"the threats of deportation have had little effect." That's because so far it's just threats. They (the British) haven't done the actual deporting yet. Once they do, it will definitely stop--or at least reduce--the number of boats coming to the UK
As to the Sudanese medical student, having one's studies interrupted by the outbreak of war is NOT grounds for asylum. He should return to Sudan.

Why are you providing Housing and Feeding them? You don't own them a living. No Passport and Visa, straight into Jail.
Back in 2022 the UK government changed the law (put in place by Labour under Blair) to state that entering the UK without a valid visa (for example by a rubber boat) is a criminal offence, punishable by up to 4 years in prison. However they then realised they didn't have the court resources to prosecute all of those people, so they back tracked and said they will only enforce the law if the person has done it a second time after being previously refused asylum.
If you look at the websites of UK based refugee charities, they are cheering this 'backing down' as a victory.
A lot of misdirected hate, the UK government is the one that makes the immigration laws/policies.
Who is to blame?
The politicians and political parties that create the laws/policies.
The people that elect those parties and put them in power (Tory/Labour voters, you have supported this with your vote).
The migrants themselves. Most are not asylum seekers, but economic migrants who want to exploit the UK and liberalism of the British people. The few that are genuine refugees should have stopped in a neighbouring (safe) country, not travelled across half the world to reach Britain.
