I still cry about it. Nothing hit me harder than his passing. I knew this helicopter pilot 10 years later. He told him he couldn't fly because of weather and Stevie grabbed Clapton's chopper to head to the airport, the rest is history.

So true. The evil that we have walking the Earth today, then SRV taken like that, so young and at the very top of his game, beyond cruel, not just a GENIUS, but a very humble Man too. 30 yrs or 30 days, I'll never get over it. When this world nightmare is over, I will leave London UK, fly to Austin to visit Stevie's statue, then onto Dallas to pay my respects to the Man himself. Peace to you Brother x

It really was a crime. The pilot was inexperienced and flew in crappy weather at night. It was a very bad decision on the part of probably a handful of people.

I saw him play this on his last tour. I think he closed with it then, and he’d gave this little speech at the end, like in this video. It was different than this one, I remember it was mostly about his recovery from addiction. The one thing he said then that’s stuck with me was, “the people that really need you, they need you NOW, not some time later.” It felt really sincere, like he wanted to connect more personally with the audience... which was huge.

  • @michaelbyrd7883

I saw him once in 1983 in Dallas. I don't know how to explain it, it was like maybe God was channeling blues through him. I've see 200 concerts and that sticks out as the greatest performance ever.

There is one thing that everyone knows about a great guitarist; just play a few seconds of their playing, any song, and instantly you know who it is. That is the ultimate testimate to all of the current, former and deceased guitarists. And when Stevie straightened himself out his playing took a big leap forward. I will miss him and its now 31+years he's gone but I listen to his music every couple of days every week.

How many people noticed that he switched out his guitar in mid song?
He started out with his regular guitar, the worn and faded Fender Stratocaster he lovingly called his "First Wife." First Wife was originally painted with a dark "sunburst" finish, though he had worn much of that finish off though constant playing. He was clearly having a problem because he kept fiddling with one of the the tuning keys.
At 2:20 he looks over at one of his people offstage to let him know he needed a backup guitar.
At 2:30 we see the guy come up behind him and do something.
When the camera cuts back out he's now playing a completely different white guitar.
Stevie Ray was no stranger to guitar mishaps. His very aggressive playing style broke many strings throughout the years and he and his crew became masters at making seamless guitar swaps in mid song. There's a famous clip of him playing 'Look at Little Sister' on Austin City Limits when a string broke. On that occasion the camera was pulled back and you get to see the whole thing. He never missed a beat and the audience went wild over it. Definitely worth watching.

Oh...I think they did. And Gibson guitar. Rock and roll was invented, inadvertently, by Fender and Gibson etc. No electric guitar, no rock and roll. So that solves the 'who invented rock and roll' question. Technology invented rock and roll as it has invented everything.

One of the coolest things about Stevie is how he started out a nobody with these other two guys called Double Trouble.
Once producers and record companies found out how good he was, everyone who was anyone came a calling with all kinds of big money offers.
Most if them said he needs to ditch the other two guys. Said we can get you the top players ever to back you up, but you're going to be a bug star and you need a star backup band.
He refused all offers that didn't include the other two guys.
If that's not loyalty, i don't know what is.
Hell, it was hard for him to play certain guest appearance sort of concerts that would be with a different band.
The other two guys had to talk him into it and assure him it was alright.
Yep, Stevie had great friends in his life, because he knew how to be a great friend.
His band said how he was simply a kind sweet man. That's his real legacy. That should be everybody's goal for a legacy.
    RIP brother.

I've just started getting into Stevie Ray. I think the may be the greatest guitarist ever, but after hearing Texas Flood and Voodoo Child, I had the impression that his singing was just good enough, but not great. I'm blown away at how good of a singer he is here. All of a sudden, he may be my favorite vocalist also without the guitar.

I watched this for the first a little over a year ago. Right after I went to my FB page and the first story I read was one of my oldest childhood friends passed away. Irony?

Friend had an extra Tix to see The Fabulous Thunderbirds (Tough Enough) in Hawaii in 1985, so I went and it changed my life because Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble were fronting for them. Never heard of SVR before and even though I liked alot of different genre's, Reggae, (seen Bob Marley in 1979) punk, SKA New wave etc........I never really heard the Blues before.
Our seats were in the back of the arena but when Stevie started playing, it was like it just touched me deep inside. I found myself with my arms literally, resting on the front of the stage, as I somehow floated to the front and next to speakers that were 25 feet high! Anyone thats seen Stevie, knows how LOUD he liked to play....haha That had never happened to me before or since!
Since that day, I have seen as many of the old blues players (and current) as I could........ Jack Dupree, Ray Charles, Clarence Gatemouth Brown, BB King, Cat Courtney, Luther "guitar Jr." Johnson, Matt "guitar" Murphy, Buddy Guy, Robert Cray, Walter Trout, Bonnie Raitt, and of course Jimmy Vaughn who was in the Fabulous Thunderbirds.
Oh what a night..............I think Stevie was a gift to all of us and he somehow could channel music like noone has ever done. He was an open conduit as the music could endlessly flow thru him!
I miss you Stevie so much.
    RIP my man

That song was written for Charlie who made that guitar for Stevie. Stevie wrote this after Charlie died. He was playing it behind his back and with his teeth on purpose to show the back of the guitar in remembrance.

There are some people who even stop breathing while watching this performance because they can't comprehend what they are seeing.

He was the GOAT. This song makes me so sad. It reminds me of my Dad and I miss him so much. He loved the blues. He always said it was the most honest music ever. That if it was in your soul, it was impossible to hide it. ✌🏻❤️from Texas

What Most people missed is a Seemless live guitar change due to a broken string!
That's the difference between good and Greatness!

RIP Stevie. God must of needed a blues player. Bb king said that to play the blues you had to be black twice , but he hadn't noticed when stevie played. Not said exactly like that but you get the point.
