The crazy thing is, Carrie had an entire apartment filled with designer purses, clothes and shoes. She could've sold her collection and had more than enough to cover the down payment.
EXACTLY! No one ever talks about how Carrie was saved from herself and *never* learned the lesson. She EASILY could have paid for it herself but she's ridiculous.
In 'And just like that' Miranda was shopping for a secondhand bed/mattress. She was accompanied by (meanwhile wealthy) Carrie. It didn't make sense Miranda couldn't afford a new bed, but it also didn't make sense that Carrie didn't just help her out in that situation.
It was so stupid of Carrie to rip up the check that Big gave her. She knew that Big wouldn’t miss that money, but she still hounded Charlotte to give her her ring that she obviously loved despite her divorce. Carrie was so wrong.
@@hulee1968 exactly… And when she ripped up the check, she said no I’m gonna make it on my own It’s like girl no you’re gonna bully your friends into giving you the money Soo awful not a good person
@joelsnyder5866 I was so shocked she ripped the check up then went onto speak negatively of Big like he didn't do her that massive favor. Men these days would never save a woman for such an amount and wouldnt let a woman forget the favor
This makes my blood boil 😡 she wasn’t scared to loose her friend Charlotte by asking her for money, even DEMANDING the money from her 😡 but at the same time she COWARDLY ripped the check because she doesn’t want to be annoying or needy in the eyes of her man (who wouldn’t even notice if she will use the check he so rich, also he OFFERED her those money) 😡 Carrie makes me maddddddd
Charlotte’s better than me because I would’ve told Carrie to get the fuck out of my apartment talkin’ all of that nonsense. It’s not Charlotte or anybody else’s job to fix her financial problems, it’s Carrie’s.
YES. I WISH SHE WOULD'VE KICKED HER OUT AND TOLD HER TO NEVER COME BACK. How dare she speak to her like that in her own home. Char had a successful career as an art dealer and was educated. She wasnt irresponsible with her money or dating life like carrieDq
I swear those rumors of the SATC girls being all parts of the same woman are true. 😂 there is NO way Carrie could be that self obsessed and insane! She was always all about Carrie! I think she represents the selfish part of ourselves, Charlotte represents the dreamer part, Samantha the seductive but vulnerable part of us, and Miranda the Empowered and neurotic part of us.
@@niabelizaire3596 I would have teleported to the bank immediately. Especially since up til that point he costed her so much. Yes she shared in that but he played around with her so much.
Carrie was definitely jealous of Charlotte’s wealth and WASP background. Both of them were hopeless romantics and idealists but Charlotte owned hers more. Carrie wanted the money and access Charlotte and Big had without adhering to the social etiquette required in high society.
Maybe she felt like if she had Charlotte's background Big would've committed to her. Natasha and Charlotte had a lot of similarities if you think about it
@@radhiadeedou8286 I totally agree! Charlotte, Natasha, and Big spoke the same language when it came to high society. It made me think about the episode when Big took Carrie to a high society event. Carrie immediately became insecure, threw a tantrum, and started smoking in the host’s house which was disrespectful. If Charlotte was his date, everything would’ve went smoothly. I think Big would’ve been comfortable introducing Charlotte to his mother over Carrie. In addition, he would’ve brought Charlotte around his friends regularly.
Not to mention, Big would have probably gone after Charlotte if he had met her first. She's totally his type: a beautiful, classy brunette that is excellent eye-candy in his arm.
I always felt like this. She didn't know how to conduct herself and carry herself with class. Look how she stalked Natasha and disrespected her. Look how she cheated on Aiden then kiased aiden when she was married to Big in the movie. She's allover the place and wasn't responsible. The friends were always helpful towards her and its sad she bullied Charlotte this way. Char owed her NOTHING.
I'm literally on this episode right now. I can't STAND Carrie, she's so damn annoying. I wish Aiden never gave her another chance, she didn't deserve his forgiveness. Especially after shoehorning Big into his life. She was selfish AF the entire series. And you're so right, Samantha coddled Carrie way too much and enabled so much of her shitty behavior. Miranda was the best, she told it to her like it was.
When she told him that she couldn't cut Big off AFTER she had a whole affair with this man on HIM, I knew she never loved him and only liked using people for what she could get out of them. she's one of those people who don't respect nice or genuine people because she only knows toxicity
I hate how she dismissed Charlotte when Charlotte brought up how money tore apart her father and his friend’s friendship and then inserted herself like she was more important than HER OWN FATHER.. all she thought about was Carrie, she was extremely irresponsible and thought it was okay because no one actually had a conversation with her about her behavior and the damage she would cause
Okay, because I thought it was just me who felt she was out of line when she interrupted Charlotte speaking about her father. She was so self absorbed.
The girls treated each other like family and majority of times prioritized each other over anyone else on the show so I can see where Carrie got that idea idk…
@@bill3487 So she got the idea that she would be ABOVE her father because they treated eachother like family ? Yeah, no I don’t think so. I have friends I’ve grown up with like family and I have never felt entitled to their money. Nor have I gone around trying to guilt people into paying for my things as a grown adult woman so if you get that idea it’s because you’re entitled and no one has ever checked you for it. I wouldn’t even expect my family to just give up and give me $30,000
@@Princessdollamanda I mean Carrie is wrong but they never had boundaries with her. She needed them, they’re there. They often switched their lives around to accommodate her so she was in a place of expecting. To the point where when she was actually told no and hit with reality that she expects everything it threw her for a loop.
Carrie mugged Charlotte in her own home. She was like a gangster demanding money. Charlotte loved her ring and it was beyond selfish to have taken it or ripped it off her finger which is more or less what happened. ‘Give me money or we can no longer be friends’ was the message. It was pretty disgusting but such is life and many people who live beyond their means often expect others to pay for them.
Carrie didn't respect any of her friends and looked down on everyone around her. She didn't deserve her friends, nor did she deserve Aiden. Carrie had a lot of nerve. She certainly was jealous spirited. Pompous yet insecure & always wagging her smokey nicotine finger at everyone. Ugh
Carrie put a guilt trip on Charlotte and she eventually gave in and let Carrie have Trey’s engagement ring. Charlotte should have stood her ground and Carrie shouldn’t have pressured her. Carrie’s entitlement was crazy!
CARRIE should've sold her expensive shoes and taken the reality check that either she finds herself a better paying job or she stops spending more than she can afford.... Maybe that's what would've happened if Charlotte hadn't given in to Carries guilt trip (doubt it though) but Charlotte was too nice.
@@brendamoon2660right. Charlotte didn't waste her own money on that expensive ring like Carrie did with her shoes. It was a gift... like the money Big offered her. Carrie was a menace
It's not that Carrie doesn't have the right to express her feelings, it's _how_ she chooses to express them. There's a difference between saying you're upset and straight up yelling at your friend for your own mistakes. This is when Carrie's entitlement shows - she doesn't ask for help, she demands it. Thanks for the video!
-Blows $40,000 on designer shoes (to say nothing of handbags, clothes, cabs, all the restaurant/deli meals, cocktails, etc.) -Refuses Big's cheque (because she's a "feminist" and is offended at the mere idea of a man trying to help her out of good will) -Sweet, gorgeous fiancé (on whom she cheated) also tries to help; is rebuffed -Two of her friends offer to help; both are refused -The one friend who is in no way obligated to sort out her financial mess is manipulated to help -Carrie never returned said friend's money For the protagonist of a series she sure is insufferable. 😂😅
@@oneshotonehit6731 Agreed. Feelings are valid but it doesn’t always mean the reaction is. Just because she doesn’t like the boundary Charlotte is setting doesn’t mean she gets to treat her friends that way.
Carrie is so detached from reality it’s almost concerning. And when you mentioned Samantha enabled Carrie, I was literally like “ALL of them enabled Carrie?” Miranda was the only one who gave her a daily dose of reality check and even then she still folded.
No Charlotte didn’t enable Carrie. She was a hopeless romantic and loved the thought of her friends being in love. But she wasn’t for the mess. Remember when she checked Carrie for having an affair with Big while he was married to Natasha. Samantha was the only one that really encouraged Carrie’s behavior but it was because she is vain and essentially looked at men as objects so she found nothing wrong with Carrie being vain and treating men like crap
TRUE. And the reason Miranda folded was because SHE was scared of losing Carrie as a friend because she knew she had a personality that came off as somewhat abrasive to people who didn't have the same type of personality, i.e., independent (as it relates to a woman not needing a man/ sarcastic, & she was closer to Carrie than Charlotte & Samantha, & with her having no female friends outside of them, she was always afraid she would have no friends if she stood on her square & pissed Carrie off bad enough cuz Carrie is 1 of those friends who is in love with you UNTIL ☝🏾 you tell her about her a$s & remind her that her 💩 reeks just like everyone elses!
idk why she ripped up Big's check. The only reason she needed to buy her apartment is bc she cheated on Aiden with Big and ruined her relationship. The least Big could do is give her money to get her life back, which he does, and she rejects it? Like....?
That's why you tell people nothing about you: not your hopes and dreams, not your goals, not your plans, not how much debt you have and definitely not how much money you have.
I think it's normal to feel jealous, but we should never act on it. You can feel insecure, jealous or envious but these emotions should be used as stepstones to improve yourself and not to hurt others.
@@audrablue515 You're right, but the thing is, it notices. My mom is definitely a Carrie and she would notice even if I'm wearing a new pair of socks (and will pucker up because I didn't buy her a pair too). And that's just a small example. People who entertain jaleousy too much in their lives will make a check-up as soon as they lay their eyes on someone who is apparently better off (by apparently I mean sometimes it doesn't require the person is actually in a better position, just that they have something that catches the attention of the envious person).
it adds another layer to Carrie and Charlotte when you analyze what really is the difference between charlotte and Natasha. the characters have a large resemblance and yet it was very easy for Carrie to paint Natasha as a "stick figure" just because she wasn't her friend and had something she wanted. makes me wonder how did they even become friends
I'm guessing Charlotte always did the emotional work in that friendship. Carrie's "glamour" and charisma were her contribution. Charlotte got to be Carrie's +1 at all those fun, downtown parties. Then they fell into a rhythm. 🤷♂️
@@NatzTalk Charlotte did have some other social ties but I think she liked the others bc they were so freeing. Also she was the odd one out in her WASP circles bc she was over 30 and unmarried. She had lunch with her sorority sisters in the Feenemies episode and they all were scandalized by her talking about sex so she couldn't really be herself around her supposed old friends.
Carrie assumed Aiden would what? Be her landlord? The apartment should have been her #1 concern when she and Aiden decided to break up. Big offered her the money. Samantha and Miranda offered her the money. It was outrageous that she punked Charlotte into it despite 3 other people solving her problem. Carrie had zero character development and we’ve been watching the last 20 years of her life.
I had a friend just like Carrie who I cut off last year. me and my friends were all going on vacation to Aruba and we all purchased our tickets, paid for the room and everything, now we had been planning this vacation for months so she would have time to save up, she would spend thousands on clothes and shoes and actually had a good paying job so we knew she could afford it. but she was always trying to flex on the gram and living above her means. So fast forward we all get to Aruba and my other best friend had paid for her portion of the hotel because it was a discount going on at the time, so she told her she'd pay for it and just give her the money. we get to Aruba and this girl only has $250!!! and had the nerve to want us to pay for her food, the excursions and everything else-because she had to pay rent that month- Girl we were planning this trip for 4 months!!! her and my best friend almost got into a fist fight because she didn't want to give her back the $500. She had a suitcase filled with designer and only bought $250 for A WEEK vacay! she made the first few days of that trip awful, she would do things like that often too, but not to this extent and that's when I cut her off
Girlllllllll you will learn who your friends really are when you travel together. they will always show their true colors. That was so selfish of her and then to get mad because she owes someone money that’s narcissistic behavior
I can’t believe she even brought her broke ass on the trip and then expected everybody to pay for her food when she should’ve saved up in the first place. How selfish and irresponsible.
@@niabelizaire3596 Listen when she told us, me and my 2 other friends looked at each other in disbelief and when I asked her how she only came with $250? she got defensive, talking about her rent and car payments and the crazy thing is she makes 80k a year! but her lifestyle is of that who makes 200k and she doesn't have children, none of us do so we couldn't understand HOW she didn't have the funds (well I mean I can because she was paying almost $5,000 for a 2 bedroom) but when I reflect it makes me think she was just trying to get a free vacation off of us, which is why before I cut her off I let her have it
Remind me of a friend I had we went on a cruise and she basically made a whole fit about us not helping her pay when she knew a lot of this was coming out of my parents graduation gift it was really embarrassing. She publicly embarrassed me saying a real friend would help her out in front strangers like I didn't use my emergency credit card to pay for her ticket and meal package. Never paid me back because my parents have it like that 😮
I use to be Carrie back in college. I wasn’t in a lot of debt like her but I did complain a lot and I projected my trauma on to my family and friends. I went to therapy and I will never forget that my therapist told me that it’s not right for me to project my issues on to my loved ones. It’s up to me to heal. I’m still in the healing process but I turned my life around and now I’m engaged and I’m getting married now.
Hey! Good for you! The old me saw carry and aspired to be like her…the new me can see how Carrie needs a wake up call. It’s so nice to see what about yourself needs to be changed.
Sex in the city is 30+ year olds whom haven't had therapy or no inner work. Very immature behavior from start to finish. And as we get older we don't like the show because that initial bliss of cute clothes and money isn't realistic but it's extreme one way or another. It's quite negative and pisses us off now. 😂😂😂😂
I know. I'm 48 now and I watched this show when I was like 21. I thought that's how adults were. I tried to rewatch it and it's definitely different with an adult lens.
@@TheHeatInColorPodcast I first watched this show in middle school - I recently rewatched (mid-30s) and oh my goodness it did NOT age well. I didn’t even like Carrie when I was a middle school girl. I was always team Charlotte when Miranda is the one with her shit most together. Carrie is awful.
Anyone who asks you to “borrow” money will not be paying it back. Live by those words. Do not lend anything you need back, ever. Also don’t co-sign for anyone but kids.
Always thought Carrie should listen to Dave Ramsey. Dave says regarding co-signing .... the lender is saying this person can not afford this loan so we want someone else (YOU) around to go after when they don't pay back their money.
Idk. I wouldn't co sign nothing with carrie either but in certain situations I have no problem. The way credit scores in the US work sometimes really financially secure people are one auto-pay error away from being denied 😅 (happened to me. Wouldn't be a big deal but my house burned down and I needed a loan so I could get a place to live)
I remember when carrie got that huge advance from her book selling overseas and then she immediately goes on a shopping spree. i remember thinking "don't you owe charlotte 30,000?"
I used to love Carrie, because I felt she was sweet and caring but when I was rewatched and listened to you speak about her behavior, it completely changed my view of her. She was very needy, sometimes condescending and would look down on some of the girls sometimes. They all had their issues, but one thing they had in order was their finances and being responsible. Charlotte ruffled Carries feathers because she wished she had what Charlotte had, and it was very obvious. She would always throw little slick digs at her and that usually comes from envy and no one wants a person with that energy around. Wishing that they had what you did and holding bad energy
@@leiiib This! Whenever the girls talked about their theories on love and relationships, Carrie would shoot down Charlotte’s point of view. Charlotte stood firm in her belief in love and adjusted her approach achieving the results she wanted. Whereas Carrie tried whatever stuck for the time being. She never truly learned from her dating experiences.
Carrie does the same for her friend with the baby shower too. It’s not the host job to replace stolen items. Carrie could have asked for a bag to carry the shoes in too if she had told the host they were expensive. It’s pretty normal to take off shoes if host asks so she should not have acted like it was unusual. And invite people to your birthday party if you want them to give you gifts (she did not invite her to the 35th birthday for example). I get she had given wedding and baby shower gifts but she wasn’t forced to attend those parties or give expensive gifts. If she wanted gifts host your own party and not send a note that you love yourself and expect money.
I dont like the way she treated Charlotte and how she always felt the need to down talk her, even the way she treated her in the SATC 2 movie. she was always jealous of her. Charlotte didn't owe her a damn thing. I think if it were Miranda or Samantha who needed it, she would have given it because she knew that they were responsible. She popped up to Charlotte's house like Charlotte owed her money, I would've cursed her out and then did her like Martin. GETT THAAA STEPPPINNN lmao
Toxic and dysfunctional women control other women through shaming. Carrie was jealous and insecure about Charlotte's standing in her life and even though her and Trey didn't work out, he made sure she was taken care of. Carrie was accepting bad Chinese restaurant dates and hookups wherever Big wanted. And after everything imploded with Aiden, she's back on her knees begging Big to rescue her with crumbs because 40k is nothing to him. He'll toss her the coins and still won't commit to her. He would rather give her 40k than give her a ring and a commitment and she resents Charlotte for reminding her of that every time she had the old engagement ring, the million dollar prenup settlement and a Park Avenue apartment. So of course Carrie is going to target Charlotte because Charlotte, even divorced has everything Carrie wants and doesn't even have to work. It's also very symbolic that Carrie singled out her engagement ring when it came to talk about money. A check from Charlotte wasn't good enough. She wanted the ring. So she sticks it to her instead of cashing a pain and suffering check from Big. It's crazy how Miranda said don't cash it because it gives him power, but Carrie was the one who was begging him for help. He already had it and Carrie had no problem with that.
Samantha WAS the soul of Sex and the City. She embodied everything the show was supposed to be about and was ALWAYS the best friend of the group, even when the other 3 judged her, she always had her back.
Omg facts there is no one more insufferable than people who make their struggles their personality or speak down on people who are taken care of by their parents or husbands, they are so miserable and unpleasant to be around. Rewatching this show I don't like Carrie. I've met so many people like her, mainly in the work environment who lack accountability and when they know they're wrong they turn on the water works and try to get people to feel sorry for them and that's what she did with Aiden and others
Also the way she sneered about Charlotte getting an apartment in the settlement- Charlotte chose a good man and so she was taken care after divorce. She and Trey were sadly not compatible but he still had love and respect for her even after divorce. Because she chose a good man. Which is a stark contrast to Steve, who Carrie pushed onto Miranda, who turned fucking vicious onto her the moment she didn't want to be his bangmaid anymore.
@@lulupomegranate you said everything that needed to be said, she was jealous because Big didn't show that same love towards her and that she had to chase him
Just had an idea: what if Carrie JUST SELLS THE SHOES. She might not get the 40 grand for them, but still, that could be a considerable sum. Maybe she even starts her website where she sells second hand designer stuff, Carrie's Closet or something. This way she gets the downpayment AND starts a potentially fruitful business. Maybe even mentions it in her column. This situation could be spun in such a different direction, becoming a starting point of a new chapter. Instead she goes into debt and almost ruins a frienship. Are those shoes really worth it?🤔
8:19 Charlotte should have been like "First of all, get your broke-ass finger out of my face. Second of all, you don't march into MY HOUSE and bark orders at ME. GTFO!"
The way Carrie treated Aidan really showcased her victim mentality, tendency to self-sabotage and incapability to admit fault. It was honestly heartbreaking to see him offer himself up to her so sincerely and have her step all over him over and over again. Disappointing that they ended up dating again in the reboot 🙄
I LOVE that you've addressed this toxic behavior that, unfortunately, has always been present throughout the show. I remember cringe-watching the reruns and seething at her audacity.
My hot take is Sex and The City was lowkey a bad influence on a lot of women who saw the characters as “goals.” Speaking as someone whose mother was addicted to this show lol ❤😂
I never watched the show but knew enough about it to know I didn't want to watch it. I was dating back when the show was on and a lot of guys asked me if the show was a true depiction of what women were like. Each time, it was a resounding "NO!" LOL
@@audrablue515 That part lol!! I would’ve hated to watch it while dating. I really think the show unfortunately made a lot of women feel bad and insecure about themselves. But I also recognize that it was a product of its time 😩
Oh yes , it is . Carrie was set up to be this aspirational woman which she wasn't. Miranda was taken down a few notches with the Steve issue because HOW DARE a woman be self made and have pride🫣 !! Same with Charlotte, she was shown as shallow when she was the one who sacrificed so much for a relationship😕. I can only look up to Samantha , except a few times when she acts like objectifying people and being objectified is okay .🤦
@@Some_guy_passing_by Exactly!! And my mom really believed 100% (literally) of everything the show said. If a character was 'punished' for having pride, she would immediately put herself down in response to avoid becoming a 'prideful woman' like the characters supposedly were. The show made her so insecure.
Yes it was...I watched it in my early twenties. And when the movie came out there was a whole girlsnight at the cinema. Full of women eating it all up. Me and my best friend at the time would compare our shit "relationships" with Carrie's with Big and romantisizing it and thinking it would all get better. Now as a 44 year old I thankfully know better and find Carrie annoying and would slap anybody acting like her😂
Even look at all of Carrie's friends they were all rich successful women except her...that why she never wanted to let mr big go it was her way of fitting in with her weathly friends without actually working for it.
I found it so frustrating that they never addressed this issue again in later episodes. They never mentioned if she payed Charlote back. Even when she got the vogue job, or the book deal, even when her book was a bestseller in France and she got a big check. All they showed us is her spending the money shopping designer clothes and shoes
Carrie is sooooo draining and spoiled and any time Miranda was being real she would ignore her advice or lash out on her and then go to Samantha to hear what she wanted to hear. Charlotte was the only one who called her out about her affair while the others ooh-ed and aaa-hed and she was definitely jealous of Charlotte (who I can't wait for you to do a video on) because of Charlotte's lifestyle and upbringing, I had to cut off 2 friends once I got married, which was last year, because I now WFH and my husband takes care of me. They would make comments like Carrie as if I didn't go to school and obtain 2 degrees and work at my job for 5 years and establish my own career 🙄The only difference is I'm just not drained and overworking myself anymore, but they were always like that because when I would call my dad for money or to help me with something they would make comments about me being " a spoiled daddy's girl" and "why do you always have to call your dad" , just because your father is absent doesn't mean you get to take your frustrations and jealousy out on others, get some therapy. Sometimes it's not you that changes, it's the people around you because they don't like that you're happy and growing.
This is exactly what I faced too, I left a job that was 72 hours a week and high stress when I got married. I started to work from home as a romance novelist and my husband is the main bread winner and told me to put my mental health first. My now former friend had a fit! Telling me that I was "leeching off a sugar daddy"...erm that's my hard working loving husband who's supporting my health and wellbeing. The jealousy was dripping from every word and I wanted no part of that in my life.
@@Katie_Woo Wow, how na sty of her to say something like that to you. That's not a friend (I had to learn that myself) she just liked being your friend because she felt like you were both on the same level before and now that you're doing beautifully and are being loved on and taken care of, she's jealous. To not be happy that your friend is happy is so 🗑. I wish you nothing but blessings, more love and happiness in your marriage 🫶🏾
NOBODY of those friends checked carrie on ANYTHING exp Charlotte - about being a sidechick, no borrow of money. Carrie hated people telling her truths AND she got friends that would never YAY
I think Miranda would clock Carrie's tea from time to time. But I feel that the writer's would pick and choose when they wanted Miranda to hold Carrie accountable.
Miranda checked her at least once about Big but then Carrie went straight for the jugular. I think part of the reason they usually don't check her is because she lashes out VICIOUSLY in response. Hell, she literally made Charlotte CRY in the second movie.
Not only was Carrie envious of Charlotte, I feel like she was envious of Samantha as well. I remember the first time I watched SATC. In narration, Carrie said Miranda’s name more than any other character.
There is nothinggg I mean nothinggg more draining than a person who is always talking about how hard they had/have it. ALWAYS looking for sympathy, I grew up in the hood and I wasn't rich, but my parents made sure we had. When I got older, I made friends from all backgrounds, people whose parents are millionaires, they had butlers and nannies as children and i've never been resentful or jealous because I know their parents worked hard to provide that for them and I would do the same for my children. Charlotte was a sweetheart, and she was judgmental sometimes because her upbringing was different, but she never looked down on people and Carrie is one of those people with an inferior complex and people who like her are the same way
You're the friend I wish I had when I was younger - I loved the SATC series but going back and re-watching I couldn't help but notice Carrie's immaturity throughout the series!
She was not secretly jealous of Charlotte, she was blatantly jealous of Charlotte. Whenever Charlotte had problems, she'd laugh, but whenever Charlotte was somehow sucessfull, Carrie would find some problem with Charlotte's happiness or judge her. When Charlotte got pissed to know Carrie was cheating on Aidan (because finally Carrie had someone who loved her but threw it away to run after an elderly fuckboy) she got sad at Charlotte's judgment. And then, the money thing happened. Carrie always got Charlotte for fool because she admitted she wanted marriage and kids, while Carrie thought she was too cool for a traditional life, when deep inside she also wanted a to "save" her just as Charlotte had said seasons before.
Big gave her the money. The problem was solved. Yet she is mad that Charlotte didn’t give her the money after watching her rip up that check! It’s not like she needed an extra thousand after selling all of her shoes!! This is why I never understood people’s love of this show. Carrie was a horrible person, all the way around. Also Miranda saying “If she takes the money she gives him control.” Well isn’t that what happened when Aidan bought the apartment??? I don’t remember this little lecture back then.
This whole thing made me so mad. Carrie literally spent every penny she had on designer shoes and then expected her friend to bail her out. The older I get, the more I realise Charlotte was the best one. She has the most self-esteem and the strongest boundaries. Carrie was a selfish mess and Miranda was just a horrible shrew with low self-esteem and both of them had chronic attachment issues.
And Samantha is an enabler like the video said. Many seem to love her because “she doesn’t judge” which she said in context of Carrie cheating Aidan, well sometimes you should (like Charlotte did when she found out). She does also judge people who are less sexual than her all the time, even if not to their face usually. And she is a hedonist, she doesn’t need to have family or husband, but she doesn’t really have much she lives for beyond her pleasures. To me it made sense she left in the new series, if she doesn’t feel like the friendships are giving her enough she would “choose myself” like she did with Smith. Friendships aren’t different from romantic relationships fundamentally if we talk of how to get over arguments.
I loved your take on why she should have taken the money Big gave her like that was some extreme pick me behavior cuz that man put you through hell and when he offered you compensation for your pain & suffering you turned it down??!
Samantha and Miranda struck me as self made women while Charlie was old money. Carrie has a nouveau riche attitude but lives paycheck to paycheck.. champagne taste.
I used to think Carrie was the best of the four, but now I know Charlotte and Miranda were the best. And Samantha was empowering and amazing in her own right. I just don't approve of that much casual sex.
THANK YOU for saying Carrey is stupid for not taking bigs money. That’s the real problem. That’s her bf! Take the money! I felt like that was programming for women back in the day. She could have taken it and kept that to herself if I really bothered her
Not only was she financially messy but she cheats on Aidan with a married man and still let him buy the place. Did she just expect him to let her have it? She just walks all over people Also when confronted with the idea of selling her shoes, she refuses. But she thinks it’s okay to get her friend to sell something of hers to pay off her debt? Oh hell no. I would have ended the friendship right there
I find Carrie and Issa Dee from Insecure to be similar in the way they expect their friends to be there for them in the way they want their friends to be without having to reciprocate the same effort. In SATC series, Carrie expected Charolette to offer her the money. But when Samantha needed Carrie as a client in AJLT, she refused to continue paying Samantha and justified her decision by saying she couldn’t afford it even though she and Big were financially stable. Not to mention Samantha helped her sell her book. Similarly Issa Dee depends on her friends especially Molly to help her with her circumstances: paying for dinners, brunch, listening and giving advice, offering emotional support, volunteering, offering her a place to stay, donating to racist We Got Ya’lletc. But when Molly wanted Issa to support her while she dated Andrew Issa wasn’t as invested. She was quick to blame Molly’s habits rather than listen to her friend’s concern. No one is saying Issa is a bad friend but she had her moments.
Well, Molly definitely had some waysssssss about her, smh…I think she was jealous when Issa started doing better for herself because Issa didn’t need her as much anymore
I think my spirit never allowed me to watch tv shows such as girlfriends or sex in the city. Now? I see why. Carrie seems exhausting and when I kept seeing reviews on the show how she kept going back to BIG; I would've dropped her so quick with the same tired storyline.
@@justjamal3653 that would be a good spinoff Sex and the city streets. Where Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda live out their lives. While Carrie deals with the consequences of her actions. Adds a whole new vibe to the story.
Offered?! Girl you don't have a 30 thousand dollar emergency fund to give any friend. But Carrie knew Charlotte was good for it and she's angry that Charlotte didn't offer up her engagement ring sooner. I wish fans called this scene out more. Charlotte is allowed to keep that ring just as much as her married name. Charlotte comes from that world and she's more than likely seen what money can do to people. This is why in reality its very difficult, near impossible to maintain these kinds of friendships.
SMH. You see, this is one of the main reasons why I never liked the show and its main character, Carrie Bradshaw. I always found her annoying, fickle, and unscrupulous. I know that she's the type of character who aspires to be wealthy and influential, much like some people who kind of used her as an avatar to live vicariously through. But, the things she has done and the way she treats people, even her own friends, are reprehensible. I don't care that she is quirky and expresses herself. She is extremely unlikable and toxic. This situation solidifies that she is just a TERRIBLE FRIEND AND A TERRIBLE PERSON. The way she treated Charlotte is ATROCIOUS. Charlotte doesn't owe her anything. It's not Charlotte's fault that Carrie is financially irresponsible and has horrendous spending habits. Not to mention, Samantha and Miranda were willing to help Carrie by giving her money. But, Carrie specifically singled out and targeted Charlotte. There's no way that she wasn't jealous of Charlotte in some capacity. No way. As someone else had mentioned, ironically, despite being born into wealth and growing up privileged, Charlotte is a normal, kind-hearted, and sensible person. Whereas Carrie, who grew up in the middle class, is a very materialistic, shallow, and vapid person. This is also probably why Carrie despised Natasha, Big's first wife. Like Charlotte, Natasha came from a wealthy and privileged background. Yet, she seems like a normal, lovely person. Other than being the woman that Big initially chose to marry, Natasha represented everything Carrie isn't, and Carrie was threatened by her for these very reasons. Carrie is clearly jealous and resentful of both Charlotte and Natasha due to their affluent backgrounds, yet they've been nothing but nice and gracious to her. In real life, Charlotte, and for that matter, Samantha and Miranda, would've gotten tired of Carrie's BS, and cut ties with her. Nobody has time to deal with individuals like Carrie. These types of people mentally, psychologically, and emotionally drain people.
@@GabreyaB1990 The girls did collectively get tired of her complaining about Big the first time they broke up and sent her to therapy. She messed up as usual and went back to using her friends (who pointed out they couldn't help because they had their own problems) as free therapy.
It’s so funny when you rewatch a show you loved years before. You realize how the villains weren’t always wrong, the hero wasn’t always good or right and side characters were more interesting than you remember.
This is why I laugh at people who try to shame people who are childless and free, because they lowkey have resentment and jealousy for women who don't have their responsibilities and that we can get up and do whatever we want, whenever we want and try to guilt you into being their nanny, bank or assistance helping from time to time is okay but you had those children, so you take care of them. Glad you put your boundaries and didn't let her manip ulate you
I have an aunt who feels so entitled to things cuz she’s a serial baby mama. She’s mad that I don’t watch her kids ma’am I have one child why would I want to be bothered with more. Then don’t get me started on how me and my grandpa had to pay for her kids fair day cuz she came with no money but 3 kids.
This speaks to me. I've been told by many people that I was "born with a si;ver spoon in my mouth." We came to Canada as refugees from Russia and established a new life here in NA. True friends will see the sacrifices you make along the way, fake friends will always assume you had it easy just because you try to look put together.
Growing up, people always responded to my dislike of Carrie as her being realistically selfish but I feel like this is not relatable to a normal, non-neurotic 30-something? Why does she make terrible decisions to an unrealistic degree? Maybe I was too harsh but I did not and do not like her all that much for how self-absorbed she is
shes 35years old... can't do the math to figure out that 400 x 100= 40000, can't kept the place she LIVES in, and couldve easily used a rich man's change to pay off her debt but rather use her friends (WHO SHE WAS MOH FOR???) engagement ring to pay off her debt? MISS MAAM GIRL
@@pandabubu101 And her apartment was rent controlled at only $750 a month in New York. A place that size anywhere else in that area would've been like 3k-5k a month.
It's so funny that Samantha was the enabler in the show for her friends, esp. Carrie, when in real life the actresses could not stand each other privately. That's actually a talent to play bffs on screen
Carrie was so insane for this. First off. She doesn’t need to explain why she didn’t offer it to you! You are not entitled to that! Second how freaking dare she barge into Charlotte’s home and judge her for still wearing her ring! It’s HER RING! If she wants to wear it she can!
Carrie is the biggest op…if she wasn’t making jealous slights toward Charlotte, she was slut shaming Samantha or she teasing Miranda for her (at the time) being progressive. SJP is a true life mean girl and she was essentially playing herself. Of course hopefully she isn’t as frivolous as Carrie. It’s no wonder Kim didn’t wanna reprise her role as Samantha
Charlotte should have made herself a nice pair of earrings or necklace from that ring, I Iove my friends, but Carrie's ass would have had to move LOL. You can't make your lack of planning my emergency.
It is only control if he places conditions. She should have taken the money and paid Aiden for the one bedroom apartment. Charlotte is not responsible for her friend to be financially irresponsible.
@ 9:30 Carries is in 35 ?!? Holy crap, I've never watched the show, just clips on TH-cam. I always assumed she was in her 20's becuase she's depicted as being so reckless and short sighted. It reeks of immaturity.
Charlotte was reasonably afraid Carrie wouldn't pay back like her father's friend Paul, and their friendship would not only end but somehow collapse the rest of the friend group. Also I'm sure Charlotte saw her envy and entitlement to her money, she had every reason to believe Carrie would take her on the offer unlike what she admitted to her face that she would decline it
I really didn't like carrie in this episode she acted like a teenager to me she should had taken the check big gave her instead of being disrespectful towards Charlotte i wished Charlotte hadn't given in and decided to help carrie i wouldn't have and yes money does ruin relationships with family and friends i know this very well
Going to Charlotte's apartment and going off like that in a woman's own house is a sign of total disrespect. If I was Charlotte I would have done 2 things: 1. Tell her to leave the apartment ASAP and keeping the contact ONLY with the other women during lunches and gatherings but NEVER again 1-1 or 2. Let Carry rant, give her some money and NEVER speak or see her again. All of this would be dependent on the fact if I still felt the friend group as a whole was (still) adding something to my life. The fact that she still hung out with them in AJLT kind of surprised me!
Thank you so much for this video. Because everything you said was spot on. I really enjoyed the show but I hated Carrie and found her so delusional. Obnoxious , self centered and irresponsible. She was never caring. She always centered herself and thought she was special and didn’t truly value those around her. Miranda and occasionally Charlotte were the only ones who called her out and somehow even though they were right they would end up apologising to Carrie and she would get what she wanted.
My pragmatic soul would have KEPT the check, SOLD a bunch of stuff, and REORGANIZED my closet and my finances. Then I would have REPAID the loan (eventually) and declared my independence. Carrie was behaving like a teenager. Remember in Season 1 when she tossed all her unopened bills in the trash? She hasn't grown at all since then.
I have been living with severe depression since 2019 without any emotional support from my family and furthermore I recently found out I have BPD. Everyday is a struggle, I am always tired and anxious, but try to work as much I can, and pay for my therapy, the rent for a room, (not flat), taxes etc. I am still not able to make as much money I would need to have savings, and it makes me sad and disappointed, that none of my friends who are financially very stable offered money to help me. I wouldn't accept it, because I dont know when can I pay it back, but I really missed the gesture.
Both Miranda and Samantha said “I don’t” but she Carrie only argues with Charlotte. I think jealousy, specially on desesperate times,is a normal human emotion, even towards someone you love but what’s not okay is outright demanding them to fix those insecurities instead of yourself. She could have asked for money and suck it up if Charlotte said no but demand Charlotte to give her the money it’s just a new level of entitlement
Money and friends and family don't mix. Never lend what you are not prepared/ able to give. This has been my motto for many years now (since first seeing this episode, actually) and has saved a lot of drama.
Carrie is insufferable and selfish the whole series. Treated Aidan like crap. How dare she confront Charlotte about her money? Argh, she pisses me off, she always acting like a victim
as someone who has been financially irresponsible in the past and finally getting my financial life together, Carrie never tried to get her life together, ever AND who asks their friends (no matter how well of they are) for 30K. Thats insane. I was on Charlotte side with this one and I'm on the lower side of the middle class in my friend group.
The crazy thing is, Carrie had an entire apartment filled with designer purses, clothes and shoes. She could've sold her collection and had more than enough to cover the down payment.
That would have been WAY too logical. Why do that? Then she wouldn't be able to hound her friends and still continue her bad behavior.
This!
I’m not sure if consignment was as lucrative then as it is today. It was still foolish of her to spend her money on designer clothes/shoes.
EXACTLY! No one ever talks about how Carrie was saved from herself and *never* learned the lesson. She EASILY could have paid for it herself but she's ridiculous.
I had the same thought!
Carrie saying she would have offered the money to Charlotte if Charlotte was in need is laughable. Ma'am, you DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO OFFER!

It's not that Carrie doesn't have the right to express her feelings, it's _how_ she chooses to express them.

Sweet and caring? LMAO Wheeeeeeen?
@@RosieSquall Girl I was in my late teens 😂😂😂 lmao I’m grown grown now so I definitely see through her BS
@ I disagree. Carrie’s “friend” made her take off her shoes just for them to be stolen at the host’s home. She owed Carrie.
No wonder money and friendship don't mix
Yes indeed it don't mix
0:22 She got so obsessed with her shoe collection that she couldn't even afford to buy a slip for that dress.
Say it again!
I am going through this NOW!
Women like that never grow-up. They’re to self absorbed.
Carrie is a classic example of living beyond your means.
Especially when when big stood Carrie up on their wedding day and how charlotte held her down.
That’s why Samantha is the best. She carried the show on her back.
She should’ve had a spin off
Samantha WAS the soul of Sex and the City. She embodied everything the show was supposed to be about and was ALWAYS the best friend of the group, even when the other 3 judged her, she always had her back.
Yessss and even tho she was a little promiscuous she still kept it classy. I like Miranda too until she got pregnant
Are those shoes really worth it?🤔
@@qualinseler I like the way you think! You’d be a better writer than the ones they have for AJLT

😂😂😂😂 Broke-ass finger!!!!???
That made me holler!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The way Carrie treated Aidan really showcased her victim mentality, tendency to self-sabotage and incapability to admit fault. It was honestly heartbreaking to see him offer himself up to her so sincerely and have her step all over him over and over again. Disappointing that they ended up dating again in the reboot 🙄
Carrie made so many decisions that pissed me off especially during this episode…
Carrie was bold as hell goin to Charlotte like that
I found it so frustrating that they never addressed this issue again in later episodes.
And when the girls told Carrie to stop talking about Big and go see a shrink, she got mad. Like girl, don’t nobody wanna hear about that motherfucker.
Miranda warned Carrie about Big and the Russian.
@@mordecaiissad8529 None as poorly as Carrie though.
Not only was Carrie envious of Charlotte, I feel like she was envious of Samantha as well. I remember the first time I watched SATC. In narration, Carrie said Miranda’s name more than any other character.
So Carrie can cheat with a married man but asking that SAME man for money is where she draws the line? Gurl bye🤣
Exactly 🤣🤣🤣 such an u serious candidate
There is nothinggg I mean nothinggg more draining than a person who is always talking about how hard they had/have it. ALWAYS looking for sympathy, I grew up in the hood and I wasn't rich, but my parents made sure we had. When I got older, I made friends from all backgrounds, people whose parents are millionaires, they had butlers and nannies as children and i've never been resentful or jealous because I know their parents worked hard to provide that for them and I would do the same for my children. Charlotte was a sweetheart, and she was judgmental sometimes because her upbringing was different, but she never looked down on people and Carrie is one of those people with an inferior complex and people who like her are the same way
Its INSANE she guilt tripped Charlotte into giving her the money when Samantha and Miranda said they'd help!
“elderly fuckboy” lmao👌🏼😭🎯
Big gave her the money. The problem was solved. Yet she is mad that Charlotte didn’t give her the money after watching her rip up that check! It’s not like she needed an extra thousand after selling all of her shoes!! This is why I never understood people’s love of this show. Carrie was a horrible person, all the way around.
Also Miranda saying “If she takes the money she gives him control.” Well isn’t that what happened when Aidan bought the apartment??? I don’t remember this little lecture back then.
Big had money to spare. He did not use it to take control. Just take the money.
Agree with everything you said! Carrie’s whole personality is being a victim and blames irresponsible behaviour on her just being ‘fun chaotic’
@@sarasamaletdin4574 Samantha did live for her pleasures. Ok for a while but what about a relationship with a man not just sex.
@@g.flesch9731 Well, what's wrong with that? If what you want is the freedom to sleep with whomever you feel like, why seek a relationship?
I'm not loaning a friend 30k. That's not the same as $100.
And Carrie probably never paid it back. 😂
The way I got mad when Charlotte gave her her engagement ring 😠 😡
THANK YOU for saying Carrey is stupid for not taking bigs money.
That’s the real problem. That’s her bf! Take the money! I felt like that was programming for women back in the day. She could have taken it and kept that to herself if I really bothered her
Not only was she financially messy but she cheats on Aidan with a married man and still let him buy the place. Did she just expect him to let her have it? She just walks all over people
Also when confronted with the idea of selling her shoes, she refuses.
Yesss
Issa- Carrie
Molly-Miranda
TIffany-Charlotte
Kelly- Samantha
Well, Molly definitely had some waysssssss about her, smh…I think she was jealous when Issa started doing better for herself because Issa didn’t need her as much anymore

Yes yes and yes!
This is what I’ve told people for years but only now they seem to see that. She was a terrible friend.

my OLDER sister with kids believed that I (young, childless, & free) was suppose to be her personal piggy bank. we are estranged.

Ive have said this ever since I turned 25, maturing is realizing that Carrie was the problem 98% of the time!
Charlotte was reasonably afraid Carrie wouldn't pay back like her father's friend Paul, and their friendship would not only end but somehow collapse the rest of the friend group.
Also I'm sure Charlotte saw her envy and entitlement to her money, she had every reason to believe Carrie would take her on the offer unlike what she admitted to her face that she would decline it
I really didn't like carrie in this episode she acted like a teenager to me she should had taken the check big gave her instead of being disrespectful towards Charlotte i wished Charlotte hadn't given in and decided to help carrie i wouldn't have and yes money does ruin relationships with family and friends i know this very well
Making Aiden host Big at his country house was peak entitlement.

I wouldn't accept it, because I dont know when can I pay it back, but I really missed the gesture.
Carrie is a friend to NONE, that’s why she’s alone
Carrie is the worst, how can these three stand her?
