And Gallagher was only a touch behind him in most stats. Could argue had chelsea had a better season and better performances Gallagher would have outshone rice imo. To give you a point of view from a Spanish man, I think England has good players but aside from a few stars England has, most players are not head and shoulders above anyone else’s good players. The problem is that the expectations are unrealistic because of all the amazing marketing that the EPL has, you think because they play well in the EPL they are clearly the best. For example I doubt Rodri would get the praise he does as the best if he played at juve atleti or whoever, they’d just say he’s a good player.
Englands expectations should be to compete to possibly win and that’s exactly what Southgate is doing. Not to win every game like they 1970 2002 Brazil or 2012 Spain. Even here in Spain we are completely seduced by the EPL marketing
Well he wouldn’t be the best if he played at Juve or AM . Tbf Rodri is walking into any team in the tournament including England . Also I don’t think anyone thinks we have the best players but we have better technical players than before , but football is about hope and the longer you stick strong the more the hope grows , you have to remember how England used to do compared to now, they do seem to at least last a lot longer and get to semis .. when I was younger Spain always underachieved until they finally won something and continued doing that.

I would! Rice is well overrated its a crime! Doesn't control or dictate the game. Needs a good player next to him for him to work. His passing has been bang average this tournament. The amount of times he slows the game down and pings balls slightly behind the player, slowing the game up. So frustrating.

Wharton, (our only true DM), in front of a 4 man defence, now Shaw is back - with three ahead of Wharton, (two wingers and a 10), then two up top. like we did in '66.
The two wingers, we have the choice from Palmer, Saka, TAA, Bowen. ( I don't rate Gordon much - bit of a flapper).
The 10 is from Foden, Bellingham and Rice, and Bellingham clearly has the lead, but if he dips, there's the other two to cover admirably. The 10 also has to drop back to plug gaps when the opposition move up.
Drop Kane and play Toney and Watkins up front.
