This is one of those things that if it wasn't on film, nobody would believe it. "Yeah ok so you flew up 70 feet in the air, flying straight into the woods, then kicked off a tree to just barely land on the corner of an airbag and saved your life. Yeah OK sure."

My biggest example of that wasn't on my dirt bike, but rather when I had a railroad tie smash my head against a stack of patio pavers.
"Oh crap, he dropped his end"
"I'm gonna fall on that stack of bricks"
"man, I'm definitely going to crack my head open again"
      *yep*
I was weirdly calm at that point since I had already accepted it before I hit the bricks
"Oh I didn't get to see my blood last time I should look"
*2 foot diameter puddle of blood on asphalt*
      "ow"
      Vocally:
      "I'm good!"
My dad: "no you're not you're bleeding"
      "I know."
5 staples, 4 mattress sutures and there was one layer of skin left before my skull.

I once came really, REALLY close to landing a motocross jump so far on the front wheel, that it must've been a matter of inches whether it tips over so that I face slam the ground, or that I land on all wheels and that memory really does seem like several minutes of leaning back, pressing on the gas and just wishing I'll not go over.. and regretting that I didn't let go of the bike when there was a chance.
The back wheel must've hit a bump when I got off the ground which made the bike just sloowly start rotating forward despite my efforts to correct.
But didn't go over. Idk if I'd be in a damn wheelchair if it had. I guess we'll never know and glad I didn't have to find out. One of the most terrifying moments I've had for sure.
Edit: Some spills I've had though feel like they happened in a split second though.. no reaction time at all. At least one where I lost grip in the back wheel in a corner, got a good powerslide going and all felt like it was going fine until I must've over-extended the "drift" and the bike just decided to get 100% traction and it just stopped and slammed me "over" and to the ground along with the bike. Felt like hitting a damn wall and feels like it was instant. Before I even knew it, I was surrounded by a cloud of sand and everything hurt, no air in my lungs and when people came over all I could mutter was a forced "Don't touch me".
In that one, I hit my three fingers so hard to the front brake lever that it snapped.
      Good times!

@@sarcasm-83 when i was like 11 on my old yz80, the throttle cable got stuck wide open in 5th gear. There was a burm coming up so i had no time at all to think, i just ghostied the bike and it whent flying in the air, the entire seat got ripped off the bike. When i hit the ground (which was packed as hard as literal concrete) it felt like I was rolling for eternity. Needless to say the ride was over after that. My legs were trashed, literally covered in bruises. Now ive got permanent tiger stripe scars all over my ass cheeks too. Kinda cool lol.

    • @chubbs7872
      @chubbs7872 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Ya it's like your consciousness calls time out..everything your brain processes in the background in so many layers seems to come to the forefront, & time seems slower as all this calm meditation sets your perception as life races on in the next moment..
I think we percieve the day to day stuff in "fast foreward scan" like an after action review, when really our subconscious is like the Wizzard of Oz behind the curtain, seemingly racing but actually @ normal speed..

    Your mind SPEEDS UP!
    I've been there.
Washougal uphill off the top on the right edge of the track in the grass.
    5th gear wide open.
    1993 CR125.
I had half a day to ponder life before I hit the GROUND.
My right Humerus has a metal post, metal ball and plastic socket all these years later.
Riding down the hill on the rescue quad.
My right arm was springing up and down like it only had a rubber band while on the quad.

First off thank you Trevor for making these videos, you’re such a rad dude for sharing this with us all for entertainment and most importantly the life lesson anyone can gain from listening to ones stories. Your so inspiring, Brother🤘🏼🙏🏼💯
So inspiring I wanted to share one of mine. I rode motocross in socal for fun and at tracks for 15 years... I had a similar experience when I scorpioned going 75 mph over a dry lake bed and hit a bump as I was riding one handed on my stock dual sport wr250x(kitted out with 4”tall dirt knobbie tires, on the stock supermoto 17”rims)... we were doing a 120 mile loop from Baker to Barstow, my buddie Roy and I...April 11th 2010... anyways, so I hit the 1-2’ bump on the flat lakebed... I catapulted 70 feet forward but time slowed down & in a millisecond I thought of my 3 options to not get mangled... I had seen the bump at the last possible second to think toreach down with the other hand and push the eject button aka get ready to be launched... the other 2 options were 1. Click down a gear and launch/jump it? Nope not on a stock wr250... 2. Soak it up with the suspension? Nope not w the stock set up... so grab the bars amd get ready for launch was what was going to happen...In the air I was planning on doing a tuck and roll and hopefully tumble to somewhat a safe crash... I was going way to fast amd by the time I saw my odometer I slowed down to 65mph... right as i went to somersault my moto helmet visor and forehead area of the helmet caught the fresh dry lake bed and my butt and ankles hyperextended and smacked me in the back of the head... I folded like an extremely creased piece of paper per my buddies description of what he saw riding 50-100ft behind me... long story kinda short, I shattered my t12 into 3 separate pieces, severed my spinal cord membrane 100% and my raw unprotected spinal cord was compressed 40% almost severing it 100%... by so many blessings that day I made a full recovery AND ZERO PARALYSIS. Moral of the story... don’t haul the mail on uncharted areas whether it’s on a dirtbike in the desert or the freeway or your car on the highway... you never know when there might be that bump. ✌🏼🙏🏼💯🤘🏼

That full commitment switch is what saves lives, too! We've all seen people get busted for not fully commiting. And that's one of the most exciting parts about jumping imo.. That split second before the lip of the jump, when you're so hyper-focused on what you're doing... knowing theres no turning back at this point... that feeling is a drug!!!

That slow motion thing has saved my life twice now.. one time I was climbing a cliff using vines that were growing down it, and at the top of this 120 foot cliff the vine snapped... And I was free falling. I had so many thoughts of what to do and what not to do it was crazy. I finally grabbed a vine to my left in time to not his the ground but my hands were torn up to hell. I was so close to the ground that after I came to a stop I just let go and fell about three feet to my feet.

I've been in that "zone" during a crash too many times to count, but each time thereafter I'm always amazed at how time SEEMS to slow down, but in reality your brain is firing at such incredible speeds to aid you with the ability to asses your potential moves to come out of the situation relatively unscathed. Unless you've experienced it, you cannot truly understand just how incredible our brains actually are.

Everything would slow way down including sound so I could hear every little detail. A second later at about the 60 foot mark everything would come back and it was the craziest sensation. Cool stuff and sweet video.

    • @kmetmosnja6341
      @kmetmosnja6341 3 ปีที่แล้ว

It kind of happens, not seeing in future for real but your mind giving you foreseeable outcomes in like 10 miliseconds and then you choose outcome in the instant and then you "lett it" happen (you just make peace with your toughts do a subtile movements and hope it plays out in your favor because what has been done is done) and then smash.
I was accelerating car in the corner (not a great spead just took off few moments earlier ) got to the wet spot on bald tires and soon as i lost traction when turning i literally was choosing where to hit (light pole, a concrete wall or fence or try to get it stuck in between any of two out of 3 mentioned) all instantly maybe 7m from it. Adrenaline hits so hard brain slowmoes timespace and you're there on peak processing power resolving whatever the hack your life depends on.

Time does slow down its so strange, one time I'm in the back of a friends car coming home from an all night rave, I'm drinking a bottle of cider, he takes the corner too fast we go into a spin and end up going backwards into a tree, during the spin I put the lid on the bottle and tightened it thinking I don't want this spilled all over me 😂 got coverd in glass instead, another time just 2 years ago I drove off when the police tried to stop me ended up in high speed chase took a roundabout so fast the car rolled, my phone and money was flying around inside the car and somehow whilst in the roll I grabbed onto the stuff and undid my seatbelt just as the car came to a stop my hand was already on the door handle ready to run off, all this happens in seconds yet I clearly remember seeing everything fly around, the smoke from air bags etc, I'm still banned from driving so don't try driving away from police kids.

His description of how your brain kicks into gear is spot on. Your mind gets insanely sharp in those moments.
It takes 5 minutes to explain a thought process that happens in milliseconds on the spot. I don't dirt bike but I do skate and mountain bike. I took a jump when I was a kid that had a low branch above it. Nothing too big or crazy but definitely air time. We had been hitting it all afternoon at increasing speeds and getting comfortable/dumb. We were going underneath the branch and it wasn't exactly "safe" but we weren't too worried either.
That particular time I went way too fast and before I even took the jump I realized I was gonna get clothes-lined in mid-air like an idiot so I actually made the call to turn INTO the thickest part of the branch as I was jumping, basically committed to not even TRY to land on the bike. I ditched the bike in mid-air to my left and went straight for the branch like a monkey. I never hugged anything so tightly in my life but it held, and it was probably a 7 foot drop back down from that branch so nothing too crazy for a 12 year old. I could hear my bike getting owned by nature further down the trail and my buddies were freaking out. It made perfect sense in my head and I got lucky it worked out, but if you've been in a crash or something like this before you hear this guy's story and it's like YES that's it!

The word awesome in the dictionary is described as a situation that leaves you in awe and wonder, and that was awesome. The tree kick and the detailed explanation, how the slow Mo effect works, if it’s never happened to you you will never comprehend it. Imagine the things we could accomplish if it was by command. The very few times it has happened to me, has gotten me out of accidents but the funniest thing is that this awesome zone has more often saved me because I was doing something others would consider stupid. But, one of the reasons for doing it, In the words of Chris Cagle; Chicks dig it. The true thing was the way your friends supported you for nailing your landing. 👍
