Just pay attention to the lightning bolts. Once a small one appears, the larger one will follow immediately after that AND (most importantly) in the exact same spot. That's the pattern. Once I realized about that, completing the level was a breeze, I swear.
Imo, DKC3 has a great OST. Like yeah the funny clown sex music (Stilt Village) on the boardwalk level is inherently worse than the first level music in DKC1 and DKC2, but songs such as Mill Fever, Frosty Frolics, Rockface Rumble and Nuts and Bolts are some of my favorite songs in the entire trilogy
I actually think Kong-Fused Cliffs is the worst, in that it's just abysmally designed and unfair in a way no other level is. I remember Rocket Rush was fucking awful as a kid, but I went back to it a few years ago and it wasn't too bad. Kong-Fused Cliffs gives you a safe area of about 30-40% of the screen, vertically, and demands you react instantly to the enemies coming from offscreen.
Vinny letting go of barrels when they were ABOUT to cover him up from lightning in most of the deaths. 28:16 yes Vinny it is perfectly reasonable and cool and good game desing.
Lightning Lookout isn't THAT bad. There's always a tell where the bolt will strike, meaning you have a chance to avoid it. Vinny ploughs through that and a lot of the case of him trying to rush through the situation (though the water area is the only place you have to rush)

But of course, most people who play these games nowadays expect to just blindly run forward and clear everything with ease, instead of attempting to use any actual skill or thought while they play. Still annoys me that he just rushed through part 4 so he could get to Zelda. If he was going to do that he should have waited till after he played Zelda or just not do a part 4

Overall, I liked all 3 quite a bit (I even completed 2 and 3 cuz I liked them enough). So in contrast, seeing people like Vinny clearly dislike a lot more about 3 than the other 2 games is strange. I don’t remember his playthroughs for the first 2 that much, but I definitely don’t recall him getting so frustrated. It just feels unfortunate that the game didn’t click with him very well with him, rather a lot of it just seemed to be him tolerating the game to get it over with. At least it’s fun to watch his reactions to a lot of these deaths though, many of those noises don’t even sound human.
It has BS mechanics because they are as thight as Geometry Dash but they DON'T fit the game where you can see so little of what's coming next, a lot of people don't like memorization of jumps and enemy placement that this game relies on. The reason why people like the Wii DKC is because you can finish levels with pure reaction and skill without much memorization, like the first 2 games.
I’ll never understand why you people cannot figure out how to dodge the lightning in lightning look out. Those pink DK coin guys are easy too. Just stand on them….
