I don't think Ren taking down the song has something to do with the Bulgarian choir .. at least not directly. My understanding is that Ren already paid 15% to the choir (as they requested) because Kujobeats refused to absorb that. In any case the Bulgarian choir did not strike the song, Kujobeats did because he wants to engage Ren in a legal battle. And Ren simply removed the song to avoid that.

I only knew about ren from your previous posts and knew about this last week, just watched the new vid from ren then saw this, cant wait for your next ren vid thank you justin!
Very interesting explanation of how you see this dispute. Having watched Rens' video on the whole thing it was great to follow up with you. Always enjoy your content.
Thank you Justin. There are so many out there chasing after every breadcrumb to feast on. This is not just a song to Ren, you apparently see it is his heart.
for reasons around my own provincial stupidity, I wanted to dislike Ren, but he rapidly became my favorite artist --- hands down. Good on ya for your take.
Back in the day the Fugees sampled Enya without permission, and she considered sueing but after hearing the song decided to just come to a settlement with them. Wyclef even said how awesome she was about it when she didn't have to be. There are ways to solve this where everyone comes out on top! And then there's the kujo way.
@@jodiegordon5559 what does that matter? The Score was the best selling album in the US in 1996. Ready or not, the track which featured the sample was also a huge success as a single. She could have taken pretty much all the proceeds from all of that, but chose not to.
Thank you for sharing your opinion. Your video of Hi Ren is how I discovered Ren in the first place. PS my ears are still ringing from when I saw you play at the House of Blues in Dallas over a decade ago ❤
Something that is missed in this summary is that it was Kujo's people that struck down the Sick Boi music video on TH-cam. They exploited the way TH-cam favours claimants over creators to hold the video hostage. This was their leverage in trying to negotiate some big pay day for Kujo. Ren took the song off streaming after this happened. The striking of the video appears to be the first shot fired in this dispute. Ren claims that Kujo and his lawyers didn't contact him at all before striking the video and saying it was "the only way to get his attention."
The first shot fired was Kujo not being paid his royalties, Ren freely admitted that but said it was 'down to his team', which dragged on for months. Unfortunately this is a very one-sided argument, people think Ren can do no wrong. As for favouring claimants over creators, Kujo is the creator too. Without his beat, there is no song. If you want to avoid these situations, don't be lazy and produce your own beats. I'm a fan of Ren's music, but based on that the world has decided Ren is an angel and Kujo is a dick, but no-one is stopping to consider whether Ren might be one too and what they would do if one of their beats went big and they weren't getting paid what they were due.
Going of what was made public (I’m aware we might not have the full picture); Kujo didn’t get his publishing money, because he sold a sample that was not cleared (which is a breach of contract). The people who own the rights to that sample (Bulgarian choir) claimed his publishing money, rightly so. This is between the production companies and the publishers. Ren has nothing to do with this because he bought an unlimited license. Kujo now tries to get money from Ren for his money problems and that is where this whole shit show starts. Ren stated that he agrees that Kujo should get his publishing money, but doesn’t legally have any rights to masters profits. Oh and the copy right strike was illegal. Watch a few music lawyers reactions on this. Ren could sue for this.
@@arlasoft Ren talked about this, and he contacted the publishers to let them know that there was a problem. Kujo will definitely be reimbursed for the money that wasn't paid due to an error on the publisher's part. That wasn't Ren, but he did takes steps to try to get it fixed, because Ren agrees that Kujo should be paid for his work. I think the reason people have decided that Kujo is a dick is because Kujo filed a copyright strike on Ren's video, and because the sample he used was stolen, and because he suddenly wanted a cut of the master, which was never part of the original agreement. And I personally think that Kujo is an idiot for turning down Ren's offer to create a new track and split it 50/50.
@@arlasoft kujo not being paid had absolutely nothing to do with Ren or his team - it was the publisher's mistake, which is now being rectified. As for "without the beat there is no song "????? Are you serious? Kujo made an awesome beat for sure (unfortunately with a stolen sample), but there would not be a song without Ren's arrangement & lyrics - lyrics that he poured his whole soul into!!!! And just to show that Kujo's beat isn't essential to the song, Ren will be re releasing the song with his own beat on Oct 13. As for only hearing 1 side - Ren has repeatedly asked Kujo to share his side. Last week, Kujo "threatened " to release his side of the whole mess, with screenshots that he claimed would expose Ren. The date that he said he would do this has come and gone and - crickets.
"Permission to Land" was a huge part of my childhood. It's so cool to find you here, man, making really interesting videos. Love it. The Ren situation was mad.
The BABY is coming!!! You really should've called for clean sheets and hot water. I bet you could deliver a baby. If they named it, Justin Hawkins, you could sing, "Justin Hawkins arrives again...AGAIN." I usually charge for these ideas, but you can have this one. 😊
Really appreciate you covering this Justin, thank you. I've watched a lot of videos about this situation and not a single person has agreed with Kujo's position (rightly so). Let's hope that makes Kujo stop and think about his actions.
Thank you for introducing me to Ren's music. His art has changed my life for the better over the last year and a half. I appreciate your insight into this situation, and also your continued support of him.

Justin! It's a pleasure to watch you and listen to your clear and precise info ! You succeed in keeping a calm lookout on this troublesome situation while giving a COMPASSIONATE statement in favour of Ren being one of THE Artists of our times❣And justly so THIS GUY IS BRILLIANT. I hope and thousands of other fans hope that things can be sorted out for Ren! He plainly IS NOT AT FAULT AT ALL as your video made clear again . Thank you for it.🙏🌟 Looking forward to what else you have to say!!! Good Night 😅 It's 2:45 a.m. in Germany 👌👊🌝🖐
Thank you Justin you have always been a great support of Ren, and as a big fan of his really appreciate your take on this situation and your continued support of him. I think you are right Ren shouldn’t have taken the track down because that is giving in to extortionate circumstances. I do however, see that Ren feels so understandably protective of this track that he didn’t want it to be held hostage any longer. Plus it gave him the opportunity to remake the track fully with all of his own beats, which means the whole of the intellectual and musical properties are then entirely his. Thus, he can re-birth the track to the world and become proud of it all over again. Plus, the old version will become part of music folklore and give later fans a deep dive opportunity to unearth the tracks history, and understanding through this, both Ren’s art and integrity.
Thank you for your support towards Ren Justin 🙏 ive always loved your music but found your youtube channels through Ren and subscribed. What an awesome dude you are my friend 🫶
I think he has taken this problem and made absolute fire out of the situation. I think it is better than just finding a compromise with Kujo behind the scenes. He has brought this issue out of the dark for all the fans and consumers of music to understand what goes on. Brilliant indeed.
Thank you for your support of Ren, and thanks for your level-headed delivery of information. I'm glad to feel your solidarity with Ren and to see how healthy you are looking.
Great take Justin, see Ren has done a cracking live version of Bittersweet, a song all too familiar with court case copyright issues, think it was something like 25yrs until Verve got money for that record.
Thank you for reacting to the situation and talking about it. You're a good 'un. If you're not sure why Ren rolled over, I'd recommend after doing your own reaction the Kujo Beat Down, watching Knox Hill's reaction. Knox is another rapper, albeit American, who's independent and very good but he also does reactions. He was a part of Ren's set during SGP this year, and spent a lot of time with Ren while the legal back and forth was happening. He gives a lot of insight into Ren's stress levels and what have you, at the time.
I don’t think most people realize how exhausting it is dealing with health issues and then having a major stressor occur on top of that. I hate that people are saying Ren “rolled over” when he did as much as he could to rectify the situation and kept being met with opposition. It isn’t good for his health & the treatment he had just received to put himself under so much stress. Taking a step back to come up with a different solution so that he doesn’t run himself back into a horrible health situation again isn’t rolling over, he’s proactively choosing his health over this drama. People are clearly not taking into account Ren’s health issues & considering “Hi Ren” is how most people came across his music, that’s a shame.
@@xeaux I don't necessarily think it's a case of intent in not taking them into account. Unfortunately, and I say this as someone who's also chronically ill but actually very functional mostly, it's very easy for people who don't deal with invisible, chronic illness to just presume people who seem functional... *Are*. We're not really, it's all a front. We have vast, complicated, difficult and awkward coping strategies and complex needs to take into account. So yes, you're right, everything takes so much more energy and effort. Additionally, the term "rolled over" in this instance, I don't believe has a disrespectful intent either. I think it's a different era of language crossing over here, with a slightly different subtext than we'd expect now if someone says "you rolled". I think it's a shame that Ren took Sick Boi down because he'd have been within his rights to take Kujo to court over it. But, he wanted to redo it HIS way. That isn't rolling over, that's going "right, fuck this, fuck you, I'm doing it so it's MINE".
@@lexiibattwitch, Ren took Sick Boi off all streaming platforms _after_ Kujo copyright claimed it and had it pulled from TH-cam. Ren has to fight that (or should, because he’d win), but he didn’t “roll over”. He chose his battle. He chose to make a 100% Ren version of Sick Boi.
@@SuziQ. I know. Literally said that. The reason I pointed Justin to Knox is because Knox doesn't share too much of Ren's health info but makes how he was about it all, while it was happening, very clear. Jfc.
Justin, I didn't think I could love you more, but here we are. Going out of your way to support an amazing young artist and bring people's attention to the injustice of what's happening to Ren You're such a fucking solid bloke!!! We really need to circle the wagons around brother Ren and get this fucking shit sorted!!
Awesome explanation on revenue streams and how it actually works for labels/publishing, artists, and writers. So many have no idea how royalties work and you broke it down to an understandable idea for all. It's a tricky, sticky, potentially complicated system depending on how much the writer/artist pays attention to the fine print before tapping 'ok'. The industry is not quite as vicious as it was from the 1950's to the turn of the century when the artist/writer had no control or means of distribution. Now it's far more to the creators advantage but still very critical to pay close attention to the agreement read those words carefully before pressing/tapping/clicking/"okay-ing" (signing). I always keep in mind that those agreements were constructed by lawyers! Enough said! Great video Justin.
I was hoping you'd have a take on this. Your experience in the industry gives you great perspective, and your candidness about your views makes for great content in general. Not just musically! :D

Nearly a million views now- Kujo was very silly to turn down working with Ren it would have set him up with a fantastic track plus the support & respect of not only Rens fans but the wider industry too more fool Kujo looking forward to part 2
@@SickBoiFanatic I hope there won't be reason for a part 2 to be released, but looking forward to Sick Boi version 2! And yeah, it got to over a million by yesterday, if not before, so... yeah... what was that quote (the first DM from the girlfriend) about "a little oopsie" or something? ;)
Justin you introduced me to Ren two or three years ago and I wanna thank you for that. He’s been a great follow. Such a unique cat.
Thanks Justin for weighing in on a very clear wrong done to Ren. Looking forward to the breakdown of Rens new track.
Wonderful sensitive and succinct consideration of the situation and great to have an music insider's explanation and take on it. Agree with you wholeheartedly
Absolutely support team Ren. Thanks for doing this Justin; it will mean the world to Ren.
Love you supporting Ren Justin ❤
Love seeing the peeks into your life and career - and I can’t wait to see your interview with the Lemon Twigs! Thanks for another insightful video
Great to hear your thoughts and glad Ren has your support!
Thanks for this! Succinct and clearly stated. Looking forward to your breakdown of the beat down 🥰
I only knew about ren from your previous posts and knew about this last week, just watched the new vid from ren then saw this, cant wait for your next ren vid thank you justin!
Very interesting explanation of how you see this dispute. Having watched Rens' video on the whole thing it was great to follow up with you.
Always enjoy your content.
Love that you did this
Thank you Justin. There are so many out there chasing after every breadcrumb to feast on. This is not just a song to Ren, you apparently see it is his heart.
Thank you for speaking out and drawing attention to this! ❤
for reasons around my own provincial stupidity, I wanted to dislike Ren, but he rapidly became my favorite artist --- hands down.
Lauren Hill is one of my 90s faves!
That's cos she lives in a castle and he lives in a squat above a kebab shop.
@@TashaBryanRENegade mine too :)

@@jodiegordon5559 what does that matter? The Score was the best selling album in the US in 1996. Ready or not, the track which featured the sample was also a huge success as a single. She could have taken pretty much all the proceeds from all of that, but chose not to.
This is amazing, Justin. Thanks for this. Loved your take on this situation!
i really enjoyed learning about all this. love Rens creativity. hope everything works out for all who deserve it. great vid.
Thanks for talking about this.
I love that u are touching on this!! We NEED a reaction to Kujo Beat Down!! 🙌 Thank u Justin!! ❤
Thank you for sharing your opinion. Your video of Hi Ren is how I discovered Ren in the first place.
PS my ears are still ringing from when I saw you play at the House of Blues in Dallas over a decade ago ❤
Like many others, I found Ren through you so, thank you for that. Great to see so much support for Ren from so many people.
Hey I'm so glad you did this! Ren I feel is handling it all pretty well!
really appreciate that you took the time to break the situation down from your own experience. interesting stuff.
Boy did he hit back with his latest song!
Thank you so much for explaining this out.
This was a beautifully thoughtful take🙏🏻. Looking forward to your reaction to Ren's masterpiece.
@@arlasoft This first shot was actually Kujo stealing the sample and use it to make profit.
You are always so interesting, thank you for this video.
The BABY is coming!!! You really should've called for clean sheets and hot water. I bet you could deliver a baby. If they named it, Justin Hawkins, you could sing, "Justin Hawkins arrives again...AGAIN."
I usually charge for these ideas, but you can have this one. 😊
Really appreciate you covering this Justin, thank you. I've watched a lot of videos about this situation and not a single person has agreed with Kujo's position (rightly so). Let's hope that makes Kujo stop and think about his actions.
Always good to have competent people like you on your side when goin through some kinky sht like that! 🙏
Thank you for introducing me to Ren's music. His art has changed my life for the better over the last year and a half.
I appreciate your insight into this situation, and also your continued support of him.
Always enjoy your input Justin, also great seeing the brief Jersey glimpses in the videos after your fleeting visit. Great performance too btw!
My God, the segue from discussing the complexities of group's recording and bringing in last minute suggestions, to sampling, to the Ren topic we wildly smooth.
Chinchilla needs to be reviewed. That live version of 5:1 is special
Absolutely amazing song
agree
1:5 so that you easily find it
Yessss!💕👍🦇
He plainly IS NOT AT FAULT AT ALL
as your video made clear again . Thank you for it.🙏🌟
Looking forward to what else you have to say!!!
Good Night 😅 It's 2:45 a.m. in Germany
👌👊🌝🖐
One of your best Justin....cheers dawg.
I dicovered Ren from your Channel dear Justin, I appreciate your support for this amazing artist..thanks for this video and....Forza Ren....
"we dont wanna put a baby on camera" goddamn right we dont good man
Thank you for your support towards Ren Justin 🙏 ive always loved your music but found your youtube channels through Ren and subscribed. What an awesome dude you are my friend 🫶
That was brilliant.
I didn't know about Houdini! You're videos are always very interesting!
Thank you Justin. No matter how genius anybody can be they're always standing on the shoulders of giants - and you are one of the giants ❤
I think he has taken this problem and made absolute fire out of the situation. I think it is better than just finding a compromise with Kujo behind the scenes. He has brought this issue out of the dark for all the fans and consumers of music to understand what goes on. Brilliant indeed.
100% love a respectable, experienced and amazing artist's take on this travesty. Love all your music and takes.
Like @Patcow9999 said - Rens 'Kujo Beat Down' video is epic. A must see. I sure wouldn't want to be Kujo
Thank you. You have answered some questions I had over this.
Thank you for your support of Ren, and thanks for your level-headed delivery of information. I'm glad to feel your solidarity with Ren and to see how healthy you are looking.
Interview with the Lemon Twigs! Yay! Looking forward to this!
@@lexiibattwitch,
Ren took Sick Boi off all streaming platforms _after_ Kujo copyright claimed it and had it pulled from TH-cam.
Yup. Thanks, Justin.
Really nice summary of the whole situation. Thank you for your opinion and support 💜💜💜
I didn’t know about Ren until you made a video on him, Justin. I never thanked you for that and I need to thank you very much for this video too.
You speak from a calm place, thanks.
thanks for do this!!!! its really amazing all your support!!!!! so many thanks!!!
I was hoping you'd have a take on this. Your experience in the industry gives you great perspective, and your candidness about your views makes for great content in general. Not just musically! :D
Thanks for sharing your viewpoint on Ren and this situation Justin
Great comments as ever and supportive of Ren.
Algo Bump! Appreciate the reaction with your thoughts and analysis, looking forward to hearing more about this! Thank you, much love and have a great day!
This is a beautifully concise summary brought to us by a beautiful voice and beautiful human. Thank you.
Cheers Justin, you are a true gentle man . Ren came to be known at just the time i needed a jolt in my life . . . and i saw a bunch of fuss and news that i was just ignoring to be honest -thanks for explaining what has happened. and i agree , he shouldn't have had to take it down, but i think i would have done the same and re-owned it completely, cuz i'm a bit like that too.
Very well balanced discussion there Justin. REN has always come across as absolutely genuine and it’s great you take the line you do. He’s working and worked through it. I couldn’t even imagine that frustration.
