      Wish the climax was bigger and longer, but then it wouldn't have the zest it does. Still, could be my favourite. Can't decide.

    My favorite part of the Wastelands was the big speakers in lud where the sound of god drums made hanging corpses vibrate

    • @anthonyhenriques7654
      @anthonyhenriques7654 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      and the fact that the god drums end up just being a slowed down baseline from a ZZ Top song is like the cherry on top, it's hilariously morbid that an entire society formed an entire cult around bass speakers and sacrificing people to them

    I enjoyed drawing of the three more than waste lands. The suspense, the twists, and variety of characters and development was fantastic. Also the wonder in the doors and worlds was so intriguing. Waste lands has man boring sections in it although still great

    I’m glad you loved this so much.
    I’ve come across very few people that like this book the most or even the most of the first 3.
    I kinda like your flashback/cliffhanger theory. That might be the case too. He prob didn’t assume there’d be a 6 year gap between books and a 12 year gap before the story picks back up.

    "A heap of broken images, where the sun beats,
    And the dead tree gives no shelter..." (T.S. Elliot, The Wasteland) - also it was used as an epigraph in Book 3 of the series.

    A gripping story from cover to cover, The Waste Lands damn well blew my socks off! The first half of the book, from Shardik to the Drawing, was such an incredible build up and payoff that I was both visibly and audibly stunned by it, multiple times, throughout. Then came the insane second half and from River Crossing to Lud to The Cradle to the bonkers cliffhanger(!!!!!), I was at the edge of my seat with eyes that simply could not read the words on the page fast enough.
    The ka-tet had tugged at the deepest recesses of my heart - and the story and concepts, of my mind. I’m just so incredibly thankful that I don’t have to wait several YEARS to start Wizard and Glass, I need to know what happens next!

    It's a joy to see your journey through this incredible series. I read them back when the later ones were coming out new (started with The Drawing of the Three and then went back). Then, I taught The Gunslinger for a few years because it's just incredible. I will go out on a limb and say The Gunslinger is the best written of the series. I dunno, I'll have to reread the others and see.

    Love your reviews of the series and am eager to see what you think about the ending. You could probably read A wind through the keyhole between book 4 and 5 since it’s basically book 4.5 but King wrote it years after finishing the main series. It’s a good read and I don’t remember it spoiling anything of the later books, however it’s also pretty much another Flashback story like wizard and glass (which was a plus for me). Also if you really like the world of the Dark tower and want more after finishing the series I can recommend Kings short story sisters of Eluria (I think that’s what it was called) and the comic series which is part adaptation of book 4 and part fleshing out Rolands backstory

    • @ManCarryingThing
      @ManCarryingThing  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks! I'm really excited to read that oh so controversial ending that everyone alludes to. I've been debating whether to read WttKeyhole or Wolves next. Since I'm so eager for the story to go forward, I'll probably save WttKeyhole as a desert at the end of the series, a nice return to mid-world.

    Steve Reich's Different Trains should be used in the soundtrack to the film adaptation, if the film is ever made. Nice and eerie. Check the lyrics out too. They could easily be adjusted to fit the story.

    Some edits could be made here and there. Like 'Blain is pain'. Some screams, idk.
    Edit: looked deeper into the subject matter of the song and came to the conclusion it would probably be a bit insensitive, or it might undermine it. Still, a similar, inspired suite would be cool.
