- Russia claimed to have shot down six US-supplied Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) launched by Ukraine on April 30. Officials in Russian-annexed Crimea said some of the missiles were downed over the Black Sea peninsula.
The US admitted last week that it secretly shipped long-range missiles to Ukraine for use against Russian forces. The weapons, which reached Ukraine this month, were part of a $300m aid package approved by US President Joe Biden in March.
Whether to send the ATACMS missiles with a range up to 300 km was a subject of debate within the Biden administration for months.

Doubt it too, I used to think S400 could intercept ballistic missiles, but now we've seen 1st hand how these sams underperform compeltely & seem easy to hit. Even Western systems that are good tho like IrisT or SampT, Nasams etc seem to have trouble downing ballistic missiles if we hear Ukraine. I think S3/400 is barely reliable to down any kind of missiles, especially like Scalps or Atacms, Taurus etc that are harder to intercept. if Ukraine launches 4 they may intercept 1, but result will be same.

Americans just gave there entire inventory of long range ATACMS thousands of them. USA has made these since early 90’s so there’s a very large inventory. Now that the new ATACMS replacement is being manufactured they have no need for these.

ATACMS have been made for several decades and production this year went from 500 to 550. As there are about 10 countries that have bought them in the past and not used them, they also could donate them to ukraine, and many of them wont make a public statement that they have. remember as well all rockets and missiles have a shelf life and probably are sent off for disposal after 20 years, so america maybe saving money by sending older ATACMS to Ukraine, and just replacing them with newer models. I see no issues with americas and allies giving 1,000 ATACMS every year if they want to. And when you consider that USA has made tens of thousands of them, and only 560 were documented as used by america by 2015, there are plenty to go around!

OMG ATACMS is fucking old missile, it is slower than any Russian missile of the same class, ofc it get easily shot down by modern Russian air defense, which are designed to shoot down faster targets, just check the Iskander - it is twice as fast. Remember the bigger and slower the easier it get shot down. At Least standart HIMARS missiles get 6 missiles per launch, which complicates the interception, ATACMS is only 2 per launch with a significant interval between each launch, because of its size. The Russian ALWAYS povide evidence, they shot down HIMMARS missiles and jam them before, dont cry too much, in the meantime watch the destroyed Abrams getting delivered to Moscow.

I would imagine the S400 could intercept an ATACM missile but the propaganda from both sides means every announcement can be taken with a grain of salt.

The ball shown at 2:13 is not a part of an ATACMS missile. ATACMS submunitions are green in color and have ribs on it. A simple google search will show what a real ATACMS submunition looks like. I don't think they shot down anything if that grey ball is all that they are showing.
