When you do a mod video like this please discuss how you came to find the correct size parts and how you made sure - for example - that the bezel you bought will for the manufacturer’s case.
I am so glad I watched your Vostok Europe video and it lead me to this video. I have been interested in the Vostok Amphibian for a while now, but I am not a fan of the bezels. Knowing I can try these mods makes all the difference. Really helpful and great video. Please keep it up and Thank you.
Nice mod Oleg. I have done several to Vostoks also and your end result is excellent. The watch retains it’s Vostok ‘soul’ but now has a more completed look.
I was considering buying a stainless steel brushed bezel for my Vostok Amphibia but after seeing your video, I may just do the brushing on the original bezel and call it a day. It looked much better and less cheap looking.
I removed the chrome on my Amphibia's bezel by leaving it in muriatic acid overnight (it can be bought at any hardware store). It removes the chrome, but not the paint. Now I have a brass colored bezel. It's a good mod for someone that wants the look of a bronze watch.
@@matthewdavis8199 Saw another video where the guy did this and he recommends 10% muriatic acid to water. Not sure how low to leave it in though, would probably check on it every few hours to be safe.
Some muriatic acids mention the percent of acid it has related to water, did you used pure acid or it was a diluted solution? Also how many hours you left it?
Greetings Oleg & Bond! Another entertaining & informative video! I have done plenty of strap changes on most of my watches, and I've done bezel changes on a few, including my Vostoks. However, I learned something valuable with your brushing technique on polished sides using this common kitchen scrub sponge, and I can't wait to try it out! Very cool effect! Thanks my friend!
Thank you! I'm glad you like the brushing. I think it turned out really well and you don't have to spend much money to achieve the look. All the best, Oleg and Bond.
Great How-To video Oleg!!! I love my Vostoks, and love being able to mod them even more!! Using the green "Scrubee" pad is a super easy way to give the polished surfaces a brushed appearance. So far I've done many mods to my Vostoks. From the simple things like changing bezels, crowns, and straps, to even changing dials, arms, and movements. I have to say that the hardest part of all this has always been snapping the darn bezels back on. ARGGHHH!! Most videos I watch make snapping the bezel on look like....well, a snap!! For me, once I have that bezel on...I need something a lot stronger than a banana....Hah! I have learned to expect grief and possibly replacing a damaged spring wire if I kink it while trying to snap the bezel on. Needless to say...I have plenty of spare wires (and shots of my favorite calming fluid). I did find that squeezing the wire down to make it somewhat smaller diameter has helped the last few times I've replaced bezels. Anyways...thanks for doing a fantastic video and I hope you do more of these!!
Thank you! Impressed that you did so many mods. You're right snapping the bezel back in place was a challenge. I actually had to do it off camera. Maybe try using the case back closer tool (they are like $15 on eBay). All the best, Oleg.
i'm glad i saw the video because i may be doing this to a vostok i will be getting soon. i like the brushed stainless steel look over the shiny chromium look. thnx.
"Yours might struggle, don't worry it happens to every man, just wiggle it a little!" Haha great advice my friend. Super video as always hopefully will give people new to modding a helping hand. Must admit I've never modded and not sure I would. But it can be a great addition to a collection. Enjoy your Vostok Oleg edition ⌚👍
Thank you Chris! Finally, someone picked up on that joke lol I'm happy with how the watch turned out but I can appreciate that modding watches is not for everyone. All the best, Oleg.
I have this same model. The watch looks much better in real life than it does in the photo. The bezel it comes with is nice. So is the strap. I won't be changing mine at all. The Bezels are over priced at around 25 dollars each. We know that the metal bracelets are terrible so I bought a model with the rubber strap. The rubber straps are quite nice.
I really like the mod - makes the Vostok look cool and unique. I particularly like the brushing - it turned out quite nice.Thank you for sharing the process with us Oleg :)
Just did something similar inspired by this video. On a similar vostok 420 (basically same as this but with a black scuba diver instead of a white one and the "dots" bezel) I brushed the bezel. Used the metal nail file from a nail clipper. It did the trick! Thanks for the idea!
I am enjoying your videos very much! One suggestion would be to add more light when you work on watches. Seems like you are working in the shadows. Stay healthy and safe!
Awesome bro, very well explained and made tutorial. I kind of liked the shiny Vostok but as well great mod, easy done. Well done my friend, greetings and keep up the good work 👍🏻🙏🏻
Very cool! I'm waiting for a Komandirskie (with 24 hours dial) I ordered a few days ago, I'll consider modding it if I ever get bored with it. No doubt it changed your amphibian completely! I have only one question - is the banana an integral part of the process or can I use an apple or a guava instead?
Thanks for a really good empowering video that makes Vostok watch modding feel do-able. That said, I would have liked to see more of the watch with the original bezel after brushing plus the rubber strap as I suspect I would prefer the more engineered tooly looking outcome. Come to think of it, I would also like to see the case fully brushed. I guess a further video is to come where your confidence extends to swapping out the dial to something that more closely coordinates with the bezel you have chosen and I look forward to seeing that (hopefully). Anyway, I'm enjoying your channel immensely - thank you.
Thank you David. Glad you enjoyed the mods videos. I think this was a good experiment and an introduction to modding an Amphibia. I'm sure there will be more mod videos in the future. All the best, Oleg.
Nice modding ^^! If You want to make the case more satin, You can use 1000-1200 sand papers for little polish ;) I satinized VE GAZ-14 case with sandpapers and polishing the lunette with polish paste ;)
Nice mod Oleg! The brushing turned out very nice. I'm not sure if I want to brush my 420 case lugs and leave the sides polished, or the other way around :) Just followed your IG
Thank you my fiend and thanks for the follow! That's a tough one. I like the look of brushed lugs and polished sides but I think the other way around would look really cool as well.
Super results! I wish there was a comparison of a blue dial & Pepsi bezel 2 o'clock crown Vostok to a blue dial & Pepsi bezel 4 o'clock Seiko. BTW IMHO A bead blasted, traditional 1-12 / 13-24 military black dialed Komandirskie 'field watch' should be a Vostok product.
Thanks Richard. Maybe practice on a cheaper watch before the SKX. Good luck and let me know how it turned out (if you do end up doing it). All the best, Oleg.
woaw, love modding stuff but never tought about modding watches. Darn Oleg, now i just want to mod watches! :):) ...Crap, I don't have any bananas left! Btw, grat job, it looks way cooler than the standard amphibia! I was just wondering if maybe it was faster to disassemble the movement and the crystal, just to avoid the tapeing and to have only the case in the hands to work on
Thank you my friend. Removing the case back and the movement is pretty easy but I wouldn't remove the crystal. You don't want to compromise the water resistance:) All the best, Oleg. ps. Good luck with your new modding addition ;)
Hey Oleg, I plan on grabbing this same Amphbia because it matches my style, I plan on modding it too and I would love to hear your thoughts on my mod plans: same bezel as you went with, Tudor style snowflake hands, display case back and put a blue Vario Harris Tweed strap on it.
blue for the strap maybe grey. Since I have a blue tweed blazer already I think that will look best. I have a lot of blue in my wardrobe in general actually. If they ever release it in a dark purple I would grab that.

Greetings from Mississippi USA. Watch looks great. Just got an amphibia. Took 5 min to change my bezel after watching this. Good job.

Cool tip and a quick mod. Exposed brass bezels are popular now. I've seen a couple of mods with that look. All the best, Oleg.
