I got the Komandirskie GMT for 80$. What a watch. 200WR, build like a tank and easy and nice to regulate. I though my Sinn 556 is a male piece. But compering it to the Vostok it's like a modern guy in tight pants, smoking e-cigarette and driving scooter compared to the bear driving Ural motorcycle across Siberia, drinking vodka and shooting AK 47 at the same time.
The AK-47 of watches. Rough, rattles, cheap to make but undeniably works as designed to. I have 3 and they are great. I did regulate all, now they work as accurately as any of my higher end Seikos. On a side note to those who question the quality... this was a roughly designed diver for soldiers, it never was intended for hobbyists comparing it to other watch brands. I saw a video on youtube of someone testing the depth pressure to something like 500m. While its not the prettiest watch with the finest parts, for what it was designed for it works great.
Exactly, excellent watch for the money, nothing fancy about it (besides from the dial) and yet does what it's supposed to. I believe that's what people love about it, rough, reliable and cheap
For the price, why not 🤔 If you dare to be different, buy one. It is a true beater watch. If you want, get a mesh bracelet from Vostok. Great value as well. Good review Olivier
I have 3 amphibias, the hands are the same on all models, so my guess is that they had to compromise for the hands length to be ok regardless of the faceplate installed.
Great review of the technical aspect of the watch. They have different types of case, some nicer than others. They also have a very interesting 24h dial and movement... These are great for the money.
Thank you very much my friend. Yes I hesitated a lot with the other case types, but they are so inexpensive that it's easy to get another case model 😁. That 24h bezel looks nice indeed, I'll have a closer look!
btw. You can hack your Amphibia. You have to pull out the crown to the position where you can adjust time and then put a little pressure on the crown . The second hand will stop.
The bracelet while properly adjusted is fine to wear, and i have the one you have, it’s not the most hair pulling one, one of my amphibias have a different bracelet that did pull hair while lose on my arm, once i adjusted it no more pulling.
I agree the second hand is far too short. Strangely, the 200m Komandirskies have a longer second hand in a very similar case as the Amphibias. I think the movements take a few weeks of regular use to settle down before it is worth regulating them. Bin the strap and start enjoying your Vostok 👍
Hi before you start adjusting this for time you should set the lift angle at 42 degrees not 52 degrees as shown in the video as this is recommended by Vostok and will help with accuracy.
The current 059 dial can vary quite a bit in colour. Mine is much greener than your version. It can vary from blue through teal to quite green. The earlier version of the blue scuba dial was a blue sunburst which I think is better looking. Thanks for your careful review!
Great review. Yes, these Vostoks are quirky. Definitely not designed to be chronometer...LOL. Let it run for a month, wear it as a daily for a bit to "beat it in" which is different that "break it in" LOL, then use the timegrapher. You will likely see better numbers. Not great, but...better. Then try to regulate it. Several people on the forums state that they have had luck getting to 5 or 7 seconds a day.
When you tray to pull the bezel pulling with your finger do not move at all. When you try to push, first you have to make pressure again the cage of the watch and then push. Any object that hit the bezel, only going to do one, o make pressure o push. But in the rate case that do bough going to move the bezel very few, that will not case any problem. But 10 meters under water will be totally impossible move the bezel.
In fact, the vostok is like the story of the ballpoint pen and the pencil if you know it (despides the fact that this story is false) A piece of ussr common sense and practicality. For a few bucks, you get a tool, a piece of history and an handfull of inhouse ingeneering. They are what they are, a tool watch made to be worn and abused.
Totally! And yes I do know that story, I, always wondered if it was true or not. What I just found out is that the Americans bought pencils 130 dollars apiece in 1965 for the space program! Might as well have spent that money on a program to develop a space watch 🤣
The bracelet is clearly the weak point of the Scuba Dude, which remains fantastic for the price. Could be a perfect beater with an Aliexpress rubber strap.
They are out of stock at the moment, but these Vostok mesh straps are excellent quality. I’ve only seen them in Meranom. They are about $12 bucks. If you’re logged into your Meranom account you can set a restock alert. meranom.com/en/amphibian-classic/bracelets/mesh-bracelet-18mm-b.html
the bezel is so good. Do you see how easy you set using two finger? Well, try to set it using only one. Umh! Bad Idea, you can not set it. Why because you use to finger to move the bezel with one you push, with the other you pull. But any object that hit the bezel going to be in only one direction :)
I made the mistake of buying this watch and taking it swimming. No, not diving.. swimming. Came out of the water and the dial developed some condensation. The people that fawn over this watch's value, most likely have not taken it into the water. It's worthless as a dive watch in my experience.
Darn, that's tough news 😔. I guess it has to do with the system that is more water resistant as more water pushes on it. The same thing happened to Omega in the 60s with their Naiad crown. A watch that you can dive with but not swim with 🤔

I have the same watch on a rubber strap. I've had it for year and it keeps time accurately. I like it.
Fantastic in-depth review! I have to get a Vostok sooner or later there’s just something about them that attracts me to them!
Thank you very much!
Do get one, you will not regret it and if ever you do that's only a 50$ regret 💵
Horologique Thats part of the appeal. So reasonably priced and a good solid watch!👍🏻

What an excellent review. Just ordered one ... a bargain at £53 .... & I quite like the look of the bracelet too.
Thank you very much 😁. It's an excellent watch indeed and a bargain, glad you got one. The bracelet is perfect as long6as your arm isn't hairy
For the price, why not 🤔

Thank you very much Nico!

I'm totally OK with that as long as it helps keep the price down 😉

@@Horologique it is the mouvement, the hour hand does only one turn of the dial per day!!
@@johnmuthan286 👍👍
Great! I own the exact same model, including dial color.

I like mine too. There is no usable lume, but with the polished indices you can make out time pretty easily provided you’re not in a total blackout.
The bracelet while properly adjusted is fine to wear, and i have the one you have, it’s not the most hair pulling one, one of my amphibias have a different bracelet that did pull hair while lose on my arm, once i adjusted it no more pulling.

I will wait for it to settle down, thanks for the advice!
@@Horologique wait for 1 month. I waited till then until I saw a consistent deviation in accuracy of the watch for about a week
@@waris3732 I shall do that, thank you 😁

Thank you, I'll try that ! That's why I get better real world accuracy than the readings, you learn everyday 👍
Really want to purchase this. But due to the war they no longer can accept paypal visa etc payment!!!

Thank you for your comment! I didn't know they could vary in colour. I love the shade of blue in mine. Lovely watches nonetheless 😊
@@Horologique Agreed. I have really gotten into Vostoks and have a number of them and have started modding them with custom hands, bezels and dials.

I've been looking at these for months and would love to get my hands on this model, but it's getting difficult to find it for under $100
I hope they'll be back in stock at Meranom or Vostokinc... They are right above the $50 mark

I was thinking about that but the 18mm strap makes that a bit tricky, most of my rubber straps are 20 or 22

Everybody hates on the bracelets. My experience is good with them. Cheap and rattle a great deal, but smooth edges.
As far as i know the movement is a 2416b (with date) or 2415 (no date)
Thanks for the correction 👍

Set your bezel, and use your watch for one week and your bezel will not move. Period, end of discussion. Bezel do great job!

My amphibia stopped working after a year. Cool but shoddy watch.
Damn! Did you send it back under warranty?
There's a warranty and spare parts are so cheap. What did you do ?
I have this same watch, too thik, I don't like it,the bracelet is garbage I use the movement to learn how to service
I like the scuba dude dial but all the rest is pretty crap imo
