This scene never fails to make me cry like a baby. Gwen didn't scream at all, and you can see how she just closed her eyes when Peter shot the web to catch her. She knew it was futile and she knew this was part of being in love with a hero, you become his ultimate weakness. I'm not sure if it was her head hitting the concrete or her spine snapping. She had to be falling a good couple miles per hour downward, then the web is like a thin string that ties around you. You come to a sudden stop, you're gonna end up breaking something. I wish he could've opened up to the other Peters. I'm so, so happy he essentially got to have a second chance. He saved MJ, the Gwen Stacy of... Well, himself from another timeline. They are all spiderman, but different timelines. Same guy with relatively same story. He was able to save this version of Gwen (MJ) for another version of himself (Tom Holland's Peter). You could see the pain yet relief in his eyes when he caught her, since he knew he was able to stop something like that from happening again. It's horrible he had to learn such a lesson in this way, to catch with his body and then use webbing to suspend yourself. :(
In this case, it's the two opcions: she hit her head with concrete and broke his spine, partially. This happens cause her head doesn't fully absorb her cinetic force, which is also distributed between the string and her spine (and with the entire body, in less quantity), so it would be surprising if she at least had some some broken vertebrae. What kills her it's the hit in the head, but the broken spine still being an important injury.
I think her back snapped, and her head was also crushed from the fall. The back of her head definitely hit the ground too hard, and her back bended entirely unatturally. Even if she survived, she would be brain dead, and paralyzed. Poor girl.

I swear to God, there is such brilliance scattered throughout these ASM movies, like, it's such a shame that Sony was calling the shots at the end of the day. With a director like Marc Webb and the heart that he brings to all his movies, to this day I still wish we could have gotten a lot more of this sort of thing and not the corporate hubris clusterfuck show we got courtesy of Sony. If these movies had a lot more Webb in them than Sony, they'd probably be considered classics.

what makes me cry about this scene is the clock's visual metaphor, about time, it matches with Gwen's graduation speech, it's how the film starts and how it ends, with that same speech, and the web takes the shape of a hand, it represents Peter trying to stop time, the clock's parts are scattered everywhere, neither of them knew that their time was limited, we all need to cherish every moment we have with the ones we love, because we never really know when it's going to end
Emma Stone is such a talented actress. She doesn't even have to scream, she just gives this gripping facial expression when she realizes she's about to die and that tells you everything she's thinking and feeling.
Sometimes silent deaths like this are so heart breaking. Characters or even in real life someone knows they are about to die and they just accept it. They might have hope but its very small. They know death is coming for them. The actress did a wonderful job
He's one of the best actors we have. People have been sleeping on him for a while tbh - he's done some amazing indie film work over the last few years.

Gwen’s death in this movie is a piece of art. The webbing symbolizes Peter reaching out to her. The slow motion represents how they feel time slowing down when they look at each other. Like how you feel when you look at the one you love and feels like time stops. The way it shows the clock represents their time running out together and her life flashing before her eyes. The way it shows her falling in the Lenses of spidey’s mask symbolizes how he is focused on saving her and that they glaze into each others eyes before the final fate. The way Gwen also shows fear in her eyes and the final breath of acceptance. This scene is so poetic.
I’m guessing that people who saw the film and were crushed by this scene probably struggled for sleep specifically because of her unforgettable terrified face as she fell slow motion.

Fun fact: Before they film this devastating emotional scene, Andrew and Emma agree to not seen each other in 1 week due to his advice said: "'I don’t want to see you! When you come into that scene, you have to pretend like you are dead to me." It was very quiet on set and he was barely crying uncontrollably for hours just to make this scene more impactful and emotional. My god boy Andrew deserves an oscar.

Andrew’s acting in this is phenomenal. The grief feels incredibly real down to the denial at first and then begging when he realizes she’s gone. I cry every time.
One of the most heartbreaking scenes in all of superhero cinema. The way Gwen's head rebounds off the concrete in a fraction of a second after being so painstakingly close to being saved by Peter makes it particularly painful.
I thought that at first but her hair would’ve been bloody then. I think she never hit the ground but the whiplash from the web and the velocity of her fall snapped her back like a twig.

The way he got his redemption in NWH, also his expressions and cries after saving MJ was another phenomenal perspection. He also asked MJ if she was okay because he never got to hear those words from Gwen. This scene had me on my knees in theater and the tears were dropping like anything.
I think every spiderman has had their own iconic scene that defined them, Tobey had the train scene, Tom had the lifting the rubble off his body or possibly his Spidey senses being reawakened while fighting Mysterio, I believe this particular scene is Andrews and my personal favorite from his two movies
Garfield's naivety is what got Gwen killed. So many things I want to say, but cant put it to words. His only choice is to move on and take this as a lesson.

Andrew Garfield's spider-man is the most damaged spider-man than other versions. He lost his parents, he lost his uncle, he lost captain stacy, he lost dr. connors, he lost his best friend, and most of all, he lost his girl. Imagine all the pain and guilt he had to overcome he is beyond depressed but still found the strength to come back to being spider-man. Andrew Garfield is truly *amazing* as spider-man.

This scene shocked me, I didn't expect it, I never read anything about her death. When he picked it up I felt like she was saved. But when the sound of her spine came, I reacted like Peter, I couldn't believe it. It was one of the scenes that shocked me the most in my life, I was sure he would save her in the end.
Say what you want about this movie, but I applaud them for not only having the balls to do this, but to do it in such a brutal and masterful way; her last words being "Peter?" only twist the knife further. Andrew's acting is heartbreakingly convincing, too.
Literally just finished watching No Way Home and the way he started crying after he caught MJ broke my heart. He’ll never forgive himself for failing to save Gwen, but at least this time he managed to save the love of Peter Parker’s life - even if she wasn’t *his* love.

Andrew's Peter does not catch a break, he's so comic accurate, because everyone he knew either died or turned bad. Never caught a break, and his relationship with Gwen felt loving and genuine, this movie is so great.

I really like that he didn't "barely not catch her" or "catch her right before she hit the ground". The fact that the tension made for just enough room to not sufficently stop the fall was unexpected, original, and even more heartbreakingly close.
It’s not original. Not saying that as an insult, but it’s based on the fact that in the comics when Gwen Stacey died it was confirmed that it was Peters web that killed her. When trying to save her after the goblin threw her off I think a bridge, Peter tried saving her and shot his Webb at her. He caught her but the whiplash from it caused her neck to snap killing her. The movies it seems didn’t want to go completely in the “Spider-Man killed her direction” but just enough to give homage to the original comic where she died and was shown to be because of Spider-Man (was screwed either way). So the recreated it a bit here showing that the Web stopped her but also caused the whiplash smashing the back of her head on the ground killing her, rather than catching her high enough but the whiplash snaps her neck.

Despite the hate this movie gets, the chemistry between Garfield and Stone was one of the highlights of these Spider-Man films. And this scene was so tragically beautiful. It brought a tear to my eye when Garfield's Spider-Man saved MJ in No Way Home. What a beautiful way to bring peace to his character

Garfield was probably under appreciated as Spiderman. The MCU was killing it, Sony’s Amazing Spiderman 2 was a mess with to much studio interference. No Way Home showed he was a great SpiderMan and he found his redemption
Imagine when you're in Peter's place in this scenario, the pain of losing someone you love, the pain of breaking a promise you made to her father, the pain of realising that he wasn't able to save someone he loves. Wouldn't you break into tears as well? This is why I love Andrew's Peter Parker, you can tell the pain of losing someone from his face alone.
That's why Andrew's Peter is my favorite... There's this guilt in him for unintentionally helping out the man who killed his uncle later, then breaking the promise with Gwen's father despite knowing that what he said was right regards Gwen's safety and at last not being able to save her despite all his efforts... Watching all these people die in front of his eyes must be too traumatic. I guess that's why he's the hero cause in order to be that you need to lose something precious to you, also you can't save just everyone. I get why he took break from this superhero stuff at the end of movie before continuing it for the sake of people

They don’t have this kind of emotional tension in most superhero films nowadays. This was not a perfect film, but Peter and Gwen’s relationship was golden-tier!
From acting to screen play to the very underrated Cinematographers and Vfx artists...Both of tasm movies were Cinema masterpiece how the screen play to cinemato to Vfx made those swings so lively.. small details like how the web opened up like a hand. How spideys lenses reflected Gwen. How Gwen didn't scream. How the music was so spot on in these movies. Sure there might be a few prob. with the story and pacing but these films had so much more gone underappreciated. Maguire films are childish compared to this cinema heaven.
Nowadays? This movie is only like only 7 years old or something. I mean, there's still plenty of great stuff out there. Just keep your eyes and mind open and you'll find something.

Whenever I need to make myself sob this video does it for me. I don't have to watch the video. Just the pain in Andrews voice breaks my heart a little. Its like his telling me to stay. I watch this when I'm really anxious and don't want to lose myself again. Crying is a release.
I really liked how, composition-wise, Andrew's reaction to Gwen dying, Toby's reaction to both Harry and Uncle Ben dying, and Tom's reaction to May dying are all filmed so similarly. It shows how even across the multiverse these characters all care deeply about the people they love and I always thought it was such a clever way to tie in all three character's personal tragedies together.
The way they go through all stages of grief in each of those scenes is so perfectly acted. Tobey is definitely most people childhood fav Spider-Man. But Andrew's version was never bad. The biggest gripe people had were with the movies. And Tom nails everything. Especially with No Way Home. He's finally out of Starks shadow and is really becoming Spider-Man. Cloth suit, no more Nano Tech, he got his own with great power comes great responsibility speech. What a great comic book character.
Tobey was fantastic in the original trilogy, Andrew was amazing, but unfortunately had to suffer from bad writing. Tom is my least favorite spiderman, mostly because in the first two films, he's fighting iron man's villains, not his. Tom was good and all, but mcu spidey isn't what spiderman is supposed to be. Before no way home, he didn't struggle with anything. He didn't have the poorness that spidey is supposed to have and didn't have the hard working values spidey is supposed to have. Thankfully it was better in no way home, but spidey solves things on his own. Mcu spidey always asks the avengers for help, which is perfectly fine for an mcu representation, but it doesn't truly represent how spider man actually is. Sorry for the whole novel, but I just wanted to say it.
Andrew sucked as Peter Parker. Too cocky. The appeal of Spider Man is that he is a little bit of a loser in his non spidey live. Andrew came a across as this hip ultra cool cocky guy. Even Flash seemed initimidated by him. I personally hated it.

I kinda like the more brutal approach they took with her death in this film. Tom Holland is a great actor. They made him too kid-like for my taste. Tobey is always the GOAT. Andrew is the best alternative. Holland got much publicity with the Avengers, etc.

With a director like Marc Webb and the heart that he brings to all his movies, to this day I still wish we could have gotten a lot more of this sort of thing and not the corporate hubris clusterfuck show we got courtesy of Sony. If these movies had a lot more Webb in them than Sony, they'd probably be considered classics.

what makes me cry about this scene is the clock's visual metaphor, about time, it matches with Gwen's graduation speech, it's how the film starts and how it ends, with that same speech, and the web takes the shape of a hand, it represents Peter trying to stop time, the clock's parts are scattered everywhere, neither of them knew that their time was limited, we all need to cherish every moment we have with the ones we love, because we never really know when it's going to end

Gwen’s death in this movie is a piece of art. The webbing symbolizes Peter reaching out to her. The slow motion represents how they feel time slowing down when they look at each other. Like how you feel when you look at the one you love and feels like time stops. The way it shows the clock represents their time running out together and her life flashing before her eyes. The way it shows her falling in the Lenses of spidey’s mask symbolizes how he is focused on saving her and that they glaze into each others eyes before the final fate. The way Gwen also shows fear in her eyes and the final breath of acceptance. This scene is so poetic.

Fun fact: Before they film this devastating emotional scene, Andrew and Emma agree to not seen each other in 1 week due to his advice said: "'I don’t want to see you! When you come into that scene, you have to pretend like you are dead to me." One of the most heartbreaking scenes in all of superhero cinema. The way Gwen's head rebounds off the concrete in a fraction of a second after being so painstakingly close to being saved by Peter makes it particularly painful.
I thought that at first but her hair would’ve been bloody then. I think she never hit the ground but the whiplash from the web and the velocity of her fall snapped her back like a twig.
@@TheBrandiElizabeth She definitely does hit the ground. If you slow it down you can see her head hitting it at 1:11. Even accounting for the hair that is a clean hit because of how straight it lines up with the ground. It's just because of the rating they could not show the pool of blood.

I think every spiderman has had their own iconic scene that defined them, Tobey had the train scene, Tom had the lifting the rubble off his body or possibly his Spidey senses being reawakened while fighting Mysterio, I believe this particular scene is Andrews and my personal favorite from his two movies
Garfield's naivety is what got Gwen killed. So many things I want to say, but cant put it to words. His only choice is to move on and take this as a lesson.

Andrew Garfield's spider-man is the most damaged spider-man than other versions. He lost his parents, he lost his uncle, he lost captain stacy, he lost dr. connors, he lost his best friend, and most of all, he lost his girl. Imagine all the pain and guilt he had to overcome he is beyond depressed but still found the strength to come back to being spider-man. Andrew Garfield is truly *amazing* as spider-man.

This scene shocked me, I didn't expect it, I never read anything about her death. When he picked it up I felt like she was saved. But when the sound of her spine came, I reacted like Peter, I couldn't believe it. It was one of the scenes that shocked me the most in my life, I was sure he would save her in the end.

Andrew's Peter does not catch a break, he's so comic accurate, because everyone he knew either died or turned bad. Never caught a break, and his relationship with Gwen felt loving and genuine, this movie is so great.

The fact that the tension made for just enough room to not sufficently stop the fall was unexpected, original, and even more heartbreakingly close.

It’s not original. Not saying that as an insult, but it’s based on the fact that in the comics when Gwen Stacey died it was confirmed that it was Peters web that killed her. When trying to save her after the goblin threw her off I think a bridge, Peter tried saving her and shot his Webb at her. He caught her but the whiplash from it caused her neck to snap killing her. The movies it seems didn’t want to go completely in the “Spider-Man killed her direction” but just enough to give homage to the original comic where she died and was shown to be because of Spider-Man (was screwed either way). So the recreated it a bit here showing that the Web stopped her but also caused the whiplash smashing the back of her head on the ground killing her, rather than catching her high enough but the whiplash snaps her neck.

This scene gets me every time. 😢 It shows you the human side of superheroes and even they are not immune to pain and suffering.
I love this moment of the garfield era, they didnt make the cliché "she nearly dies but is saved 2 inches from the ground", and straight up killed her, something movies never do.
Or the cliche "everyone thought that she was dead and started crying for her but then she opened her eyes and turned out to be ok"

Despite the hate this movie gets, the chemistry between Garfield and Stone was one of the highlights of these Spider-Man films. And this scene was so tragically beautiful. It brought a tear to my eye when Garfield's Spider-Man saved MJ in No Way Home. What a beautiful way to bring peace to his character

Garfield was probably under appreciated as Spiderman. The MCU was killing it, Sony’s Amazing Spiderman 2 was a mess with to much studio interference. No Way Home showed he was a great SpiderMan and he found his redemption

Imagine when you're in Peter's place in this scenario, the pain of losing someone you love, the pain of breaking a promise you made to her father, the pain of realising that he wasn't able to save someone he loves. Wouldn't you break into tears as well? This is why I love Andrew's Peter Parker, you can tell the pain of losing someone from his face alone.
That's why Andrew's Peter is my favorite... There's this guilt in him for unintentionally helping out the man who killed his uncle later, then breaking the promise with Gwen's father despite knowing that what he said was right regards Gwen's safety and at last not being able to save her despite all his efforts... Watching all these people die in front of his eyes must be too traumatic. I guess that's why he's the hero cause in order to be that you need to lose something precious to you, also you can't save just everyone. I get why he took break from this superhero stuff at the end of movie before continuing it for the sake of people

They don’t have this kind of emotional tension in most superhero films nowadays. This was not a perfect film, but Peter and Gwen’s relationship was golden-tier!
From acting to screen play to the very underrated Cinematographers and Vfx artists...Both of tasm movies were Cinema masterpiece how the screen play to cinemato to Vfx made those swings so lively.. small details like how the web opened up like a hand. How spideys lenses reflected Gwen. How Gwen didn't scream. How the music was so spot on in these movies.
Sure there might be a few prob. with the story and pacing but these films had so much more gone underappreciated.
Maguire films are childish compared to this cinema heaven.

Whenever I need to make myself sob this video does it for me. I don't have to watch the video. Just the pain in Andrews voice breaks my heart a little. Its like his telling me to stay. I watch this when I'm really anxious and don't want to lose myself again. Crying is a release.
I really liked how, composition-wise, Andrew's reaction to Gwen dying, Toby's reaction to both Harry and Uncle Ben dying, and Tom's reaction to May dying are all filmed so similarly. It shows how even across the multiverse these characters all care deeply about the people they love and I always thought it was such a clever way to tie in all three character's personal tragedies together.

The way they go through all stages of grief in each of those scenes is so perfectly acted.
Tobey is definitely most people childhood fav Spider-Man. But Andrew's version was never bad. The biggest gripe people had were with the movies. And Tom nails everything. Especially with No Way Home. He's finally out of Starks shadow and is really becoming Spider-Man. Cloth suit, no more Nano Tech, he got his own with great power comes great responsibility speech.
What a great comic book character.
Tobey was fantastic in the original trilogy, Andrew was amazing, but unfortunately had to suffer from bad writing. Tom is my least favorite spiderman, mostly because in the first two films, he's fighting iron man's villains, not his. Tom was good and all, but mcu spidey isn't what spiderman is supposed to be. Before no way home, he didn't struggle with anything. He didn't have the poorness that spidey is supposed to have and didn't have the hard working values spidey is supposed to have. Thankfully it was better in no way home, but spidey solves things on his own. Mcu spidey always asks the avengers for help, which is perfectly fine for an mcu representation, but it doesn't truly represent how spider man actually is. Sorry for the whole novel, but I just wanted to say it.

Andrew sucked as Peter Parker. Too cocky. The appeal of Spider Man is that he is a little bit of a loser in his non spidey live. Andrew came a across as this hip ultra cool cocky guy. Even Flash seemed initimidated by him. I personally hated it.

I kinda like the more brutal approach they took with her death in this film. In the comics, it's the whiplash alone that kills her, snapping her neck, but in this film her head actually *slams into the ground* Both result in instant death, but her dying from blunt force trauma is just so much more violent.

It’s not underrated. It’s a bad film with a few good actors and some good scenes like this.
This movie definitely has issues but this is easily my favourite scene in the duology. Most writers would never have the balls to kill off a major character in such a sudden and brutal way.
