Why don’t u do anything pats 2005
Are you gonna fix the exhaust there is the heater hose on it or is it fine like that?
This video pissed me off!, bro I love to watch your videos and I always look forward to watching them but, trouble shooting skills are 💩 ,why not buy the right tools, or remove the engine and tear it down if you tear it down and everything is good what do you have to loose, a few gaskets or seals ? At least you kno everything is good or not and I know your subscribers wouldn't mind a detailed video of a engine tear down, and showing them how everything works and goes back together, teach these guys that are new at this or have the same issue how to solve the problem right way not half-ass everything.
@@2817485160 next video will be the tear down. I was trying to diagnose and see if it was something small before having to tear down the whole motor. I hope that makes sense.

Head gasket could be bad and letting gas and antifreeze mix up and go down the pipe which could be why that spark plug look so new
Nah
You should take it apart and put new crank seals and gasket kit
Cr250 build was awesome, now we get more Honda content!
Couple theories.. 1)if there was water all in the exhaust it could’ve mixed with exhaust soot and turned gray.. 2)head gasket... why it dies in gear is interesting to me. My kids pw80 is very finicky until its nice and warm.. good luck tho!! Look forward to the resolution! 🤙
Hey man ive been watching your videos for the past couple of months and i love watching them, Keep up the good work man!
Looks like a lil kid had fun stuffing anything that fits up the exhaust.. definitely head gasket and change float back to where it was and should be sweet. Would've blown headgasket from blocked pipe is my guess
Definitely needs full rebuild man but fortunately for a bike that size it's pretty inexpensive that's a perfect candidate for a full restore!!! Keep in mind when your like ugh I don't want to put that kind of money into it 2 stroke Honda's are a hot ticket item in the mx world right now for riders and collector's alike
Check to make sure the clip is on the needle jet for the carb slide. That'll make it run away crazy like that as well.
Great video!! Let's get a tear down going 🙏
Joe you may want to check the slide in the carb. I’ve seen them wear a grove where the idle screw goes in the carb and the slide can get hung up on it and cause it to idle high. It sounds better but the idle is a little too high. Also sounds a little boggy at low rpm.
Head seals inner o ring they dont run on antifreeze ive never seen one do that but my kids bike needed the top of the cylinder decked and new o rings because it was warped
I would just use a radiator pressure tester to see where the water was going before I tore into it. You just pump it up and look for coolant, air bubbles, or if you can't see anything and the pressure decreases you know you've got a problem. Or take the radiator cap off and look for bubbles as it's idling. That spark plug being so clean it's gotta be a head gasket more than likely. The gear oil would be milky if it were the water pump seal
9:13. Just throws that float 😂 good job joe Lol
Use a can of brake clean and spray it around the engine to help find leaks. Crank seal are probably bad. Fix that dent on the pipe. Fill it with just enough water and put it in the freezer
Air and full mixture has to be just right. Not sure about the milky substance never seen that one befor . Nice job discovering them sticks in the pipe.
That pipe getting filled with oil is the center case seal buddy***
This gives me flashbacks to an old blaster. I couldn't get it running for the life of me. Everything's was right, and I deleted the tors, but the damn thing just wouldn't start. I pulled off the pipe, and it turns out there was a mouse nest clogging it up! As soon as I put the pipe back on, it ran perfect.
It might be because the magneto is a little loose. It messes up the idle and throttle response happened to my bike take the magneto off and check the keyway. Great content mate love watching your videos. 👍
I'll check that thanks!
Haha awesome. I take a guess of the guys kids posting stuff down the back box 😉
Yea probably sat in the back where the kids played.
My 2004 Wr250 had the same problem they call it hanging idle. my cables were binding up and were dirty so I cleaned them re-installed them the best I could without twisting them too much and the problem was fixed.
nice job! one thing: the chain lub always made from the inside due to centrifugal movement.
The throttle cable adjuster is just there to remove slack. Use the idle screw.
You can check crank seals using a propane torch I did it on my sled found the problem it’ll rev to the moon if it gets a sniff of that gas
last time i had seen oil like that in a pipe was my old rm 80 1992 when the head gasket started to blow and rings was worn :/
great video cant wait for part 3
Always informative Joe, many thanks!
Glad you figured it out I was gonna tell you check the throttle cable. Or throttle slide can get sticky
You are awesome sir... keep up these awesome videos. I appreciate them
That thing needs a top end rebuild. While your at it tear it down do a engine rebuild . Never seem gray paint come out of a pipe lol. But a total rebuild needs to be done. PERIOD
Joe, you can't "play" with float height. It's either wrong or right. There is no in between.
He thinks he can. Master mechanic
He's doing fine you just can't take short cuts. He's learned a lot over the years. He's much better now.
@@rigguyjt 🤣
@@mikelyons469 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@mikelyons469 I'll say what I've said before. It's the ambition and push that he has that really counts. A lot of people his age are sitting on their balls waiting for someone to "give" them something and he is doing all this on his own, has reinvested his money over and over and has a new wife and house to show for it. Give him a little credit.
Thats what happens when you hook the radiator system upto your exhuast!! I think exhaust systems are supposed to be air cooled instead of water cooled. Just an idea though!! :P
Is there oil in your radiator? It looks like coolant getting in your cylinder.
CRANK SEALS SHOT and WATER PUMP SEAL SHOT ooof
Easy fixes
Could one of the coolant passage ways be crack and leaking into the fire chamber? I have had a lot of 2 strokes and i know that the spark arrestor will build up with the excess 2 stroke oil over time. If coolant mixed with that i would imagin it would look grey and milky. If the leak is in th the top part of the fluid passage way it would get spit into the exhaust before it made it to the crank case oil.
What I am seeing is that classic milkshake of death coming out of the pipe. Somewhere, water is being introduced to the bottom or top end. What came our of your pipe is definately water mixed with oil.
i would kill for a bike like this, a shame we dont get them this cheap here.
I usually push start a low cc bike when i'm not sure if it will start or not, it's way more effective than just kicking. Put it in like 3rd or 4th gear on a 6 gear transmission and it starts up pretty quick or just doesn't at all
Bad water pump seals are letting water into the gearbox and is getting sucked into the crankcase via bad crank seals.
There's no oil in the crankcase to get past the rings except for the fuel/oil mix and air. There could be fuel/oil mixed with coolant if the head gasket is blown between the combustion chamber and water jacket. I'd start the engine without the coolant cap off and look for evidence of air bubbles. Also draining the coolant, might show signs of fuel/oil contamination. There's also the possibility that the oil in the expansion chamber had mixed with water from careless washing by the previous owner. That would be a good thing. The expansion chambers always have a little oil in them after enough riding.
With that much oil in the pipe you should take off the top end there is probably a bunch of it sitting under the piston in the crankcase, explains the bogging. Don't guess on the float height, set it to spec.
Have to get me an old school ripper like that .....would be great for the cottage. Regular bike is a 2014 yz250f
To the 1% reading this god bless, stay safe and have a wonderful day (my dream is to become a famous moto vloger) Thanks❤️
You and that damn crescent wrench. Drives me crazy. LOL
All those late 80's 80CC bikes were great. Would love to have one. Fun little bikes.
I love to see your two cr builds
Dam banana in the tail pipe 😮 lol someone put that in there 😂
Anyone know why around 6:13-6:20 when he revs it, I hear a real raspy buzz and then shuts off when slows back to idle... my kx250 does this and I didn’t know if it’s just the pipe that makes it sound like that or not, I have a fmf fatty
9:41 always a good idea to make sure the trunk is closed tight.😂👍
This channel is amazing. But the pressure washer. Don’t leave it where it can freeze. The water that is left in the pump will freeze and crack the pump then it’s good for the garbage. Put pump saver antifreeze in it.
Wow I've never seen a stick come out before what was they trying to make it quieter 😂
It looks really neglected they probably left it out side and rain water got in the exhaust. And try some permatex 82099 spray and seal for for the air boot when you spray it on it drys clear. I have used it for years it works awesome. Great video these bikes need to be saved.
Home Depot.... 4 bucks.... I always buy my rubber boots from them.... Thank me later.... Spread the word
Once I got like a 1998 cr80 for $150 it just needed put together and it ran great
Pipe is full of oil from being a two stroke, what came out was probably just rain that went down the muffler and sat in there mixing with the oil. ( the seat was wet after all )
The stick well that’s a mystery, maybe a “tool” someone was using to clean out carbon
Hahahahaha..... I just spit out my coffee reading that!!!!! Hahahaha.... You my friend are hilarious!!!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
You changed the float height and now its starved of fuel . Will idle but nit enough fuel fir main jet
You finally got a cr 80
hey a nice little trick i do i use that black rubber stretch tape and go around that intake boot a lot of times it works for a while but sooner or later it comes down to just get another boot them boots can look sealed but they are not so don't count it out because it needs replaced yo might check the reeds
My 2003 cr85 does this when I first start it I can put it in gear and it will work and move without even touching the gas but if i let it sit for about 5 mins it will start to idle at a normal speed so i think it just needs to warm up
love the vids i wish i could find the deals you find on Facebook market place here in Ontario Canada.
Yeah ikr, live in Ontario too but I feel like nothing comes up this cheap
@@yamahayz2505 check the minimum wage in America vs Canada , its all equal . that 400$ destroyed cr80 you can find for 800$ here in Canadian . Americans make way less per hour on average that's why their products seem so cheap to us , reality is its basically equal..
Canadians make way more on average and our products cost more . Americans make way less and the products cost way less over there .
@@godmangodman9453 That's not true. What's minimum wage in Canada? Plus cost of living factors into wages in each country. I can't find 400$ near me. Remember he lives in a rural area where bikes are alot more common than other parts of the US and Canada
I wrap tbe clutch and brake levers with 3 layers of Monster tape to soften the feel of the levers.
Looks like oil in pipe is coming from right side crank seal. That is the only possibility way to get gear oil in the combustion chamber remember this is a 2 stroke the transmission and crank case are completely separate unlike a 4 stroke. I would bet that is why it is running so smokey.
I totally agree. I bet it is that right side crank seal.
Is your transmission binding? Clutch?
Can you do a compression test?
is there to much oil in the bottom end if there is it will push it up past the rings and do that
Caught this video in passing earlier today. Been binge watching the rest of your videos. Wonder if you have any Bultacos on here..hmmm...
Sounds like throttle slide is sticking, or cable is sticking somewhere
My 2016 kx100 kinda does the same thing too. When I cold start it, it revs really really high then when I ride it around it doesn't idle. Air leak?
And when I cleaned the carb it didn't do nothing and changing the idle stew doesn't help cause then when its warm I have to change it back
CAN'T WAIT TO SEE IT RUN!...GREAT VIDEOS MAN....IT MIGHT BE THE CYLINDER LINER MAYBE??
That pipe could be huge issue Joe. Nasty as hell.
Man I swear I laugh more and more at these videos every day holy shit 🤣🤣
Me to , what a lulz clown.
You can also use it to check the carb boot as long as you air box it all together
often a good idea to measure float height and adjust to manufacturers spec 🤣
I had a blaster one that had dropped a piston skirt and redid top end and it would suck oil from clutch/crankcase it had cracked the inside of case is the issue I found after taking it back down
Awesome video man
3 fingers is perfect
You can also spray carb cleaner at the air intake to see if you have a leak, instead of tossing gas on a running engine, take care
While its idling, take the oil filler cap off to see if compression it slipping by the rings and pushing oil out.
Wish I had a bike like that for my son. He is 12.
That doesn't work on this bike. It's a 2 stroke and the oil fill on this bike is for the transmission which is separated from the engine part.
You should take the hole bike apart and fix everything and paint the frame and motor and everything make it look like new and the see how much money you could make off of it after you done doing that
When he said that the oil would have to make it past the rings... lol
Change the oil, best idea!!
Keep up the good work love seeing these vids
You need to spray break clean around everything on that topend
I would try putting the right plug in. That plug is only for 82-84 cr80s
Check the timing plate behind the flywheel my kx had a fresh rebuild and ran like 💩 it would pop and bog it wouldn’t rev out at all and I adjusted the plate and it was a screamer could also be a carb issue also and the milky oil in the pipe sounds like you have water or fuel mixing with oil somewhere I had a 02 cr80rb and it was pulling oil from a bad crank seal and pushing it out the pipe it was a smoke show also had no power and wouldn’t open up so maybe a few things to check it check the coolant for oil mixed in and drain the transmission oil into a clean pan to see what you find
I had a CZ year ago that ran great but would not put to ride the bike. It was the condenser that was bad.
Love the videos keep up the good work
If its not an air leak get a new throttle cable or try adjusting the one you have
Mixed with water, check head gaskets. Maybe water pump.
Yo I love your content keep it up I have been subbed since 70 k
Bro has 340k now 💀
Thats a little gem you got there for the money. If you didn't want one of these as a kid i don't want to know you
Ps my buddy an myself have gotten a pipe full of oil..always crank seals for us...guessing your oil is grey due to the water mixture. Also as someone mentioned prob could use water seals as well.
Thinking the same.... Good call
@@tylerjablonski8384 Thanks brother
It needs mixture setting, it sounds flat as a fart
I would to have a bike like that one. After getting cancer, I had to sell all I had for medical bills. Now I can not afford one. I wish I had not sold mine, It was the exact model you have here. I miss riding. I rode mine real early. Like at 7AM. My neighbors did not like that at all. But I then decided to get along with them. And ride a couple hours later.
Its a great bike too rebuild I bought mine years ago for 800 dollars and done the full rebuild and all new plastic and tires and ending putting another 1200 dollars in the bike and it's the best that I did because like I said I have run against bigger bikes and it would walk away from 125cc 2 strokes like they did not have a chance mine weighs around 130 pounds and the 125 weighs way over 225 pounds can't go wrong
You should a xl 500 dual sport
Great video favorite TH-camr
Why do you give it so much gas when trying to start it?
To Get gas in the carb in order to give it a better chance to start it
Do a leak down test and make a spray bottle with soapy water spray or everywhere and the leak will show if your engine can't holt the air and dont put more than 7 psi in the engine or you can damage the seals/gaskets.
Lucky guy, make it into a serious weapon so it goes like a demon
Throttle plunger stuck. Cable hanging up??
Love the videos man
Take slide down more, will idle fine.adjust it at hand throttle.
2vintage: uses weed eater string to check oil.
The slide could have wear, and what was the clip position? Not sure about if you can replace cr80 main seals without splitting cases, kx80 you have to split. New main seals would be insurance.
Get a pair of cheap calipers to measure float height while blowing gently through the hose to measure proper height and see if needle and seat works. If you have kids, you know they shove crap into everything.
