a beautiful day. Perfect day for a lovely walk. Thanks for taking us along. I was curious about the Tree trunk at 16:11 it had a fence around it and signs and I wondered if it was just a really old tree and it was left there to remember it. I know Japanese people really care about preserving history and nature. It caught my eye, but maybe it's just a stump.😊
I'm from Yokosuka, and I used to go there pretty often to buy some CD's at Virgin Megastore in Marui (the PIA pachinko place in the video at the end). It is so sad to see so many places have turned into pachinko parlors. Now, I"m in Texas (semi-rural), and I watch pretty much all of your/Satoshi-san's videos. すごく懐かしくて嬉しいです。I don't mind longer videos at all!
I liked the length. I think I would've liked to see more of the Fujiya because I miss the one in Narita, which was my traditional last meal before heading home!
I love watching your TH-cam videos, they have helped us plan our trip to Japan in Aug. 2024. I will be visiting this street because my father took a picture of it in 1951 and it is when he decided to ask my Japanese Mother to marry him. Thanks so much for this video it was so perfect!😀👍
I always assumed that "shotengai" referred to indoor shopping streets that have a roof cover... now I know that it can also refer to these open air shopping streets as well! So nice to see that many of the shops are starting to do business again.
This was a cool look into a part of Yokohama I didn't know existed. I spent about a week in Yokohama but I guess I was mostly in the tourist part. This would had been a nice walk to find cheap stuff for souvenirs. It looks like that part of Yokohama is has northern Chinese with all the Sichuan and spicy food that is popular in that region. The last Chinese place looks like southern Chinese/Japanese food. I like all the Taiwanese restaurants there.
when i take a break from my work..... I de-stress by watching watching youtube and yes your clips just take me totally into another world... then i am back to reality... Ideal length for me is about 20 min. if there is anything longer, i will normally skip it or fast forward it... keep producing awesome videos !!!
Hi Shinichi, great video! Can't wait to get back to Tokyo so I can explore all of these places. I like the longer videos closer to 50 mins, the more you show us, the better.
We have to scan qr codes, sanitiser and social distancing, also face masks are mandatory in shops here @shinichi’s world also very interesting so many Chinese restaurants there and local shops there. Szechuan cuisine maybe and Taiwanese style dim sum, I am more used to Cantonese Chinese cuisine. Nice vlog 🤤😀
Love the shopping streets. Hand sanitation is everywhere in Norway, too. In fact, I get weirded out if there isn't any or if it's empty. o.O Been living in this pandemic too long...
So...you just gonna leave those Halloween Hi Chews there? HUH, lol. Loved it. Enjoy our walks together and this was a Beautiful day!! I adore all the different shotengai "gates". Also, that train scared the hell out of me, lol.
Bian Bian are Chinese hand cut noodles served either wet or dry; usually with chili oil (I learned all this on the Strictly Dumpling channel) There's a restaurant in Manhattan that makes them and they're to die for.. The spicy food you're seeing is simply Szehuan cuisine.
I love so much the walks! I love this local streets! I don't mind if the video is longer, Shinichi-san. I'll always do my best to support u guys. My love for u and Satoshi-san is real! Thanks for all your hard work! Please take care ❤️
Thank you for showing us around japan I was planning a trip to japan before the pandemic hit and now Australia's borders and international travel has been suspended so who knows when travel to japan will start again? so these videos help while we wait to reopen so I can one day visit in person
I can watch your videos ALL! DAY! I loved that trip you took to Miyajima so much it felt like a real date and it filled the hole in my heart. Thank you so much for your channel I love you human. :) xoxo
Love these walking videos of the shōtengai. I would prefer to live in a neighborhood like this where restaurants, shopping and entertainment are within close walking distance. I couldn't believe the cost of the melon, nearly 17 dollars for one🤯😳.
Say interesting all day everyday. If people don't like it... they don't like it. Do you. So will the people who said something about you saying interesting... it is perfectly fine to speak however you speak.
I love your videos like this one, so we can see the non-touristy areas of Japan. You asked if it was too long-definitely not. :) Will you ever go to Odawara? I have relatives there, and don’t know what it looks like.
love your walking videos :) Japan is so beautiful and you are a great host :) wouldnt vote for shorter videos. 30 minutes - 1h. or 45 Minutes? 30 Minutes flies by so fast :)
I like Japan... how do you go about a certain place... walk and walk and how do you know your way back to the place you originally start from. When you walk for quite a distance, how you know you can find your way back. You may get lost in unfamiliar place. When i was in Japan, I only got use to Ueno and Asakusa. Since am staying at Apa hotel Ueno. Please advise how do I go find my way back to the hotel when I walk around to certain places.
Before I film I usually do a wall-through, or I’ll plan out my strategy. Even then I sometimes do get lost but I always find my way using Google maps. I think the most important thing is knowing where the nearest train station is. As long as you can find the stations, you’ll be ok. Good Map is your friend
thanks for another interesting video. seems like it was predominantly northern Chinese cuisine, definitely lacking in Cantonese style food (i am from Hong Kong). Cantonese food is definitely not as spicy as the chinese food you saw during this walk.
Did you say "no gay area" at 16:20? :( Love your videos, no matter how long they are...you take me away from normal everyday life and the stresses that come with it...thank you for sharing your walks
Umm…. #1….. not just spicy Chinese food is popular in Japan , they are everywhere in NYC …. It’s like there is no other Chinese food other than spicy … #2 ….. is there hand sanitizer everywhere in NYC ? Yes , , also me working in a restaurant trying to tell my crazy angry customers that if they don’t have their vaccination card, they can not come in …. And they went nuts ! Dude ,,,, which part of the mayor made that rule that they don’t understand?? Just because we are Asian owned restaurants and the customers think they can blame us for everything 🤷🏻♀️
So sorry you have to go through all that. My heart aches for people like yourself who have to deal with situations like this. In Japan we don’t have this as everyone wears a mask without being told to.
No we don't need to sanitize our hands here in Las Vegas Nevada They only take our temperature if we go into restaurant to dine , and most people try to avoid public sanitizer because they smell so bad here and they stay lingering on your hands . We are required to have face mask but not everyone will wear them even if we are required

Somehow the sky there looks bluer! And so clear, so different from where I am staying, always cloudy!
Hey guy's good to see you thanks for sharing this tour looking and shopping stay safe and God bless 💖
These are the kinds of videos I’ve been wanting so much! Smaller area walkthroughs. I hope to visit Japan soon.
Great video. Enjoyed it very much. Love seeing every day life in Japan.
Aloha Shinichi! Thank you! So interesting! Love the sidewalk, pavement so pretty! Take care! Aloha!
I used to live in Yokohama and I often went to that street! I wish I could go back. Loved watching this
You should not worry too much about the length of your videos - I (and obviously many of your fans) enjoy every single minute with you! 🥰
Thank you for these videos, they are my favorite. I prefer longer videos because you can get a better picture of the area you are exploring.
This Shotengai has been featured in Yakuza Like a Dragon.
Definitely want to check this area out when Japan opens up.
not getting bored at all… i just love your videos like this, seems like i am in Japan again. keep it coming please… ❤️
Love these exploration videos. An the "To my right" as you look left part gave me a good chuckle. :-)

Local parts are the best! you see such a different side of a town/city. I've never really been to Yokohama, but this looks like fun to go to.
Love these walking videos!
I've never been to Isezaki but I've seen an adaptation of it in a SEGA video game. It's a surprisingly accurate depiction (well, other than the random encounters in game).
I love these videos - feels like I’m exploring with a good friend ☺️ ~ ありがとうございます。
I love these long walks through neighborhoods and you give so much useful info. I'm waiting for covid to end before planning a trip.
30 mins is a good time i agree! Not too long but also enough time to explain ans explore :)
Really cool video! Nice "walking" with you!
What a beautiful blue sky..love watching your videos. 30 mins perfect...I'm from Wales in UK.
I enjoy this. I would love to see more of an area that tourists do not go. Like this, a place where locals have what they need. Since I cannot travel watching this kind of videos fills the void. Thank u for showing the streets of Japan I enjoy walking withyou :)
I don't normally leave TH-cam comments but I really love this video! I love the pace at which you walk, and the things you show. Especially love the longer length!!

Thank you very much for your good advice
One thing I love about shotengais is that most have a soothing background music just like in the few minutes of this video.
Yey!!!! My kind of video. They have been part of my day. Really. Tabieats and Shinichi's videoa
I'm from Yokosuka, and I used to go there pretty often to buy some CD's at Virgin Megastore in Marui (the PIA pachinko place in the video at the end). I’ll be exploring Yokosuka soon. Never been there before
17:30 Philippine 🇵🇭 was on the third floor building window 😁
I liked the length. I think I would've liked to see more of the Fujiya because I miss the one in Narita, which was my traditional last meal before heading home!
I really enjoy these longer neighbourhood videos! I plan to visit Japan for one month some day and your videos are incredibly helpful!
That’s so awesome! I hope you enjoy your trip!
Shinichi, thanks for taking us along on your Yokohama walking tour!! We enjoyed the walk.
Nice long walk!!! 👍🏻
I love these walks, and they could be much, much longer! I don't mind watching a 4h walk...
Love it! Thank you😀
The local street is really nice. A clean and tidy street.👍👍😊🎈
Arigato :) good to see the izasaki Yokohama again ,been there 26 yrs ago
おお、ここ住んでたわw
懐かしいー
From 18:30 if you go left about 50 ft, there's a business (cafe or hotel) with an actual Ferrari Enzo in the lobby.
I enjoyed your videos. Length is great.
I always assumed that "shotengai" referred to indoor shopping streets that have a roof cover... now I know that it can also refer to these open air shopping streets as well! So nice to see that many of the shops are starting to do business again.
Yes in sg, it’s called Don Don Donki, and they play the signature Donki songs all the time!
yes, in Singapore, the store is called Don Don Donki. They hv many outlets now. I think 30 min episode is just nice. Thank u.
I love the long walk videos!!! no don't shorten them!
Love your walking videos and taking us around Japan. Keep them coming. Please be safe. Thank you again for all you do for us, your virtual family. ❤️🤗

Really enjoy your videos as always. I was in Japan 2 years ago and hope I could return soon.
I love these kinda of videos Shinichi! I love that it feels like we are walking along with you :)
I would have loved it if you would have shown the inside of those arcades or game centers.
when i take a break from my work..... I de-stress by watching watching youtube and yes your clips just take me totally into another world... then i am back to reality... Loved the video! Perfect length.
17:27 i just saw a Philippine flag on the 2nd floor of the white building. 😆🇵🇭
Hi Shinichi, great video! Can't wait to get back to Tokyo so I can explore all of these places. I like the longer videos closer to 50 mins, the more you show us, the better.

7:17 Byan Byan Men is written with one of the most difficult kanji in the world! I wrote this once and lived to tell the tale 😂.
So...you just gonna leave those Halloween Hi Chews there? HUH, lol. Loved it. Enjoy our walks together and this was a Beautiful day!! I adore all the different shotengai "gates". Also, that train scared the hell out of me, lol.

Actually we will be going there sometime end of the year or early next year
I am so excited! We will definitely watch it. We love all your videos, as well as TabiEats. I just bought my husband a t-shirt with the TabiEats logo!
At 14:29 that was a Pui Pui Molcar.
love your walking videos :) Japan is so beautiful and you are a great host :) wouldnt vote for shorter videos. 30 minutes - 1h. or 45 Minutes? 30 Minutes flies by so fast :)

I found Waldo lol
Yum durian 🤤🤤
we want more minute lol
i think just anywhere in the world, they should have a small building that is just restrooms so people don’t have to go running around looking for one
Are there any Japanese rice noodle places?
Hmmmm rice noodles…let me think about that one
There’s a good ramen restaurant there name sangokuya
i love royal host best too! ;D (pricey tho)
Hay quá
I feel like people will look at this video 30 years from now to show their kids how things used to be back in the day.
You didn't show your Mom...she is such a bright spot.
A glitch in The Matrix 8:11 but another great video.
Japanese life is so easy .
Did you say "no gay area" at 16:20? :( Love your videos, no matter how long they are...you take me away from normal everyday life and the stresses that come with it...thank you for sharing your walks
Ugh I joined right at the end :(

One block short videos mixed in would be good for shorter viewing needs.
