- Its time we take the BRAND NEW Rivian R1S for a first drive. Rivian has two vehicles right now. A Rivian SUV and a Rivian Truck. Personally I own and drive the Rivian Truck Ive had it for about 6 months and put about 5000 miles on it. This Rivian R1S suv is a loaner vehicle given to me for a few days by Rivian. As someone who went from a like space gray to a burnt orange one, I'm definitely always way more excited walking up to my car because of how amazing the color looks

I really appreciate you putting up metric conversions on screen. It's hard to conceptualize how much something is without Googling it which ruins the experience on a phone/tablet. While I am able to do quick conversions for some things, it gets hard in a rapid fire of stats. Thanks again!

That's cool. I never realized that. I have a Subaru Outback and always wondered where the antenna was. Found it the top of the rear window with an elaborate array of antennas.

no problem, just wrap the vehicle. Can select any colour you want while giving additional paint protection. BTW did you ever do long distance with your R1T...? Did it ever came close to the estimated range..?

Many thanks for the excellent work Jerry. Loving the Rivians just so disappointed they won’t be available in the UK. All they need in addition is one of these supposedly soon available longer range battery packs and you couldn’t want anything more. Colours … remember, if you’re unhappy with colour choice there’s always a wrap. Then any colour or finish is possible. And if you don’t like it just peel back to original
I went with Rivian Blue for my truck and I’m very glad I did. The only other color I would have rather had was Launch Green but blue is very much my personality.
On range. While you’re right that the ATs will reduce range to arond 270ish miles, that’s also in All Purpose mode. I’ve been using Conserve mode for my longer road trips and I’m getting 310-320. I’ve also found that drafting a safe distance behind a semi or RV makes a very large difference on range.
just wondering if you go off roading if theres no charging point to charge the vehicle would be difficult.

So exciting that I'm starting to see Rivians trucks around more and more often. I even spotted a R1S a few weeks ago out in the wild. Colorwise I also saw what I presume was a wrapped R1T in a nice Burgundy color. The nice bright colors definitely being more eyes to them

Both Rivian's are awesome and as Farhan, in the chat said, you can wrap it.
A quality wrap is easily reversible if you change your mind later.
I'm a little bored with white/black/grey/silver too.
I've owned black, white, and silver vehicles for over 30 years. I bought a new vehicle last year that was on order for about 18 months. I originally ordered it in gray, but when I went to test drive one of the dealer's test units, it was a bright orange/yellow. I thought about it a few days and then changed my order to the orange/yellow. I've owned it for just over a year now and I love it. It is just a vibrant, happy color.
I'm glad to hear you are happy with it. There's likely a vibrant color and then there is going outside the norm and owning it.

Love to see your perspective on Rivian vehicles; hope they do well as a company. I would love to own an R1S but it cost more than I wanted to spend. Ended up getting a Tesla Model Y long range and it works perfectly for me. I chose the Deep Blue Metallic which looks great on it, especially after changing the emblems and Tesla logos to Matte Black.
Since the bigger manufacturers don't play in this category yet, hopefully they can established in the market before manufacturers like Honda and Toyota use all of their powers to flood the market with their cars.

It's hard to make a truck that doesn't look better than the Cyber Truck. BTW, after all this time have Tesla actually got started with delivering the CT? I just can't bring up enough interest to try to find out myself. Seems they have the usual Tesla problem of Elon promising the moon yesterday and delivering a toy three years late.

if you have the funds, maybe look into wrapping the R1T a fun color, that way it's reversible if you later decide you don't like it

A wrap is definitely the way I'd go.
Ive thought about a wrap - definitely would be fun - but its also pretty expensive.

I absolutely love the grey-blue color rivian offers. Very subtle, but since I like blue, it adds that extra hit of color that I really like.
a few mistakes in the writing there like the thing about gas powered trucks not having range affected much by offroad tyres instead of road tyres. yeah it does affect just the same. And the rearmost seats you didnt mention the back seats not latching back in to the same position, they go forward a bit when you latch them from behind.meaning the mid row gets less leg room in the scenario you demonstrate. But there are lots of great things about the car, there should be because its over $100k which is a lot of cash. Watch Snazzy labs review, its a bit more detailed and through
He also said the 4runner has the same footprint as this thing. The 4runner is 10 inches shorter in length.
I love those motorless folding rear seats. A lot of new cars use motor to fold or raise the rear seats. Just another useless motor to fail. That and standing there waiting for the motor to fold or raise the seat is irritating.

The aesthetics of Rivian vehicles are awesome! Much more of a clean design than other vehicles.
Good point about color preferences. I would go for the blue or yellow, love both those colors. I have an acid gold (yellow) Aprilia Tuareg and I have my eye on the 20th anniversary Golf R in lapiz blue metallic. Having both those colors in my garage would balance out the black and tan clothes I tend to wear! Too bad I'd have to spend more on marked up MSRP and potentially miss out on tech features due to chip avail. Also I'd hate to see the new model golf r (mk9) be so much better with regards to interior interaction decisions. They went with haptic stuff, no buttons. :(
Another car on my list is Polestar 2 but their colors aren't very vibrant. Although the black performance one with the gold calipers and seat belt is one of the best styles I've seen yet.
Then there's the matter of going electric or staying in a gas car. Electric motorcycles look appealing as well.
Great vid. Gas inefficiency has nothing to do with why the range is longer though. It’s simply because gas is easier to store as energy because you don’t need a battery.

You can wrap the entire vehicle at any color that you want. so if you do it in some of the "Rivian" colors, no body will know that its actual color is white.
Another bonus at this solution, is the fact that you can change your mind later.

I would love to see a real world test. When you read off the manufacturers speculation we all know that's a dream sheet. Real world test on towing and range would be very informative. I would bet they don't or will not allow you to do so. They want a salesman not test results.

Tyler Hoover's video on the F150 lightning says it all, his car lost a large amount of range towing a relatively light load.

I found your initial R1T review and realized you live in a house I was actually looking at when it was still on the market. Nice to see you so close to home. But Also loved the honest reviews of both. I to love the look of the off-road tires but you give a good point on the street tires. I am looking at getting the R1S but it would be for my wife to commute in vs my Taco that I off road in. Something to consider that I didn't before. just wish I would have bought in during the reservation period and saved the $20K

I had my reservation set to El Cap Granite, because I saw it in person and it looks amazing (all of Rivian's colors are amazing, really). But then I had the same thought as you. You only live once. I've owned black, grey, or white cars for most of my life when I had the choice. It's time to shine. I pick up my Rivian Blue R1T on the 5th. Great video!
Wife got her R1T in forest green with forest edge interior. Love the combo. If I were to get a Rivian, S or T, it would be the blue.

Vibrant colors all the way! I'm very happy with my Mazda in Soul Red every time I park and realize literally every other vehicle is either a Volkswagen or a Tesla in some shade of gray, white or black.
