Minor Stirrings

  • I was playing with a few new string sounds and wanted test them in a real world… I mean a spacy, Floydian soundscape. I started a project called “Minor Strings”, but when I looked, the first thing that came to mind was “Minor Stirrings”. When I finished the instrumental parts and was thinking what to do with the middle section, I decided that maybe I could put in lyrics. I wrote a few lines, almost stream of conscious. I sang them a few times over the music, playing a keyboard along. And then I recorded. From idea to recording, 10 minutes. Yeah, not the greatest lyrics/singing in the world, but… Later I added the “Cathedral Organ” bass in a few places. Nice rumble.
I used a Behringer Model D for that synth solo and there are the vocals, plus slight harmony on last phrase. Other than that, all sounds are the Sequential Prophet Rev 2. Yep, even the “guitar”.
Again, the idea was testing three string synth sounds - the first sound you hear and the "stabs" in the middle section are an attempt to get a 70's string synth sound (mostly left channel, though bass near middle and octave higher far right). Then there are the shimmers. The third is a deep, full synth sound that was inspired by an Obreheim sound I like. It fills in the spaces of the other two (most right channel).
    I hope you enjoyed

What, is it that obvious? lol For the opening here I was thinking PF's Shine on You Crazy Diamond, but, yeah, you are right, it does show a heavy TD influence.
