This is why people who arfe becoming police officers need to be severely vetted and have psychological assessments before being hired. They should also be require to have dsome kind of higher education not just high school. If you're reaching to the point of using the worst racial slurs, you should momentarily take a break and seek professional help. Only escalations come out from angry racial slurs. There are proper outlets to maintain everyday rage from spilling to that point: martial art classes, anger management exercises, etc. But if you can't handle the stress from the job without escalating and "using one's mouth," then it's time to look at another job where you cannot "use one's vehicle" when in rage and neither a gun as well.
The fact that cops will behave this way knowing full well they are being recorded tells you all you need to know about that department. She’s not the only one - just the one who got caught by an outside source.

I'm always amazed at cops whining their job is hard when it doesn't even make the top 10 hardest jobs. Delivery drivers and nursing home staff have harder jobs. And they don't get a pass for being discriminatory or abusive (nor paid nearly so much either).

On one hand, nobody was hurt by this incident - in the moment. On the other, if she had been working a regular job she would have already been fired. For most of us, saying racist things while on the clock means termination. Also, she caused a lot of harm to her police department. Everyone is now questioning her integrity and the departments integrity. She also caused a fine. Shouldn't she be fired then? She probably won't. Why does this cop get a pass? Is it police union? Also, it's concerning that this cop has a racist bias. During a high stress situation shes is going to fall back on her racist attitudes. She isn't fit to be an officer. Unfortunately, many cops probably are just as racist.
Any municipality that hires her as a police officer should and will be held liable for any harm that she commits while in uniform. She is a clear and present danger to any community. Her own family members are not safe with her around.

He was reported many times, even got arrested by his own buddies in the force, but he never got fired. Unbelievable, but it happens.

I have found working with animals was my happy place although I do have to interact with their owners most are not hard to deal with. A kid shouldn’t be flipping off a cop, or anyone for the matter. But it’s a kid; troubled and disrespectful probably but what are you going to do about it? A trained and highly experienced police officer with a firearm, however, should- absolutely, under no circumstances- lose their ability to control their emotions due to the harmless actions of a child. So yeah, everyone should be respectful of one another but it’s a cop’s duty to remain calm and in control under these circumstances.

If you can’t control your emotions you can’t and should never be allowed as a police officer. We seem to have millions of these types of people policing our streets. We the tax payers, pay for this service. I can’t imagine treating my customers this way. I don’t know about “millions” because in 2020 there were a total of approximately 700,000 officers in America. Police officers are part of our government by the way. They aren’t like businesses. We as “customers” don’t get to choose which police department we use because they are the government. We get what the government gives us. Like it or not. True! I wanna warn you though, there have been incidents where someone flipped someone off in traffic & got shot for it. In fact, there was a man driving on the highway in some state & some other driver cut him off & flipped him off. He responded by flipping them off & the other driver began shooting at him. I think if more police strive to be an example to themselves and citizens I think less people would hate them and give them the finger, and she'd probably hate the world a little less. My friend’s father was once the sheriff of a town with gang violence. He has seen a lot of deaths that has messed him emotionally, mostly children deaths due to suffocation or violence. Not once, did the stress of being in harm or seeing the cruelty of this world made him say something racist.
I sorta see expletives (including all the ones this officer used) as like a release valve on a pressure cooker. It sounded like venting or a self-soothing tirade. The anger and loss of control is a major issue, I feel the focus is on her choice of words and not how the department looked the other way. Too much back scratching going on. Cops curse all the time during tense situations and it's treated differently because the choice of expletives. I'm rambling a bit. Humans are tribal and it will always come out when things are not going the way we want.

A kid shouldn’t be flipping off a cop, or anyone for the matter. But it’s a kid; troubled and disrespectful probably but what are you going to do about it? A trained and highly experienced police officer with a firearm, however, should- absolutely, under no circumstances- lose their ability to control their emotions due to the harmless actions of a child.
So yeah, everyone should be respectful of one another but it’s a cop’s duty to remain calm and in control under these circumstances.

We the tax payers, pay for this service. I can’t imagine treating my customers this way. I'm not defending her use of the N word or anything, but I was expecting an outburst with the actual people she pulled over. It sounds like there is a repeated trend of non-compliance and disrespect from this demographic.. it was mounting pressure and she blew up in the privacy of her squad car. The network only covered it because of the racial slur. She is not in the right line of work if her expectations are so different from the day to day reality of the job.

This has nothing to do with a supposed "flip off" by an African American - this is her true personality, aspects that appear over time on this job, revealed by life's stressors both on and off the job. This is why I push for the extensive, exhaustive psychological testing to be done regularly, and consistently.
Psychological testing won’t fix this.. people will say what they want in private. Now with that said, she should be fired. She’s committed career suicide as far as I’m concerned. In today’s climate I don’t see how she could continue working there with this story out. Imagine how her African American colleagues feel. In fact, there was a man driving on the highway in some state & some other driver cut him off & flipped him off. He responded by flipping them off & the other driver began shooting at him. He didn’t get hit but his 5 year old son in the back seat sure did. He died too. So just be careful out there my friend it isn’t worth it just to give someone the finger. I think if more police strive to be an example to themselves and citizens I think less people would hate them and give them the finger, and she'd probably hate the world a little less. My friend’s father was once the sheriff of a town with gang violence.
