Without Allan and the other Ford teams there never would have been a decent competition. Thank you, Allan, for all your hard work.

The old fashioned, upright professionalism that Al displayed during interviews was a great counterweight to the laid back types like Brock, Johnson and Grice. Shame we cant hear more from him due to his health these days.

Forgive me, but I’m a Pom, so we get very little news from ‘down under’ in the U.K.
What’s wrong with Alan Moffets health?

@@frazerguest2864 Sadly Moffat has been stricken with Alzheimer's. Fellow racer Larry Perkins has become something of an advocate and visits his care facility helping out here and there. Up until recently he often took Al on visits to classic racing meets and car shows where he remembered all the old cars with delight. I forgot to mention, Old mate and fellow racer, Fred Gibson was also involved in getting Al out to race meets and shows.

@@HereIsMyOffer : Good morning and thanks for the update.
That’s really sad news. Alzheimers is such an awful and horrific disease, especially for the loved ones seeing their parent’s brain waste away.
Good on LP and Freddy Gibson for helping out an old mate. Decent blokes the pair of them.
Even though I was always more of a Dickie Johnson fan as a kid, Alan Moffet was alright. I used to love seeing him hustle the little RX7 around and I wish Moffet and his family all the best.

after selling the old XCs the 1980 Bathurst 1000 would end up being a debacle for Moff in an underprepared XD which would be five seconds a lap slower than the Johnson XD

I still think Colin Bond should have overtaken Moffat and won the race. Whether it was 1-2 or 2-1 the Ford fans would not have cared. I don't think Bond was racing with him next year anyway. I think that 1980 was when he began racing the Channel 9 sponsored Camaro. It was all very polarising back in the day, the drivers were the fan base, not so much the car. I was a Leo Geohagan fan myself. I later met him several times. He really was one of life's gentlemen - and he also shared a few stories about the skulduggery that went on behind the scenes also.

      2 - 1 finish?😂😂😂
Yes, the fans would not have cared but from a marketing (big picture) point of view
      it makes a huge difference.
Moffat understood this and so did Bond, the professional.
It may have helped Ford sell cars, even if they didn't give Moffat
the support later, it was the right move.
Bond knows he one Bathurst, regardless of the record books.
When you work for someone, you do as they ask,
or go fund your own race team.

@@imanenigma3348 Well, that's what Colin did, as I pointed out above. Ford gave Moffat virtually nothing. He stated in interviews after he retired that the cars were actually his 1978 cars and he placed the front fenders grill, headlights etc on them, to make them look like the 1979 GT's, because Ford Australia would not provide him with some new cars. He warned the boffins that GMH would be pissed with the 1-2 finish and come back with a vengeance. They were, they did, it was called the A9X Torana.
