- Welcome everyone to my review of the 2021 MG ZS.
This small/mid-sized SUV from the British brand boasts revised styling inside and out, new technology and safety kit. This MG ZS now boasts a 5 star safety rating!
Engines remain the same with a turbocharged 1.0 L petrol and a non-turbo 1.5 Litre.
The price of this new ZS has gone up but is it still bang for your buck??
Excellent no nonsense honest reviewer ! No jargon just plain speaking as though you were down the pub asking advice on a new car from an informed mate! Well done and thanks for posting.
"I'm 5"7 tall and 5"7 wide..." He won my subscription. What a great review.
I’m glad that catchphrase tickled you.
Welcome to the channel.
I got my brand new zs on the 9th of march 2023 exclusive. What a car same colour
Got mine 2 weeks ago, same colour but I got the 1.5 manual....Love it!
@@welshparamedichow does it drive? Is it enough power for like driving on the freeway?
I heard a lot of good things about this car and after seeing your review I went and bought this car today!
So far ..so good 🙏
Thank you for the comment Chris. I’m glad to hear you are enjoying your ZS and feel honoured that my review helped you put pen to paper.
Hi, what about mg zs after a year?
Hi, how's the zs been so far?
Hello my Daughter has the preface lift model on a 20 plate with no end of problems.
electric windows have a mind of their own and the stop/start isn't working properly.
The hand break has had to be adjusted twice and finally the car from time to time doesn't idle properly and is currently in with a MG garage.
One last thing if you take your car in for a problem make sure that you are not going to be charged if the garage doesn't find a fault like they did with my Daughter.
Iv had nothing but problems too, shocking cars
Great review as usual, Dave. With so much car for the money you can't help thinking that there has to be a catch so I'd be waiting to see how well it sells before buying it. A decent customer base would then be able to give meaningful feedback. A guy I know bought the original version and although very happy with it at first, he found the dealer couldn't fix a persistent engine problem so he parted with it after about a year at a significant loss. A definite one to keep an eye on though.
Virtually everything is made in China these days and this company make cars and parts for most major car brands.
This engine is developed with general motors.
Savvy knowledgeable buyers will buy this but badge snobs won't.
You pay youre price its youre money but I for sure would buy an mg zs.
The savings are unreal.
21 grand driveway for a ZS excite in Australia. Ridiculously cheap, don’t think there are any other cars that big for that cheap
Wonderful informative video!
I really really like this car for its price point. I drove it for a week in Australia and loved it; apart from some of the software niggles and satnav mistakes. As a Tesla owner, I think the MG ZS EV is value-for-money and has features that even my Model S does not have such as the blindspot indicators on the wing mirrors, great all-round visibility, heated seats, and rear window wiper. Also, the 7-year full warranty! I consider the MG ZS EV to be an ideal second EV for me; and I also recommend it to anyone who is considering an affordable family EV.
Thank you so much for your comment and enjoying the video. I completely agree that the MG is a wonderful and affordable electric SUV. This along with the four and five are definitely going to stir up the EV market. A number of mainstream manufacturers can definitely learn from what MG have done and can also bring to the market affordable electric vehicles. There is definitely no need for all or most electric cars to be expensive and out of reach for most families.
Very fair review! Recently bought one of these 1.0 Auto Exclusive with metallic paint brand new for comfortably under £20K from shopping around. Feels like we stole it at that price for the amount of car we got, it drives surprisingly well.
The only other contender was the Arona, but if you want folding mirrors, heated seats and a camera in that its top spec. only for £5000 more than the MG, also the MG interior is now better than the Seat which is the worst plastic and the MG has the a proper SUV raised seat feel. The Arona just felt like a normal hatchback, to fair pretty much what it is, an Ibiza with some cladding. Also the MG is substantially roomier.
How the car??
For £20k + I would hope for better MPG. What is the synthetic leather seating material like? Is it sweaty non breathable material as used in cars in the 1970’s? Also is the panoramic sliding roof from the Electric version an option on this model.
Will be interesting to see what the resale value will be and whether it will be better looking for a used version of the 2021 model after six months or so.
Good review. Website states you can get the 1.0T with a 6-speed manual as well now. This comes with the sunroof. Does the car have climate control yet? They also need to offer an 18” alloy option. Really need to offer better engines as well. There are other engine options available outside the UK.
Great review to kick off the year - Happy New Year!
Probably the best most honest car review I've ever seen. Most reviewers slander the mg but I genuinely think it's badge snobbery.
Great review 👌🏻👌🏻
Quite underrated channel.
Wish u get million subscribers soon.👍🏻
Nice review Dave lovely car the ZS SUV👌👌👌👌👌👌MG have come a long way see a few on the road now and the HS model
Did I see they are doing a six speed manual version for the 1.0 turbo for the UK?
Nice review Dave, clear and informative. I think value for money they are great. A lot of kit for the price, I'd have to agree the exclusive would be the one to go for.
For the mid bin, for 2021 I have "NEWISH MG ZS" Aussies got 'em too, and the growth is not quite exponential, but well on the way. Happy New Year 2021.
I’ve just ordered this exact car but in the black Pearl colour because of your review 😊. You were/are spot on with your comments, I’m not a car snob and only remember the MGs of old like the midget and the MGBGT which were gorgeous cars in my opinion. Anyway, you have a new subscriber and a fan. Thank you 🙏.
How is it going now? Like the car?
Hi will you be reviewing the phev version cheers
Cracking review thanks👍
You’re most welcome. Thank you for the kind comment.
When you consider that the Dacia Duster cant get anywhere near the specification and quality of the interior and you cannot have a sunroof on any Dacia let alone a panoramic one yet its only around 10% more expensive and the finance looks better.
I looked at the EV model earlier today though I was wanting the petrol 6 speeder as I don't think there are enough charging points yet for a real world 200 mile range.
The interior was the same and to be honest I was blown away by the fit finish and quality it was more in line with a much more upmarket brand.
Seriously considering one of these and with a 7 year 80000 mile warranty there is a lot to think about and even the exterior its a damn good looking car in the metal, I was very surprised.
would have been nice if you put up litters and km as well.
Hi there Mr Guy.
I do mention litres with the boot capacity. I can look to place KM in the description in the future?
Hello :) would you by any chance be able to do an MG HS and MG ZS comparison please? Or does anyone know of any videos that do this comparison?
Great review I really like how you go into the things people actually care about rather than slating the hard plastics. If your looking at this car, do u really mind?. Thanks to this channel I chose my new motability car as a disabled person the review of the mg hs helped me make my mind up so again ty
Great review 👍
Sir review on Skoda vision in thanks
Going to pick up our new MG ZS at the weekend, glad I saw this review am now looking forward even more to collecting it, many thanks 😄
How have you found it? We are thinking of buying one.
What think.
Hi, how's the zs been so far?
Great review Dave one thing you mentioned your review of the new Skoda Octavia but cannot find it on your playlist.
Hi Peter. The Octavia is being edited as I type and will be on the channel very soon. Looking at next weekend.
@@AutoBears Thanks for replying Dave looking forward to seeing your report
Would be interested to see what you think of the facelift Hyundai I30 if you get chance to review one.
A Good fair review, well done.
Good review, getting mine delivered next week.
I'm considering the MGs after years of owning a Mazda 3 Takara (special edition). Being very choosy. Many thanks for the comprehensive review.
Think about it, seriously
MG zs plus 1liter 2021 in Australia come with android play ?
Great review and am very tempted from it.Thanks.
Great review thanks 👍
Have you done a review on the six speed manual exclusive
I haven’t yet Ben.
I’ve just reviewed the HS PHEV and will see what MG have to offer.
Great video. Did they changed the car animation on the dashboard ? I could swesr it was static snd boring st the beginning. Now its like on the side. Like in the mercedes car. Nice. Update?
It could very well be an update. I would check with your main dealer to find out.
Finally the review has arrived 🙌🏾🙌🏾
Great review. I'll be picking one up as soon as my loan is approved 😊
My car is 2 years old and the clutch as gone well l presumed its clutch not gear box we have to pay to have it towed to Mgs garage l dont know if its covered by warranty
You said that the auto is turbo, would a P1 be able to drive it in qld Australia
Are MG ZS cars durable and reliable? Thank you!
They come with an industry best 7 years warranty. That's a confident stance on their product.
😂🤭 try get one repair on warranty let me know how you get on !?!?
Iv owned one for 2 years nothing but problems
How many model about mg zs you have mate ,so can you show me more please?
Really helpful and clear review, has helped me finally make the decision to go ahead with it. Your conversation on this was spot on with what I was looking for in a review so thank you for being no nonsense and genuine about the pro and cons.
As a company car driver I have to be careful on value and co2 and this is matched in costs to the Hyundai Kona hybrid. Would you consider doing a review on that?
Does the new styling carry over to the EV?
It will eventually. I’m hearing late 2021 for the possible revised EV.
I,ve only seen a few ZS's on the road. I,ve been to a dealer during lockdown & had a walk round outside & liked what I saw. I was going to order one, but then found out the Exclusive does NOT, & is NOT available with a sunroof, if you want the Auto box ,but is available with the cheaper Manual box version. How odd. Surprised the review didnt mention it. So I will NOT be buying one.
Exactly the reason I won't be buying one. Seems ridiculous you can have it on the lower spec model but not the Exclusive. It should at least be an option.
How did you find the drivers seatbelt in the ZS?
No glass roof?
Nice review
Are they updating the EV too?
The EV will be updated soon but it’s easier to start with the IC cars.
Plus there’s no slow down with the current ZS EV sale rate.
Say about driving pleasure . Vw tcross or mg?
Great review
Thank you so much Robert.
Does it have apple CarPlay?
What is the use of usb port near the mirror?
Thank you for your comment.
It’s for a dash-camera.
@@AutoBears Thank you
Has the mg as exclusive have voice recognition and how do you connect your phone to the system
Via USB I believe.
And the residual value…I wonder 🤔
Does anyone know please if a clutch is covered by warranty it's done 12000 miles 19 reg thanks
Hi Sandra. The MG comes with a 7 year warranty so should be covered. I would check with you local dealership.
Do this cames with camera parking where u can see where u parking live ? Thx
I test drove one recently and the exclusive model comes with rear parking camera. The excite model just rear sensors
What Chris says.
Are the seats comfortable?.
Hi David. The seats are comfortable but like the pre-facelift they lack lumbar support and under leg support if you have long legs. Something I don’t suffer with 🙂
Hope that helps.
@@AutoBears thanks, I am on 5ft4 😟😁
Nothing wrong with being on the shorter side!
@@davidtaylorbfd Sorry mate. kids booster seat cost extra.......
Nice review. Thorough and detailed as always.
But mate... those roads (and roundabouts) are possibly the worst in all of TH-camland.
Thank you for your comment. That is the joy of Milton Keynes. Luckily the next wave of videos will be in a different setting.
I just came here to see if there`s actually existing an gasoline version of the ZS.
I didn`t know they would make one. In Norway they sold a lot of the ZS. But of course the EV version. Most manufactories who don`t have an EV to sell are basicly bankrupt in Norway by now
Panoramic Sunroof isn't on it anymore ?
HOW DOES IT COMPARE WITH THE NEW GEN NISSAN JUKE?
Hi DJ. I’m sorry to report that I haven’t driven the new Juke yet. It’ll be on the list to try and review in 2021.
@@AutoBears My Juke has gone for rejection. Been faulty since brand new. A lot of problems with those cars
But how long do they last? As long as a Toyota or Mazda?
I have the same question.
They have a 7 year warranty, so that's something to think about.
@@gar7369 most new cars do tho…
@@gar7369 Some people say that the Chinese are smart and calculate very well. Cheap cars will operate very well in the warranty period, but will start to break after that :)
They heard you asking for the new name buddy..it’s called the MG ASTOR yet to release in Indian Markets soon ..💯👏
Are MGs reliable as japanese brands?
Hi Zep. Thank you for your question. The truth is at the minute they’re not. There have been a few reports of minor issues. But the 7 year warranty does mean you are covered for a long while.
I think this car copies the A class. The older design language was from Mazda and this is from Mercedes. Also, the rear lights on the MG HS resembles the BMWX1
Beautiful car
I've paid deposit for my model zs great reviews dave.gerry in Glasgow Scotland
My next car !ts wonderful !
Some good comments for the mg’s
🤦🏻♂️🤪 wait until a problem occurs then try get it done on the warranty… good look 😱😭😭
Mg cars are shite
14:15 "when you put your foot down...there's a nice response from the engine".
It literally did nothing
The engine did respond nicely for a 1ltr turbo.
heritage. screw it. I scrapped my 2005 ZS one week before my brother bought his 2021 ZS EV and I was a passenger for the first time yesterday. Nice with a new car, good equipment. BUT not the MG I was expecting. Plus for the GM brand comeback, but something a bit niftier and I will be considering getting one. And if they get around to a Rover comeback that would be even better. But a Rovery Rover.
infotainment led is so below the eyesight level... that might effect the safety while driving..
Its a huge same the ev version is stillmbased on mk1 not the update it will be october before this happens
Here’s hoping the rumoured range increase materialises in the update.
Longbridge starts production in a few weeks.
Slightly disappointing mpg figures but otherwise quite nice, I think I'd rather save a little more and go for the Honda crosstar
I think I may have gotten a better figure if I’d done a longer journey. But most of my driving was town and short journeys.
love mine its a 2024 1.5 engine a lot off car for the money battersea blue 400 miles at the mo
Great detailed review. Just a bit too long, too repetitive so could not watch to very end.
32mpg? I’ll keep my mk2 Focus for now. Much cheaper to buy and run than the MG!
This card awful, very plastic feel, made for small slim people, glove box is something you would have expected from Vauxhall in the 2008 period.
Honestly just don’t waste your money, I had this for 48 hours as a hire car and would rather walk.
It's gone from a Mazda front, to a Ford front.
Very disappointing economy, needs to be a big improvement
mazda 4 with golf steering wheel
Crappy little girls rickshaw
Not a fan?
++++++++++++++++MY NEXT CAR++++++++++++++OFF 2 MY MG DEALER I GO++++++++++++
Im from Vietnam
Hello Mr Len. I’m from the UK.
I had one on hire couldn't wait to hand it back ....tin can on wheels
However if you’re on a budget and need a large suv it could be the perfect car for you. Not to mention the 7 year warranty.
@@AutoBears that's a fair response
Xem review còn ngon hơn mấy ông VN, toàn seeder

Bloody hell mate, clean your cup holder before filming it...
The cup holder was clean!!

I run a garage and take on work from a dealer pal of mine, these things are rubbish!,the warranty is not worth the paper it's written upon,MG have re- written the book on excuses to get out of claims. I see stuff with less than a thousand miles on it,with PPF faults blamed on the way the car is driven????,electronics/electrical and software issues, the software its self is dreadful by European standards, having many glitches and faults which is very poor, bits of trim fall off and the keys break easily,it seems even MG are struggling to repair them judging by the amount of dealer stock that's less than a year old going through the auctions, all with faults! all stuff they have had to replace or refund according to a source at the auction, part prices while being ridiculously high are also a joke to obtain,we waited ten weeks for a new catalytic converter for a ZS that's done less than 10,000 miles at £1400+ ,save your money because the MG will be worth 50p by the time the worthless warranty is over, either buy something else used or if you must have a new cheap car buy a ssangyong, proton,Dacia or great wall instead, all are superior products and won't spend half their life with the bonnet up,the last family of MG's,the 25'45's etc. Were hardly known for their durability, but they were still better than these things.
Esta marca tiene una demanda colectiva por graves fallas mecánicas y la negativa de los concesionarios a responder por ello. Se ve bonito pero es una mierda.
