  • Moving up tire sizes? Want to permanently turn off Stop/Start? How about swapping over to LED bulbs? No matter what modification you are making to your 2020 Jeep Gladiator, you'll likely need to let your Jeep's computer know to have everything functioning correctly. On this episode of Inside Line, our Senior Off-Road Editor Ali Mansour dives into the most advanced programmer currently on the market from Z Automotive.
    It's called the Tazer JL Mini and it's essentially a cheat code for your Jeep. While moving up to a 35x11.50R17 Nitto Trail Grappler on his 2020 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon, Ali dives into the changes needed to get the speedometer reading correctly and allow the Jeep to shift properly.

    Just got mine installed following his directions. Works great! I've set the horn off several times already with the remote in my pocket and some how pushing the panic button. I turned this off right away using the Tazer. The tire size option is great also. No more 5 mph off just because I'm running 35s. Thank you for the helpful video!!

    the issue with the stop / start is not how much fuel it saves but the excessive ware on your starter if you city drive most of the time so now you may be putting 5 or 6 times the daily, monthly, yearly use on that starter, and a dealer starter is probably over $200.00 so for that reason alone I always disable it.

    I hope someone has said this. Simply pull the module, plug the cables back in and get the service done. You maintain changes, (e.g. tire size), but lose live functions. When you get back from the dealer, reconnect the Tazer.

  • @rcud1

    So seems more of a bypass switch than a programmer which is good and if you remove and it reverts to default, shouldn't be any dealership problems I wouldn't think. But if you had larger tires on it and that messes up your shifting, I wonder if you had a transmission problem if dealer could blame your larger tires ?

    The Tazer is awesome. Love it get rid of the start/stop/ Annoying starting and stopping a Diesel engine. I do have a few issues when using the Tazer when trying to unlock the rear locker and or the front locker in High. On the beach, I usually put into 4 High and run the rear locker. This is a perfect combination in deep sand. The issue when I am done and want to unlock the locker. I get a continuous blinking. I usually have to turn the diesel engine off then turn back on and drive 50 ft and then it shows unlock.
    the next time I engage the rear locker in 4 High, I will push the traction control button first to disengage traction control to see if this helps. I have also completed and updated with the latest version.

      @@DrivingLine last night, I re loaded the latest update and all works fine including the winch RPM. Lockers work perfectly as well. This tazer makes this Jeep so much more capable with using the rear locker in 2 wd and using rear locker and or both lockers in 4WD high with the diesel. The diesel has too much torque to run in 4 low. Tazer is awesome for this diesel.

    • @DrivingLine

      If it's not showing, it's likely that you turned the TMPS Off instead of lowering the tire threshold. If you look in the menu, you will see the option to turn it back on and you can input the air pressure that you want there. If that doesn't work, you may have an issue with your wheel sensors.

      I live in the coastal plains and most of the posted speed limits around me are 45 or 55. Those are great speeds to get decent fuel economy with these Jeeps. Anything over 65 and my fuel mileage was usually around 16 on those 35s.

    I just recently regeared my gladiator to 5:13s (a night and day difference on these 37’s) my question here is: If i go in for a service, something as simple as an oil change/tire rotation (i have 4 free services left with jeep wave) and i un-marry the tazer will this cause an issue with the gearing, drivability to and from or just during the service itself.. i.e.. they drive it around back and it just bricks..

    • @DrivingLine
      @DrivingLine  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would assume it would cause the Jeep to shift odd and speedometer to be off. I would recommend telling them that you have the module and you will remove it if they need to plug in the Jeep for any reason. That's what I have done with my service department and it has not been an issue.

    why does it need to be updated if you switch from stock halogen to LED? is there a difference in the power or something?

    • @DrivingLine
      @DrivingLine  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Essentially, the Jeep's computer is looking for a certain amount of voltage draw from that light. When it leaves the factory, the computer is programmed to let it know if it has LED's or halogens since the draw will be different between the two. Just swapping in a different light without letting the computer know can give you a light error code.

    • @JdVids_

      Talked to someone at a Jeep dealership that specializes in upgrades. They said when using a different programming for recalibration (tazer mini), it switches the sales code in the computer for the tires/wheels (paraphrasing) and the at can show up at a dealership which could void your warranty if you have issues related to the new tires/lift kit, etc… he wasn’t too clear on it, but he mentioned they use “mopar programing” when adding a new lift and tires and recalibrating them so the computer doesn’t doesn’t change its default “codes”.
      Hope this helps a bit, still not 100%, also that guy could’ve been BSing me a little cause the programming cost was essentially $0 if I purchased a lift kit with new wheels and tires from them… so not sure, still searching the internet for clarity 😅

      @@AndrewBaynard It’s a risk, there’s no doubt about it. However, I’ve owned and modified quite a few late model Jeeps that were still within the factory warranty timeframe. Now, it’s possible that this may depend on the dealership you are interacting with, but what I have learned over the years is that you’re only voiding the warranty on the product you are modifying. In this case, I wouldn’t expect FCA to replace my totally integrated power module since I have clearly gone into it. However, an engine failure that’s mechanical in nature or something silly with the air conditioning to stop working, in my experience, that will still all be covered.

      @@fiftyshadesofurban The Tazer isn’t really a programmer in a traditional sense. It’s basically just allowing you to modify parameters the same as the dealership would be able to via the TIPM.

    • @ernesttaylor967
      @ernesttaylor967 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well that is how it should be. This is how it is: They decide they don't want to make the repair, something like misfire on cyl. #2. They say the problem was caused by your programmer. It is now up to you to prove it was not. They say you have to take it up with the regional office. The regional office tells you the decision of the dealer ship is final.

    I understand that I have to "take out" the Tazer before I take my jeep to the dealership. But, before I take it to the dealership do I have to:
    un-marry it (electronically) AND physically remove it? or
    just physically remove it (without having to un-marry it electronically)? or
    just un-marry it (electronically) without having to physically remove it?
    thanks for any insight

    • @DrivingLine
      @DrivingLine  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you just physically remove the device, they will likely still be able to see that you’ve modified parameters, but that’s not a big deal. If you unmarry it, it will be like it was never there. I’ve had to take my Gladiator in a couple of times for warranty work. I just tell the service adviser that it’s on there and it has not been a problem for me. It will probably depend on the dealership.

    im not sure why anyone would by the Tazer at that crazy cost when could have got a cheap $30 Veepeak and the JSCAN app for another $30. Then you have an app on your phone that you can see and input these settings million times better. Not saying Tazer is bad but for the cost and function 100% get JSCAN and a BT OBS2 module

    • @DrivingLine
      @DrivingLine  12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The JScan is great. I have it as well. It’s very helpful for troubleshooting. The Tazer can actually do a few things that the JScan can’t and vice versa. For example, with a Tazer, you can put the 392 Wrangler into 2WD. You can also map your steering wheel with functions with the Tazer. If you’re just trying to change tire size and gear ratio, JScan is fine. If you’re going to be diving further in the modifications, I think the Tazer is still the better investment.

      @DrivingLine Jscan isn't just for tires and minor things. I've changed gear ratios, LED Lights, Fogs always on, Auto start/stop off, etc..etc. Plus use as diagnostic while driving to see misfires, Boost, air mass flow and anything else you would want. Literally can do anything a jeep owner wants

    If you take it in for service you best unmary and remove it cuz if they know you have it it will void your warranty

    • @DrivingLine

      I actually tried it that way as that's how I have done it with programmers in the past (AEV ProCal, JKS Flashpaq etc.). It actually reads more accurately the way I described it in the video. I have two Gladiators, both with this same module. I think I've swapped five sets of tires between them both doing it the same way. But, hey, what do I know....
