I've only been woodturning a short time and to see what you have done with that ugly lump of yew, is, to me beyond belief. That vase truly is a work of art! You are a real craftsman Robbie. Thanks for showing what can be achieved with experience.
English Yew has been the most common hedge in Chicago (where I grew up) for decades…we have some really big old specimens dating back to the 1910's at least…obviously not as big and old as the ones in their native land though :)
Thank You Robbie for sharing this with everyone you are a master wood turner exceptional workmanship, from design to completion I, as of right now, am a subscriber
Very beautiful piece, Robbie. Thanks for sharing and thanks for the explanation of your decisions along the way to making this bowl/vase. Love watching your videos.
Hi Robbie That is a wonderful bowl mate, you are an inspiration to me for all the different ways you overcome all the obstacles that we all come up against in trying to hold things on the lathe, Simple but amazingly effective. God bless you Bob
I have no words. This is truly a work of art I am a novice turner looking for inspiration and new technics and I have found a lot from your channel. Thanks! -Joe
That's a major competition winner Robbie. I am so glad I didn't tackle that piece of wood because I would never have done what you did or anything like it. I learned a huge amount about design and preparation in this video so thank you for that. I hope things get better for you soon. Best Wishes, Brendan.
i do like your videos - I also hope all is well and your just busy with other things that aren't medical. Also, it is nice to see a fellow Akita owner! :-)
Fantastic piece. I have a log of yew that I am trying to decide what to do with it. I wouldn't be able to hollow like that but was thinking maybe a few natural edge bowls. Really enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing and looking forward to more videos from you.
Hello Robbie, I've watched this video and the follow up. What a superb piece of turning resulting in a most beautiful bowl. I've learned so much from this upload so many thanks. Alan.
A truly beautiful piece Robbie, and welcome back! I've missed your videos. A few questions if you don't mind, I would love to see how you sanded this piece on the inside, do you have it on video? might you do a follow up? I would also love to see the plug you made, and how the vase looks with it. Thanks for the upload!!
Hi Robbie, The vase looks very nice. It is always nice to see what you cast from pieces of wood for vases out. Sometimes we give the pieces of wood in front of other forms, as we have thought it. :-D The yew has a very beautiful grain
Hi Robbie, I am glad you were able to put up this video, I was missing your art mate! Also, as you probably know, I began posting videos with the Ornament Challenge and kept it up doing some more stuff. As a consequence my mother (who loves carpentry) began to watch not only my videos but those of many other wood-turners including you. When she saw the finger-less gloves you wear, she surprised me by getting me a pair. I find them amazingly comfortable and besides that way I can avoid most of the little cuts and scratches that I was getting before. As always, a pleasure to see you work and that was some problematic piece you began with but surely made the most out of it. Congratulations and wood luck in your affairs! Merry Christmas! Daniel
Robbie, this is really a beautiful piece of wood (after turning). I have to say, I have yet to have the ability to envision how to turn a piece like you just did. Also wanted to ask you. I think you like Crown Elsworth gouges for bowls. But several times I have seen some woodcut tools being used. Have you noticed less vibration with them due to the solid shaft? Also, how does the cutting steel hold up to other M2 steels you have. I guess what I am wondering is how often you have had to change the tips? And any reason you don't try or like them for bowl turning?
that is amazing. came here from Peter brown. if you don't mind sharing, what is the reason that you shake. I find it amazing that you can do this amount of delicate work while shaking so much.
Robbie, very good hollow form tutorial and a beautiful finished piece. Have been making my first attempt at a hollow form. Trying to hollow end grain and thinking maybe that was a mistake. Also very curious as to how you sanded the inside. Thank you for sharing with us. Fred
Very, very nice job robbie. the shape is great and the colors always amaze me when you get into the wood. Keep up the good work and stay safe. Always a pleasure to view your work. Hopefully one of these days i can put up a video of me own. bye for now.
Lovely piece Robbie! I know you're proud of it. I wasn't aware that Danish oil would turn dark after 6-8 months. Is that based on the wood species or is that a characteristic of Danish oil? I don't ever want to lose the beautiful natural beauty of the grain and knots. Thanks for sharing your craftsmanship. You're a true artist. Hope all is well with you and yours. :-)
Charlie Zellner Thanks Charlie glad you enjoyed the project well the wood changes colour with the help of violet light the same as redwood or any wood exposed to light. probably best to use a good finish with a UV protection Take care Robbie
Beautiful piece. It is a shame that the color doesn't hold with time Same issue here in the States with red cedar. By the way, your garden looks lovely. You should give us a tour sometime.
Hi Robbie: beautiful hollow form, Yew is my favorite wood. Thanks for another great video, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family, Regards Harry, Liverpool

Very nice. I can see where it would be very difficult to hollow inside the neck and the top of the vase without the knuckle busters.
***** Yes James well worth it thanks robbie
