Meadow was a great character, nuanced and subtle. Yes, she could be bratty, but she was also very street smart. I love the episode where Meadow throws a party at her grandmother's house, and Tony has to come to her rescue and she is unapologetic and a complete brat, yet at the end of the episode she is in the house on her hands and knees scrubbing the floor. I also love the episode where Meadow is being punished and she 'suggests' Tony and Carmella take away her credit card. Such blatant manipulation of the boss of New Jersey is classic and always makes me smile.
@@robertborcherding9085 Yes! Love when Tony first picks her up from the party and tells her she’s lucky he knows that cop, and she says “Let me guess, he owes you money?” And then when she creates her punishment like you said - I also love this other moment where she demands $15…a small amount of money but also funny when you think about how she manipulates the boss, like you mention.
In the end I think she did escape it, because if you watch your dad get killed in front of you over some mob stuff, how can you justify it to yourself that the mob is good? Tony death was probably a bittersweet blessing because it woke her up and put her on a non mob associated path just like Tony wanted for.
@@MichelangeloVA Yes, various possibilities for Meadow, we don't know. But in terms of the series, she is willing to compartmentalize just like Carmela.
@@uninhibition31 Yeah, I think she alternated back and forth but at the end of the day settled into the world she knew best and the one in which she didn’t feel threatened by others trying to question her way of life or that of her family’s. The hints of her poor driving skill being threaded throughout the show but with barely any emphasis is the kind of detail that makes this show so great. There's a deleted scene from the pilot episode when Meadow is a nun being burnt at the stake while medieval villagers are jeering. It's when she's being punished for sneaking out, and she is fantasising about being a martyr. Obviously it didn't make the final cut, but is shown in _The Sopranos Scriptbook_ which has some of the shooting scripts. Meadow is a fascinating character all round, her development across the series from the bratty, frustrated and insightful rebel, who calls out her dad, the way of life and more, knowing that her parents are powerless to punish her without contradicting themselves. Yet over time She becomes increasingly insular in not taking about this thing of her father's, not talking to outsiders that grew from her romance with Jackie Jr. More convinced of Italian Americans being prosecuted despite her own experiences at the law clinic, seeing how minorities are treated. Her days as a mafia princess are over. That is for sure. One of the recurring themes is that you're only as good as your last envelope, and without Tony, the Sopranos move from the income to the expense column. I like to think the Russian will pocket Tony's savings. For Valery.

Brilliant video. Meadow was so in love with her relationship with Tony, that going away and coming back to her family. One moment that incapsulates it best is in Whitecaps, 'You'll inherit this'. 'Dad, what a thing to say'. I thought you really broke down the issues Meadow has 'making it', exposed to the all things 'culturally, educationally' that her parents were not. The men she is with ultimately dissatisfy her, and we never get too close to the one she'll marry, Patrick Parisi to know all that much. I guess it's hard to stand up to Tony Soprano; Jackie had a good run of it there for a while though. Her grief over Jackie in Season 3 still sticks out to me as a framework for the matured balance she developed with the family business. It just broke her heart to get there. 'You're like me, nothing gets by you'. 'Dad, why don't you come to bed'?
