Love the videos, helped loads with my first year tench fishing I’ve used a worm kebab for tench twice and twice been bitten off by a pike 😂 back to maggots and casters for me!
I have a question pls Duncan. I have a gravel pit with a few old large Tench I want to have a go at. But they have a traditional close season. The lake is full of bream and carp also, is it worth angling for them early March and in summer?
I don't usually get the tench rods out till late April so would I target them by design in March probably not, however I fish Frensham Great Pond which also applies to the traditional close season, here I my findings.... As soon as this opens, June 16th you need to be on it and hopefully the tench won't have spawned, which usually they have. This isn't because they are bigger, but simply easier to catch, however the fishing can still be brilliant up till the first week in Aug when small fish make maggot/worm, even 8mm pellet fishing frustrating. Now this is something to consider. FGP has some big Rudd in it and a few years back I targeted these right through the winter on maggot and caught loads as well as loads of tench, I remember winding my rods in at 1am in January having caught 21 tench and needed some sleep. In winter they are very nocturnal, but get your location right and they can be caught.
Brave man to step over your rods!

Glad it was helpful. Worms can be a problem when pike are present, try using shorter sections of worms as its the movement that the pike home in on.

Ralph Lauren White trainers! Is that compulsory Tench clothing now?
That Tench was kept out of the water for to long for the voice over in my opinion. Longer than l'd like to be kept underwater.
All the gear no idea
That’s why I’ve given up on 2 rods.
