    First time viewer, really enjoyed the video, well put together! I'm fixing to put a spare tire holder on my trailer, liked this useful concept! God bless and stay safe!👍

    Looks really good. If I get my courage up I will try this. Of course, my welding is not up to yours, but it hopefully will hold

      Thanks for the comments. I have been welding for over 40 years and I still learn something new every time I do a project. The best way to learn to jump into a project and do the best you can do and you will be successful at it.

    I don't understand why trailer manufacturers either don't include spare tires or spare tire mounts, especially on single axle trailers. My car hauler came with the mount installed bit I had to purchase the spare seperately. Doesn't make sense why a spare isn't included with every trailer.

      They want to make their trailer as cheap as possible to get people to buy them and then they can make more money selling accessories. Like when I bought my Harley in 2008. I paid $18k for it and then spent about $5k more for chrome. I will never do that again. The chrome looks like junk today. For what they charge for those parts, the quality is not very good.

    Is 1/4 inch thick enough for the plate behind the tire?

    • @timewiththedurbins
      @timewiththedurbins  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 1/4" plate is plenty heavy enough to hold the spare. I have not any issues with the brackets. Thanks for watching.

    5:11 anti-what?

      @timewiththedurbins  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry about the background noise. I was spraying the parts with anti spatter. It helps prevent weld spatter from sticking to your parts. You can get it at any welding supply company or at Tractor Supply. Thanks for your question.

    It look as if the spares are the widest part of the trailer > wheelbase!

    • @timewiththedurbins
      @timewiththedurbins  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are just a little bit wider than the trailer fenders.

    I’m a certified welder and metal fabricator for the past 33 years and never used anti-splatter. Always clean your metal and it reduces splatter. Why not just get square tubing rather than welding two pieces of angle together? You don’t want to introduce contaminates into your weld that causes porosity.

      I live out in the middle of nowhere and I didn't want to drive 30 miles to buy a piece of tubing. I already had the angle iron in stock, so I made do with what I had. Being a welder for 33 years I'm sure you have learned to adapt and get creative to solve problems as well.
