Shrawardine. “It has the Severn running by. Among the thatched and timbered cottages the old Court House stands half-way up the hill. Fortified for the king during the Civil War, the Norman castle surrendered after a five day siege in 1645”. - The Kings England Arthur Mee

I too believe that churches should be open for worship at all reasonable hours, however, closing due to theft and not having the resources to combat this is a valid reason in my opinion. A local church to me closed (except for services) in order to improve anti-theft measures, and now the long term benefit is that they can remain open going forward, which is fantastic.
There is a great app called Keyholder which contains a map/database of churches, pictures, info, etc. In the case of churches being closed, it contains info on who to contact if you wish to get in. Some even reveal locations of keys you can use and return to a safe space.
Love the videos! My family were in Shropshire for several generations so I've always felt a huge connection to the place. Thanks for taking the time to make them. 🙏🏻
It’s sad that these thing happen, and these steps have to be taken.
I’ll look into the app (keyholder) 👍
I’m glad to be able to bring you these videos and hear you’re enjoying them, especially when you’ve got Shropshire blood (I haven’t got any 🤣)
Wonder if any archeological digs have been done at that castle recently. Would probably get a few good finds in there.
The last archaeological digs happened at Shrawardine in 1991 and 1994. Apparently they found signs of further ruins still buried and the outline of the two bailys. I would agree with you, there would probably be many finds.
Great video mate and thanks for the mention as well👍 i just visited two churches with Yew trees, one deceased sadly, have you seen my vid on Yew trees by the way, I recently got into visiting Shropshire over the past couple of years, to my shame it was a place i used to pass through on my way to Wales, i got that wrong hey😅 and ye Shroomery season is on us
Thank you! I found the mushroom video extra interesting so I had to give it a shout. The Yew tree vid is great. I keep meaning to watch it again (and take notes 😂👍 )The shrooms 🍄 .. They never did me any harm 😳 lol
@@thirdratecontent585 The mushroom subject is fascinating isnt it, the Yew is a complicated subject and a bit subjective, especially regarding the Celts and Druid connections, im interested in the micro-dosing theory with the shrooms 🍄
Great video. I love North Shropshire, very quiet
Thank you!
❤❤ geeat upload thank you Dan x
Thank you! 👍
Hi, am local Shrewsbury person here, I have been meaning to check out Shrawardine, but you've done it for me! Thanks 😃
It’s my pleasure, and thank you! 👍
Once again a great informative video Dan, another area I'd never heard of, appreciate the research you do, so much better than someone just walking around filming in silence 👍
Thank you Keith! 👍
Great watch Dan as always have a great Sunday Phil 👍
Thank you Phil! 👍
Love this video Dan! I had no idea there was a castle in Shawrie. Would be great to get one of those LIDAR scanners over the land there to see the original fountains.
Thank you Tyrone! Yes that would be brilliant
Cool Video Dan and very interesting
Thank you Louise 👍
@@thirdratecontent585 You are welcome x
Lovely wee place, the rickety church looked interesting. I can understand why they have to be locked when not in use, but nonetheless, quite sad.
Church doors being closed is sad, so are the reasons they are 👍
Probably costs issue re keeping churches open, having someone there re security etc.. So many churches being closed and converted, but, the C of E did recently stand up and remind everyone that churches cannot be converted to another faith; it's in their covenants/title deeds I think. (One way of protecting future of such churches would be use of volunteers maybe).
All Valid points 👍
Lots of ghosts and black dogs around Shawradine.
