  • This is my review of the new Gmade Gr-01 Gom.
    Skip to 5:42 for run footage.
    For this build I used:
    Skyrc Ares Pro 4100kv 9.5t Sensored Brushless Motor
    www.ebay.com/itm/SkyRC-Ares-P...
    Skyrc TS120s Pro 120 amp Sensored ESC
    www.skyrc.com/TS120_Aluminum
    Solar Servo D770 Shift Servo
    www.hobbypartz.com/33p-solarse...
    Solar Servo D771 Steering Servo
    www.hobbypartz.com/33p-solarse...
    Colors Used:
    Ps-61 Metallic Orange
    Ps-16 Metallic Blue
    Ps-12 Silver
    Ps-5 Black
    Ps-55 Matte Clear
    As a side note, This is my first time using the skyrc 120a esc... and I am blown away with how great it is. This esc combined with the program card and software is miles above anything else ive used.
    Built in speed calculation, motor and esc temp and just about any other feature you could want.

    Nice video man, I'm still split between getting a Gom or HPI Venture / TRX-4 . It seems that this could conquer the world with ease. So much so that it might be a bit boring. I'm gonna use it mostly as a crawler or trails. I like the looks of the GOM though.

    • @dustinf11
      @dustinf11  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      WingManGT I can totally see your point. This truck with some really nice sticky tires will be unstoppable. Which makes for almost no challenge.
      I too am having debate between the venture and the trx-4... and now I've recently become very interested in the losi rock Rey kit. Releases the end of this month in kit form.
      Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Great video, looks like a cool rig. How is it holding up, I don't see a follow up video?

    • @dustinf11
      @dustinf11  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah.. I never got around to making one.
      It's... Nice.. when it's good it runs great, but it is a high maintenance type of rig. Mostly the gear shift/dig. Always something needing tweaking.
      That said, I still love this thing to pieces, and it was such a fun kit to build. I wouldn't recommend it as a one and only type of rig though.
      Disclaimer: I'm running a faster motor than it should really have 3800kv sensored brushless. I think a normal brushed crawling motor would suit it better.

  • @peres22
    @peres22 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Awesome vid, thank you so much for sharing! Apparently you tried a lot of rigs, could you please give me an advise which rock crawler/bouncer I should look for? Selection is a bit overwhelming - RR10 Bomber, G-made GOM or R1, Losi, Vatterra Twin Hammers etc.. I have TRX-4 and about to get rid of Yeti RTR to have something lighter, 2-speed for an insane hill climbing/rock bouncing. Budget is not a big issue, I'm looking for kit with a best aftermarket support which will not be discontinued anytime soon )

    • @dustinf11
      @dustinf11  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oleg Khazhinskiy I would have to say the RR10 Bomber fits what you want best.
      I would personally choose the GOM, because it is a pretty solid rig with only a few necessary mods out of the box. But I worry about it's aftermarket support and parts being available going forward.
      Twin Hammers was a fun build, But I wouldn't recommend it. I tried doing too much to mine and now it doesn't do anything overly well.
      I just picked up a losi Baja rey.. and while that isn't a crawler/bouncer, the rock Rey is kind of.. and comes in kit form. That is next for me. The quality on the losi stuff is really impressive.. especially for a $300 kit. No 2-speed option though, and there are known bearing issues on these.
      Another option might be the Traxxas TRX-4. It's a serious rig with 2 speed.. and the coolest feature: remote locking diffs. Speed and crawl all in one. Very top heavy though, so it won't win any races.
      Thanks for watching man, good luck!

    • @peres22
      @peres22 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dustin, many thanks for detailed answer, personally I do like RR10 Bomber because it's looks awesome and I saw crazy suspension mods for it... I do have TRX-4 and will test it soon, but I believe RR10/GOM are very different, I'm looking for something like this: th-cam.com/video/BBM4i5qR9jI/w-d-xo.html. Again, happy new year and thank you so much for what you doing, subscribed!

      @dustinf11  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Awesome Mix Yeah, Harley went into the build hating it and nothing could have changed his mind.

    Great job on the video! Your SkyRC 4100kv... that wouldn't happen to be the 8.5T modified one would it? I finally started my build as well, and I just happened to have the SkyRC 8.5T 4100kv sitting around.

    • @dustinf11
      @dustinf11  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      khyzersoze Thanks man.
      Edit: Yes, it is 8.5t! I don't know why I kept thinking 9.5.... hmm. Anyway it has the dual sensor ports..
      Great motor. And with the esc, you can make it as slow or as fast as you want.
      The esc is really what shines. I didn't know I needed an onboard temp sensor and mph calculator until I had this. Now I don't want to drive anything else.

    • @dustinf11
      @dustinf11  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      With a 15t pinion I'm not sure why gmade would think it's too fast.. it really isn't. Maxed out the Gom will go about 30mph with it. But there is no need for that kind of speed I don't think.
      I have it tuned pretty low and it crawls great.

    • @RevolutionX

    can you link the webpage for the rear links?? sway bar and upgraded bearing kit please?I'm having some issues with being able to effectively seal the all gear boxes on this rig.The slipper plates are kinda janky. the 1.5mm screw are a better fit with the 1/16 inch hex head.but I'm right beside you man, I like this rig. 2 speed trany, dig, 2.9 tires.

    • @dustinf11
      @dustinf11  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cpt Awesome You can get most the stuff from RPP.
      www.rpphobby.com/category_s/611.htm
      Or junfac
      m.junfac.com/category/gr01-gom/167/
      As for the bearings. I don't believe a complete bearing kit has been released yet. I just shopped the individual bearings that I needed.
      I don't run mine through mud or water much at all, especially with a sensored brushless set up. So I havnt noticed the seal on the gearboxes. I know the shifter track gets full of dirt very easily. Being greased actually attracts dirt, but I don't think I would go without the grease on the part.

    • @dustinf11
      @dustinf11  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The slipper plates are kind of bad.
      I started by putting a bearing in place of the plastic spacer on the spur. That helped. And I ended up putting the slipper plates on my metal lathe and making sure they were true. Which they absolutely were not when I first started. I removed material on the back end of it. The part that going into/against the transmission.
      You don't need a lathe though, you can do it by hand or on a drill. Or just order the machined slipper plates that they sell.
      I eventually got it spinning perfectly without a wobble.

    Great video! How does this compare to axial bomber?

    • @dustinf11
      @dustinf11  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      From what I can see, it's pretty similar. I think the bomber is more suited for bashing then the gom. Bomber is lower and has front and rear sway bar mounts.
      Besides the chassis mounted servo and panhard, it's all just small differences.

  • @krlaturn

      Ok cool. Is the kit still holding up? I’m considering buying one. Do you still recommend?

    • @dustinf11
      @dustinf11  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bulletproof RC
      Yes, I still do. I havnt had time to make a follow up video, But I have a lot to say.
      I installed the junfac cva's made for this kit and HPI spider gears to open the front diff. And the difference was AMAZING. The stock turning radius was very poor, But this mod made it seem like it was touched by a magic wand.
      But.. I bent a cva shaft on my first light run. I think/hope it was a fluke.. But am not sure.
      Now I'm testing other shafts (Yeti, bomber) to see if they will work.
      But so far, nothing that came with the original kit has failed. Only parts I've added myself.

    In terms of performance, do you prefer this one over the Axial Bomber or Element Gatekeeper?

    • @dustinf11
      @dustinf11  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't gotten a gatekeeper yet, but if we are talking pure performance, the bomber is better.
      The gom has scale, build and looks going for it, but the bomber is bullet proof and just performs.
      If I had to give one away though, I would keep the gom and lose the bomber.. which sounds crazy. The gom just has so much charm in my opinion. Scale drivetrain always blows me away.

    i have this same rig, had an issue with rear diff locker stripping out on a 3800 castle sensored system. how has yours stood up?

    • @dustinf11
      @dustinf11  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good and bad... It seems I need to work on it just about every time I take it out.. but maybe I'm asking more of it than it can give. I think a brushed motor and crawling/light racing would be good for this... But as a basher, I'm always tweaking it.
      But the pros outweigh the cons as it's a blast to drive and was a really enjoyable build.

    • @OverlandSubaru
      @OverlandSubaru 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dustinf11 I'm running brushed 27t now, it's still fun, and switched the front dog bones to cvd's, also running 4WS which gives it tremendous agility. But I noticed my ring/input axel gears are wearing quickly and front diff lock seems to have alot of play, have you noticed any of these things? This isn't my only crawler but as you said, it seems to be the most wrenching.

    • @dustinf11
      @dustinf11  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OverlandSubaru I also got rid of the dog bones as soon as the cv's came on the market... And I was blown away with how steep the steering angle is. But, with my gom luck, I bent one on the first mild bump it took. It was faulty because I've since jumped and bashed on a new set without issues. Gmade actually sent my a brand new pair, which was nice.
      I've opened my from diff using axial spider gears. That was a long process of tweaking, but it's holding up now.
      I'm definitely asking more of my gom than it's made to give. With unlocked front and brushless power, but the thing runs awesome like that.
      Maybe I should have bought a bomber, and I probably still will, if that's the truck I'm after, but there is no denying.. the gom just looks great.

    • @OverlandSubaru
      @OverlandSubaru 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dustinf11 hmmmm, i wonder if a different locker would fit......?

    • @dustinf11
      @dustinf11  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OverlandSubaru I would be shocked if it didn't.
      I mean, axial spider gears fit without any real issue. Also, before I knew gmade would send a replacement CV joint, I tried to find cheaper replacements. The bomber CV was very close to working, just a bit long. The yeti cvs fit if you changed the shaft to a bomber.
      So we have some compatibility. I might be able to check the fit. I have a bunch of axial lockers sitting around.

      The axial yeti. Pretty easy answer. Built the kit, add parts where it's weak and give it some power.
      There is something really special about how the thing drives.
      Bomber might be a close second if you'd rather focus on the crawling more than racing.

      @@firstflite8987 The big problem with a stock Yeti and even the kit is the plastic ball ends. They get very sloppy after only a few runs. That and an aluminum motor mount are the ones that come to mind. Maybe an upgrade to the steering, but that's more performance than durability.
