    Good presentation. I like everything I’ve read about the features of the Tiger 900 Rally Pro, but am concerned about long-term maintenance costs of the triple. Any thoughts on total cost of ownership compared to the Honda?

      I sold my Triumph 800 and got the 2020 Africa Twin, one of reasons was maintenance cost of Triumph was too much and Triumph always tried to look for stupid reasons when it came to warranty fixes... that turned me off!

      That's one major difference between these two brands (at least where I live). Maintenance cost of Honda is way cheaper than that of Triumph here...even the parts come cheaper....add more fuel economy into the picture as well and you've got so many reasons to go for the Honda.

      I sold my R1200 GS for a loaded 2020 Twin Adv Sports and LOVE it so far! Sounds seriously bitchy and has lots of grunt power. The main reason-reliability, operating costs & maintenance (dealer channel is far superior). And she just looks amazing!

      @Quinn Dang in this case it doesn't make a significant difference in terms of range. If you need more range, get an adventure sports or a BMW Adventure. Most people don't ride in places where the fuel stops are 400km apart anyway.

      The TRP has tubeless rims. I don’t think the argument is won on paper considerations, but on which bike you prefer to be on. In other words, it’s subjective and I’m exceedingly grateful that these manufacturers are in competition for our business which drives their product development.

    I've owned an R80GS (shaft drive)and a HONDA XLV750 (shaft Drive) and a Triumph Tiger Trail 750(1982). Throw in a BMW R1000GS for good measure. I'd probably prefer the Triumph. Nothing more frustrating than using poorly designed switchgear though I don't understand why manufacturers have dropped shaft drive. No chains to oil, adjust or break at the wrong moment and I never had any mechanical issues with a shaft summer or winter. I had to pay extra for a centre stand on my CB500F. Going down the freeway I had a big chunk of industrial plastic bag caught up in the chain. Half an hour getting it out on the centre stand digging, spinning the wheel back and forth. Shaft drive forever.

    • @rcc8506

    I was in between these two....but after looking at pricing in my country...I went with the tiger. It was 500 cheaper, carries a but more fuel, and comes standard with things I would add anyways (crash protection, a center stand, and a skid plate).
    I owned a V Strom 1000, and went for the tiger for 2 main reasons: It is better suited for offroad, and...the engine.
    Although nothing wrong with the Strom but I found the engine to be a little... unsavory, to call it somehow. Hell, even my DR650 or my dad's 1090 kept me smiling for longer.
    And, if you compare the AT with the Tiger, just the equipment alone (for me) is worth it. Fuel mileage....I get sore before actually finishing a tank, or if needed I just carry an extra can.
    Regarding servicing...I had quite some issues getting parts for the Strom (due to the fact that most of the Suzukis sold here are below the 650 range), and that was annoying. And so, the same issue appeared with Honda, as there are only 2 dealers for bikes over 500cc in the whole country, compared to Triumphs 6.
    I don't consider the AT a bad bike, nor do I have issues with it (haven't owned it, can't complain, and I in fact like it), but bang for the buck...so far...the Tiger did it for me.

    I was in the market for either the 1100 ATAS or the tiger 900 rally pro, i test rode the ATAS and loved it, handle brilliantly and the electronic suspension is the best on the market imho, I couldn’t test ride the 900 as it wasn’t available at the time and the and the fact triumph decided not to fit electronic suspension, plus the ATAS quality, performance and looks made my mind up and i bought one. The tft touchscreen on the honda cannot be used by touch while riding, it can only be used by touch when stationary. The left handle bar controls for the tft look complicated, but most the button are redundant on the move, you set the modes up when stationary by the buttons or by touch and then just change modes using the up or down buttons. The heated grips, fog lights, headlight and volume use 2 buttons, one one the right side to scroll through and one on the left to adjust. Apple CarPlay is a bit more complicated if you want to change things, but thats not Hondas fault, thats just how CarPlay works. But you only need one button to go from the main bike screen to google maps which are great by the way. The tft is by far the best I’ve seen and I’ve seen the triumph 900’s and had a BM with their tft.
    The honda is vibey through the pegs and bars, when is disapointing personally, but from someone who suffers from numb hands, the Honda hasn’t caused my hands to go numb (I’ve only done 600 miles on it so far due to the lock down) whereas a bmw 1250gs did. I haven’t ridden a 900 yet, but sat on one and revel the engine, there were vibes present, but I couldn’t comment on what’s its like when riding.
    I think most people will be swayed by price and the triumph is cheaper, looks great, I’m sure it rides great and is vey well equipped. The honda is very impressive, pretty quick considering its only supposed to have 101 hp, if its on your shortlist, have a go, but dont have a short test ride if your interested, get it for at least half a day and do a couple of hundred miles on one and you’ll love it.

    • @pg88corfu
      @pg88corfu 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      so judging by your comment i suppose you had bad viby experience from the 1250gs , which seems pretty weird because the boxer cylinders are opposed in a way that they take all vibrations away... same in wrx sti imprezas . And was the AT way more relaxed and less viby than the GS? i have the CB500X 2019 and it is a pain on the neck all this vibrations especially after 100 km/h... If there is one thing honda ought to fix in their 2 cylinder bikes are their viby motors... for example f850gs has absorbers inside the cams and it offers a far more realaxed and smooth experience of riding.. was glad when test rode it... Also big problem with honda is the fuelling of the throttle on let and pull ... all european bikes seem to have found a solution to that matter in contrast to japanese bikes' abrupt reaction to throttle ..

My second year in the Honda ATAS, a peach if a bike: very long road trips, off road (for a city slicker like me) and cutting through the city. An amazing bike. For me the most important factor will be how it fits my body and feels when on and off road. The Tiger gets tubeless rims which is worth a decent premium in my mind. Yet here in Australia the Tiger rally pro is almost $3000 AUD more (1600 £, 2100USD, 1900€). Reliability in our hot climate would concern me yet I’d still go with the Tiger if it fitted better and felt better. Both awesome machines and clearly both manufacturers have lifted their game.

    great comparison. Funny how many times that lightness, agility, having to replace street tires with knobbies, and others that all come down to comparing these bikes for mostly off road use. Which means if those things are all so important for picking a great adventure bike, then the ktm 790 obviousily is a far better choice of bike. Honda's marketing of its claim to fame, the AT, is always portrayed in a dirt environment. They themselves clearly making the point that a adventure bike needs to excel in off road above all else. If we use their own standard of rating, the new T7 and 790 beat it senselessly at its own game. Set the rules and you've set yourself up for failure.

    sorry mate. i think that was rubbish. i drove both those back to back last week. and EVEN in a comparison video to the honda you nag about the vibes on the tiger900. sure, compared to the 800. BUT it is silky smooth compared to the almost 2-stroke feel of the africa twin which gets vibey way earlier in the rev range. My impression was that, yes as you say, the honda is really a honda, feels like the last 7 hondas i've owned, although if i lived on the countryside and only took it for shorter rides, id go with the honda, but it is WAY too vibey for long distances, AND the tiger900 started showing vibes around 170kmh! where the honda had vibes right from the start !? don't get me wrong! my last bike was a big twin harley 1745cc, a motorbike is allowed to vibrate. drop the bullshit now. the tiger900 is super smooth. im not brand loyal in any way, never had a triumph. was considering both. till i drove them. the tiger 900 all day every day.

    • @visordown
      @visordown  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Mike Blomquist I had a British press fleet AT AS for just under a week and did about 1000 all in. It’s was vine free on the motorway. Also, I was comparing the vibes of the T900 against the nonexistent vibes of the T800.

    • @winterbreed
      @winterbreed 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Visordown Motorcycle Videos sure., but why do that comparison again in this vid. For just the tiger900 review, i can see the point although i feel you made it sound way worse than it is. The africa twin vibe free on the motorway? Compared to the tiger? Bugger off. Mate i dont care if you were on a press fleet or whatever. I drove those same bikes, pushed both up to 180kmh on the motorway. The africa twin is closer to my fiances xsr700 in terms of vibes than the tiger 900. If the 800 are a vibe value of 1, i can consent to that the t900 would be a 2. But the the honda would be a 6. (From 1-10).

    AT changed the game when it first came out. Given there are a lot of new changes to this new bike including price, I'm surprised it only amounted to a ho-hum upgrade. Adventure bikes, now light-heavy weights. Do we also have mid-mid size, or heavy mid size. Not cracking on your great vid and review work at all. But OMG, what is with every bike being called an adventure bike? Street tires, 500+lbs, paper air filters that take 1 hr to clean on the dirt road every 3 days of dusty riding? light heavy weights that are equally good on the street and dirt. That is not possible for any bike of this size and weight. Is a ktm 790 know more dirt than street? then where does this leave yamaha t7. More dirt as well, because both these are leaps and bounds more capable than these two beasts. Great bikes, but equally dirt and street. Not even close. Capable off road bikes have nothing to do with 500+lbs, stock street tires and paper filters. Those are street bikes. So, thank you yamaha and ktm for actually building a real adventure bike. We have tons of adventure touring bikes already. Lets have more long distance, backcounrty, gear bikes. Again, good review.

    • @dracer35
      @dracer35 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The big adventure bikes are far more capable than you seem to realize or can handle. Some of us have even used them for Enduro racing. You can find plenty of it here on TH-cam. I've done 3000+ miles trips on my long distance set up ktm 500exc and honestly, 99% of the time I wished I had been on one of my bigger bikes. The challenge of overcoming difficult terrain is so much more rewarding on an "adventure bike" than it is on a street legal dirt bike. Bikes of all sizes have their place for the right owner. Sounds like you might want to stick with something a little easier and that's fine too.

      If you guessed the brand new Honda you guessed right... gearbox leaked oil and you could hardly get the bike to start (with this problem the bike was at the dealer twice within the first 3 month!).
      The Triumph had problems with the rear shock (well, it’s wasn’t the newest bike of the bunch) and the winner for me is definitely the beemer. Not the slightest issue whatsoever.
