So basically, a semicolon is used to combine two complete sentences that relate to each other and when an item in a list includes a comma (Paris, France; Rome, Italy; and Berlin, Germany); colons are used to introduce lists and other miscellaneous purposes

Well, both colons and semicolons can be used to link independent clauses. The difference is that the colon is used when it’s very closely related (basically, adding more detail) while a semicolon links two related sentences that you wish were one, but aren’t. For example,
Relationships are bound to cause heartbreak: love is messy.
I hate going to my Econ class; it’s hard to understand my lecturer.

Great comparison of the colon to a butler announcing something. I should already know all of this but studying up for new career and I have to know the fine details of all punctuation.

Here's a question for ya! In this passage, would the punctuation after 'football' be a colon or a semicolon? And would the punctuation after 'stretching' be a semicolon or a comma?
As a preschooler and early grade-schooler, my parents tried to get me to play almost every sport except for football; my team won a little league baseball championship, but I didn’t like it; I played a season of basketball in which I don’t think I scored a single point; I quit after the first day of both soccer and karate, because I didn’t have the fortitude to withstand their respective running and stretching, etc.
I would think that the one after 'football' would be a colon, but there were other sports not mentioned in the list, so to me, that would mean a colon is not appropriate. As for the one after 'stretching,' it seems unnecessary to use a semicolon to introduce 'etc.' Would you agree?
    All helps is appreciated! :)

    Kindly solve this question
Select the sentence that correctly uses a semicolon.
    (A) She loves cooking; her brother prefers baking
    (D) The store, where I buy my groceries, is closed to
(B ) There are three things to consider; the cost, the time; and the risk involved
( C) The cat slept through the storm; the dog, however, was restless (D) Both A and C correct

I'm not sure that the narrator was trying to perpetuate the idea that you all speak like that. Even if you did, I don't think there is anything wrong with it.
