@@montaver2455 Not really because it is paired to the horrible Sequential gearbox... also this one is DI which is just a bit more up to date. sound wise there is nothing to complain about in this one. This is just much more refined and usable while the 360 is well... a 360. Only thing I might change my mind on might be a manual 360 but a regular one not a CS.
This was clearly the best version ever made by Ferrari, the name says it all. This is the pinnacle in NA form, they have tried with is younger brother but wouldn't come close in terms of balance.
Doesn't matter how fast a car ultimately is, you always get used to it. Enjoyment is the main factor of what makes a good drivers car, not figures. And N/A just does that better
Heck yeah. On public roads, you aren't really able to access the full power of these cars anyways. In fact, people tend to have more fun with cars with less power and shorter gears on public roads because you get to interact with the car more and use more of its power if that makes sense
Well said that! New cars are all about power, it’s like an arms race, but instead of nuclear weapons it’s brake horsepower. Pointless really. All about how these cars make you feel and how involved you are in the driving experience
I was taken for a quick spin in a 458 Italia a couple of years ago and I was pretty impressed by it; on Peak roads it felt pretty visceral. The noise of that engine behind your head was lovely. Nice to hear that this example is used properly.
Loved how he talked about how making a car sound this good is like fine tuning a musical instrument. It’s almost like how certain violins sound better than others
I've heard that ferrari did not initially want to switch to turbocharging their mid engine v8's but had to because of emission regulations. What kind of performance could we have have expected from a normally aspirated 488? Seems crazy to think they'd be able to get even more performance from an N/A v8.
Magnificent, Homage of the incredible last v8 N/A Ferrari. Love this engine love this gearbox and love naturally aspirated!! Naturally aspirated forever 💪
My uncle had one of these. He took me for rides and the sound was unbelievable. The whole car vibrated, you could even feel it through the seat. He crashed it on a track. Messed up on oversteer and let go off the throttle, launching the car in the direction of the steering correction. Twisted the chassis...
One of the reasons I love Porsche. As most of the high-end sports car manufacturers completely phase out NA engines and manual transmissions, they recognize the need to keep a handful of pure driving vehicles in their lineup. The 718 4.0 GTS and GT4, the 911 GT3... Sure the turbo charged, PDK transmission variants are faster, and there's a market and desire for the fastest... But so many like myself want the "experience" that comes with the sound and feel of a high performance, NA engine with a manual gearbox.
Finally, a Great tribute to NA cars! Thought i was alone in my nostalgia. I have all three cars (Dinan stroker V8 M3). While the legacy is still not complete, wondering if you plan to feature 991.2 GT3 RS. Fortunate to have this too, and it had GLORIOUS NA motor that belongs to this short list. Keep ‘em comin!! Bravissimo !!!
Would take a Ferrari 458 Speciale over any Lamborghini and Porsche (apart from the 918 Spyder Weissach Package) and would also take the Speciale over most McLaren and Ferrari vehicles. Awesome car! One of the best supercars to ever exist.
2024 now, and while the Speciale will never be duplicated I must say the C8 Corvette Z06 with a NA 5.5L engine cranking out 670 hp and redline at 8600 rpm is a fantastic car I grab the keys for more drives than others. The Speciale is still “another level” and is for that special occasion drive through the mountains.
Amazing videos!!!well done!!! I enjoy watching every one of them!!!looking forward to the next one!!!.you could- should include merc amg sls black series as well...
The only downside of such car is its cost, which as a track focus limited version is unaffordable for the 99,999999% of people. If I would have the money I would pick the "standard" 458 Italia, my favorite v8 ferrari ever. Congrats by this nice NA series guys.
This may sound crazy but I had been considering making an offer on a Speciale today and as I was thinking about it, your video alert popped up on my screen. It was the sign I needed so I typed up an offer and a reply is pending. I hope to edit this comment later with the message that I bought a Speciale and this video was the last push I needed. Thanks for the post.
@@scd Sadly, the seller moved the goalposts on me by a material amount relative to the price that they had guided me too. The spread is over $20,000. That’s OK, I have several normally aspirated Porsche GT cars to enjoy. May I suggest you do a video on the 997.2 GT3 RS cars and add that to your list as a 4th great NA engine?
Idk about the last. Have you seen what corvette is doing. Apparently 615hp from a flat plane crank v8. They’re going to be pumping out 458 Speciale for attainable prices
@@scd Thanks, trouble I have is where I live....and thats in Illinois. Winter rules apply and my cars are off the street before the snow flies and salt drops. I used to ride my bikes up on those roads round Settle & Hawes (916, 999, R1, RC30 etc) & you really have to keep your wits about you - there's some very unforgiving terrain round there - but a great chippy in the middle of Hawes. I have a 430 but I am really lusting after a 458 - but TBH the 430 is so unbelievably fast anyway - its awesome. The styling on the 458 though - it'll never be bettered IMHO
Drive the Corvette C8 ZO6. It should be out this year, and if you want to talk about the last of the great NA engines, this one's going to be one of the greats. Cheers.
I'm not really sure why, but I feel like a manual gearbox would limit this car's performance potential, and slow it down severely. The 7-speed dual-clutch is one of the world's finest transmission, a match made in heaven for this 458
Would you say that this is Ferrari's best V8? 👇

Unbelievable, just love listening to Jonty’s comments on the car while being amazed by the song that V8 sings...
Thanks for watching
This channel is underrated.what a quality production.
Why thank you!
The 458 Speciale is IT!
These productions are getting better all the time - top notch production values in the marketplace now.
Pleasure! Thanks Nic. We try and recently recruited full time videographer
AS an owner of both speciale and pista , speciale is just way more special overall.
Couldn’t agree more! Thanks for watching
would that change if the pista had a nice exhaust?

The best NA V8 ever made!! My friend has one Novitec Speciale as a daily!! Absolutely amazing machine!! Amazing content as always!!!

Best classic in the making? Aston V12S....all natural, analog perfection in a digital world.

High praise! Thank you

Even after the 488, pista, sf90, the roma but this one right here or any red 458 is still my dream car. The screaming v8 is just *do Italian sign*

great review Jonty 🙌 The Specialé is probably the only car I miss
I'll always prefer this car over the 488.... ALWAYS!!
When I was a kid, anything ‘turbo’ was cool. Would even have it on your Walkman or BMX. How things have changed !
Haha good point. It was cool cos they were massive and the cars were light and dangerous. Now they’re going turbo because of emissions etc.
