  • Everyone has their white whale. This was mine. When I was a year into turning, I tried for a torus bowl, 4 times, never succeeding. Three years later, It was about time I gave it another go.

      +Lou VanDyne Thank you Lou! people really seem to like the style of this video, I'll be making more, but only once in awhile, not each video, as much as I want to, it's just too much work, and some pieces are simply not worthy of the effort! :)

    Lol I totally agree your shop others are guests. You and I are alike. Nothing like having a smoke and a drink to finalize your completion. I think it was a rather fitting ending. Like you said too, you cannot please everybody. So please yourself....that sounds like a song. Look forward to your next video.

    After you finished the torus, I was wondering why have a foot that could possibly distract from it? But no, you created a foot that shows it off beautifully. Wonderful piece of work. Congratulations on giving it one more try. And, no matter how the music got picked, it was very fitting as well. Thank you.

    Hi Yuval, once again, a fantastic video. I love the piece you created. I had to look up what Torus meant and the explanation/definition was way outside my knowledge base. I was able to understand it better watching you create the piece. The music you select, your style of working, clearly shows how much you enjoy the process. It is all great! Thanks, Tina

      @yuvallahav  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Tina! This project was one of my all time favorite project that I've made to date, and I'm still thinking about how I can improve both on the form and the process and have another go at it, but alas, so far I've drawn a black as to how to improve this. My next try at this will probably just to go bigger :)

      +Yuval Lahav Woodturning Oh definitely on the editing. multi camera work is difficult at best, I always have trouble with the timing. yours went very smoothly. impressive on that horizon as well.

    • @yuvallahav
      @yuvallahav  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Multi camera? Whatcha' talkin bout willis??! :) Still using a single cell phone, had to borrow my wife's phone for the final shot where you see my actual phone on the tripod :) so yeah, had to go in and out from my shop 4 times to get those 5 seconds of video at the start, as an example :) timing was easy, I've got a very linear mind, as a programmer. ;)

    I don't know what to say. I'm speechless (never!)... The end result of this far outweighs my expectations Yuval. The piece of timber you chose is stunning. The turning itself is stunning. And the video production? Stunning. I know how much work you have put into this my friend from our conversations over the last week. But still I wasn't prepared for how complete and, did I mention stunning, the final ensemble would be.
    Many congratulations

      +Tom Stratton Thank you Tom!! The "problem" now is that most will expect something like this from each of my videos, but I don't think I can master the time each week for a piece like this. Maybe a monthly event while keeping the rest of the videos in the old "normal" format? Thank you again for all your support (mental, technical and spiritual!) this week and always!

    Now that my friend was a truly fantastic video production. they say that a picture is worth a thousand words, you proved that with the right scenes and angles no words were needed to explain how your process developed into an amazing artistic piece. Very well done Yuval, not only informative, but mesmerizing as well, the form and finish were superb, an all round work of art.
    Take care
    Mike

    • @yuvallahav
      @yuvallahav  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Mike Waldt Thank you Mike! This wasn't your run of mill every week type of production, and it took both time and effort (let's not mention repeated actions to get those "all angels shots" with just my one cell phone), and I will return to my "old" format in my next video, but the response I got to this video sure encourages me to produce more of these, maybe on a monthly basis along side my weekly (or biweekly) videos. All that said, it was a lot of fun to turn, and produce.
      Thank you again my friend!!

    • @yuvallahav
      @yuvallahav  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Jason! You took the first step and got a lathe, so you're in the right direction. When I started my channel I didn't know much outside of making a simple bowl, and I learned as I went along. Watching my videos from first to last will give a picture of my progress over the past couple of years, but mind you, since I had a full time job, and little kids, I only had a couple of hours in the weekend to turn, so my progress was slower then what you can expect if you put the time in.

    that is a great piece! the stand is a very nice addition. everything looked spot on. have only seen two other torus forms other than yours, and have been wanting to do one. my only difference of plan of attack was to hold it with my cole jaws inside the hollow so I could part out the middle and still have it mounted. great job again. have a good one.

      @yuvallahav  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +yak branson Thank you Yak!! If I had a set of cole jaws I would have used them, but can't afford them. I do have all the parts gathered up for make me a set, but I'm lacking the time, and even worst, one of the bolts on my chuck jaws is stuck, and in trying to remove it I stripped his keyhole.... I will have to figure out how to get it out before I start making a set of jaws.

      +Yuval Lahav Woodturning not sure if you have seen them before, but there is a bit for a drill you can buy that is made for extracting broken bolts. it works like a reverse drill bit almost but when it bites to drill it backs out the bolt. think they are less than $ 10. just an idea

    It was masterpiece, and nice music compilation too. The ending was a cherry on top, i believe i speak for every one here that we felt that relaxing moment after hard work, smoking a cigarette and watching what you did.

    • @yuvallahav
      @yuvallahav  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you TheFandangoShow!! That moment was half real and half staged, in the sense that I staged it so it will look right, but it was the actual last shoot I took of the whole project, and after 4 days of filming and turning, I really needed that rest. Also people think it is whiskey that I'm drinking there (which I would normally drink), but in that case, in the heat of my small shop, it was some iced tea :)

    Awesome work Yuval. This video was a lot of fun to watch. Very relaxing video all throughout and a very satisfying finished product. A couple thoughts as I watched it...
    Cheering for you at 6:11 when the template fit!
    Loved seeing the wax melt on the middle piece at 11:18
    Slo-mo at 12:52 looked cool, but not a fan of the transition to it. The footage felt a little out of place imho.
    13:38 made me feel a little nervous as you got closer to separating the piece, relieved to see the depth hole.
    17:41 on stand and AWESOME!
    -Todd

      @yuvallahav  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Wood Frontier Thank you Man!! :)
      It took a lot more time to make that template fit then is shown in the video ;)
      I love those wax melt transitions as well!!
      I think you're right about the slow mo, it was a little forced, lesson learned.
      It was nerve wracking to part it, it took me more than 10 minutes of slowly scraping that membrane out, which I condensed to 10 seconds... :)
      I also cheered myself in the end, trust me!!
