  • I guess I wanna show off my new stream setup?
    Feel free to join the discord, and check out the stream!!!
    Equipment:
    • Mic: Electro-Voice RE20 || Used for streaming, voice overs, and other stuff
    • Mixer: Yamaha MG12XUK || Mixing Audio so I can maintain audio levels when I stream, without having to change programs all the time. Also, the cool effects are fun
    Basic descriptions of stuff:
    • Gain: Adjusts the mic sensitivity (Kinda like the ISO of a camera; Too much gain means lots of gross noise saturating your sound)
    • Compression: Lessens the dynamic range between the loudest and quietest parts of the audio signal
    • EQ: Equalisers - Adjusts the balance between frequency
    • FX: Fancy pants effects :^)
    • Pan: Change the leftness/rightness of the audio signal
    • Level: Changes the strength of an audio signal (So, the volume)
    Fun times

    Thx for this. I can find rack ears for the 12XU, but not the 12XUK. Any thoughts?

    Don't is necessary the Cloudfilter (preamp) between Electro Voice RE-20 and the mixer? Did you connect the RE-20 directly to the mixer (channel 1)?

    Some reviews have said the USB output is low. Do you see that with your mixer?

    Hi Timetravel, I'm getting close to upgrading my set up (I'm currently using a Blue Yeti and some Astro A40's including the mixamp) and I'm curious about a few functions. Probably my favorite thing about the Astro A40 Mix Amp is that I'm able to mix both my PS4 audio and my PC audio simultaneously - how easy/possible is that with the MG10XU? I could plug both the PS4 and PC into that mixer and have the sounds that I wanna be able to hear? Or would that be something that is more for something like a GOXLR? Also, how much gain output is there with the MG10XU? Would I need a CL-1 for the RE-20/SM7-B?

    • @TimeTravelPenguinTAS
      @TimeTravelPenguinTAS  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      A mixer mixes audio inputs for a levelled output. So, if you have pc audio AND PS4 audio, you can mix them both and level them for output. You would have to listen to all audio if you're plugging your headphones through the mixer, however. The RE20 AND SM7B most definitely require a CL-1, as this mixer would likely induce self noise.

      @@TimeTravelPenguinTAS Awesome, thanks for the quick reply. Regarding setting up the PS4 audio, would I just need an optical cable converter to make it work with the mixer? I plan to still use my Astro headphone mic to talk on my PS4, so I don't have much of a reason to connect my microphone to the PS4 at all (although I might connect the blue yeti).

      @@noahslinker8185 I highly recommend using a HDMI Splitter to split the audio of the ps4

    An Amazon reviewer said that the USB output was not affected by the master level. Is that true? If true, how do you control the USB level?

    • @tremelo75
      @tremelo75 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s true. If I run it into my phone I use an app that has a gain meter to adjust

    If i buy a mg12xu and a solid xlr mic. Do i need a preamp or external soundcard for high quality sound for my stream ?

    • @TimeTravelPenguinTAS
      @TimeTravelPenguinTAS  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The MG XU brand has a built-in USB interface which allows seamless communication between the mixer and PC. If you go with the non-XU brand, then you will be required to have a soundcard that can handle the appropriate specifications, which I am not knowledgeable in.
      Both the MG and MG-XU mixers have built-in preamps into their tracks, so no other external preamp is required for standard use.

      more for people coming across it but xlr mic need s a reamp to be powered a mixer or audio interface regardless of if its a analog or xlr mic is going to have a preamp but not all preamp are equal some preamp get noise aka that static or white noise after a certain point is partiucalrly relvent when using a mic like the re20 or sm7b with a poor preamp when a cloud lifter or mic activated isnt being used a mic activater is used to convert phantom power into gain witch what dynamic microphone need vs condesnor mics which just need 48v+ phantom power

    Hey just wondering I just bought my second Pc and I have the mg12xu and I’m trying to do the 2 Pc setup but I’m trying to have my discord my music my alerts basically have everything on its own channel so I can mix the volume on the fly is this possible also how can I do this?

    • @TimeTravelPenguinTAS
      @TimeTravelPenguinTAS  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      To an extent. One pc can output two tracks to a mixer. One via the USB, and one via an auxiliary. So, you can do, say, discord through the MGXU USB output, and alerts through an aux output. Then, you can do game capture from your gaming pc via aux, too.

    Few question:
    Does this work on windows 7?
    Can I hear the audio output from channel 1 to the computer?

    • @TimeTravelPenguinTAS
      @TimeTravelPenguinTAS  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's been a while since I used win7, but the idea is the same. Just goto your sound settings, and change the default recording and listening devices.
      As for "can I hear the audio output from channel 1 to the computer?", I'm not sure what you mean.
      If you mean to ask if you can separate ch1 of the mixer for the pc without the other channels, then only if you use the FX/AUX SEND output.
      This entire video tutorial is more or less interchangeable between win7, win8, and win10, as they are almost identical.
      If you need assistance changing your default sound device, just google the instructions, and I'm sure you can find a guide with ease.
