This is an innovative format. Not only is strength and endurance requuired for the distance covered, but tactics as well. Let's see more of it. Now what if they did this in something like golf or cycling? It's already been done in tennis for years.
That final lap is reminiscent of the first mixed relay I saw. The Polish team employed a Female-Male-Male-Female Strategy, which gave their anchor (Justina Sweity Ersetich) a HUGE lead on the final lap. She was so far ahead, she was basically out of screen shot by the time the other teams started their anchor legs. But as soon as the American male anchor got the baton, he started to reel her in. He caught up to her at the end of the back straight and overtook her around the bend. The other males overtook her down the home straight and Poland never got a medal. This 2x2x400 format is PERFECT for Athing Mu of the US. She gets partnered with a good male runner, they will be the team to beat.
Mu and Brazier? That might be good. Murphy would be a good substitute if the lactic acid just becomes a bit much for Donovan. I've heard Hoppel ran some 4x400s in college as well as Harris.
@@meluk6991 They should put this in the Olympics. That’s why they’re trialing this now so they can see how it would work. Brazier would rather run the 400 than the 2x2x400, but a gold is a gold.
@@zaynes5094 I don't like it at all. They are putting subpar athletes in the olympics that wouldn't be there otherwise. None of the best women or men are even running this event at the olympics
I think these mixed races are great as it allows more countries to be competitive in the relays. Otherwise, alot of the smaller countries won't have 4 stellar (same sex) athletes to participate in the relays.
*impossible for a female athlete unless there is a 150m+ lead. The men go batshit crazy on the last lap to chase the medal and naturally the testosterone kick in harder seeing a woman run ahead of you
Brazier was so smooth. He had a dynamite 2019 and really got screwed with the 2020 Olympics being pushed back to 2021. I would love for him to somehow get healthy again.
BA CL I agree. I love watching him run. Yeah, he was a bit injured and a bit off from start to finish. Probably was a bit out of shape too. Either way, I truly believe he will be bringing in gold if he gets a different coach. He will continue to make the same mistakes in huge races if he doesn’t get a different coach, or at least, his coach actually tries to help him.
This video should be required viewing for Congress, NCAA and all local judges who think its OK for women to compete against men in sports. That Kenya runner on the last leg was a world class runner and she got caught from behind so easy by the other countries men.
The kiss of death on a relay team is putting a woman on the anchor leg against the men. It could be latisha Jackson or sydney mcglaughlin on the anchor with a huge lead and the men will reel them in. Just stupid anchoring with a woman. Perfect strategy would be woman man woman man like Team USA did.
It is usually an athlete from a country that is ravaged by war or unrest and who is not able to represent their own country because of this. I think in most cases this also means that the country does not have a proper sport federation, so the athlete is not officially able to represent their country.
Kenya should have been disqualified for not immediately exiting the track upon completion of the 1st leg. The Kenyan runner knows exactly what he’s doing, which is forcing everyone else to go around him.
the whole race the camera focused on the 4th place team. they should make women run the same leg and men run the same leg, so we can watch the best teams run the whole way. that would make the mixed relays really great
No, that would take all the fun out of the race. It’s much more fun to watch huge leads be over taken which can only really happen if men are running against women.
@ThatOne I’ve see two men and two women. the women were slaughtered, but it’s always the countries with weaker runners who try this so idk. If Jamaica or the US did it might be more interesting,

I've never seen such a relay like this, it was amazing!
That lead
Was gone so quickly😭
Yes, AMAZING!!!!!!
From a former Athlete, I would have loved to see something like this when I was running Track & Field.
That is because man race with women there's a huge gap between man and woman.
If this is a debut for this race, it was fun to watch.

I love these kinds of mixed medley relays! So exciting ‼️❤️
Man that race was so exciting! I think the 🇺🇸 and 🇦🇺 men took it easy that first lap, but great job 🇰🇪!
Nasty Race
I would be so done after the first one
This is such a cool race! I'd like to see more of these at relay meets. :)
A very interesting concept where strategy is vital.
fraseir is just awesome.. big respect for this american man..
Braizer
The mixed relays are very exciting.
That was amazing! Braizer and Brown are a perfect pair.

I ran a some mixed races like this in high school. Definitely not for the weak or timid
So does that mean one athlete have to run 800m with a break after running 400m.
Yes
that mean they have about 50 seconds to less than 1min break ONLY!!!
Each athlete (2) runs 800m. 400m pass baton, rest, 400m pass baton...
has* to
Can’t people just appreciate how interesting this race was instead of sex baiting.
Chill out guys, we’re better than this.
people just want entertainment. they want it to be competitive.
Oh yeah!! This is my favorite type of race!
Proud to be Kenya.... Go go go
Imagine the 2019 world champion Donavan Brazier and the 2020 Olympics champion Athing Mu forming the team for the USA.
That would be a explosive team😳 They would be a whole cheat code😂😂
Oh no, we would be talking record-breaking by then, lol.
Also michael cherry
Now that was awesome!
That female broadcaster is my new fav I love her voice and excitement
oh man wish the commentators gave the japanese team some credit here - they really held on well
OMG! I could not even imagine doing this! Amazing....USA! Ms. Brown and Mr. Brazier!
Feel bad for Kenya getting disqualified...
Exciting relay race
Very impressive. Well done!
What a great team
It's kind of challenging to out run the men on the last leg, brilliance by all on track👌💖💕🙏

This was nice. I like this event
Mu and Brazier would destroy this record

Amazing stamina and relay tactic

I think the two Polish runners did well
Brazier!!!
What were the splits
I think Brazier could be a very good inclusion into the USA 4x400m team.
I think it's good but they did it better in Olympics having 4 different athletes vs two interchanging here
This is new, but just sounds like a painful training session
Where is David Rudisha?
What a race
Would they have been allowed to have the first person run 400m then the other run 800m straight, then the first person another 400m?
I don't think so.
Yes, but no team would choose that format, because it wouldn't be efficient.
No one cares whether u watched the video at first or second 🤷

For some reason their is a big ole 😊 on my face.
women running in men's leg is always going to be an absurd strategy, Kenya learnt it hard way
There should be a 2x200
So then the person who just handed off the the baton would have to run 200m backwards to get it back?
Dobek and
Dobek tried there best but there good athletes are they brother and sister

So we’re they running the 400 like their normal 800 technique? Or with 400? Ou

Love Kenya's guts tho
The US tactic with men at 2nd an last lap is better.

Grest tactics by Kenya
Kenya should have put Mary Moraa instead
