I had no idea there was so much involved making a solid diff. Im curious on how it feels to drive. Is this diff just for track use or can customers use it on the road ?
Welded in this context refers to the ring gear being welded on this diff as opposed to bolted, which makes fitting an LSD a pain in the arse. Welding your diff would be different.
@@DarksideDevelopments can u feel it cranking/grinding on a turn for street use or is it smooth as not to wear out tires unless taking hard turns? and what is difference between quaife and wavetrack do they feel the same on a turn?
Not tried any on the 140i's, we put wavetrac on our 125 which worked well and most of our projects got Quaife diffs which we don't usually have a problem with
No, this is just a ring that is welded on to the diff. The wheels still spin at different speeds. With the welded diff used in drifting, they weld the teeth together so that the wheels spin at the same speed
Reyt then Edit: Dont know owt about bmw's and their diffs, but wouldnt a diff out of a 1 series which came standard with a lsd been more cost effective?
Can you please share what are the tolerances for the diff to have play? You also mentioned preload. Thank you mate for explaining. TOP work. Cheers!!!
Old Snap on gun, looking absolutely humongous!
There's surely a ring-gear in some other BMW diff that would suit that particular wavetrack? Or even a completely different diff with same ratio
Not that we could find!
They used open diffs in the 335d … BMW was probably afraid they would compete with their M series cars 🤨

We will use on the road ;)

Yes it would, lol

@@DarksideDevelopments Will the acceleration of the car slow down after this process because there will be extra friction?
Acceleration should improve as the power is more evenly distributed to the wheels, plus the extra grip will help push you forward faster too
How's the Porsche Cayenne V8 going? Not seen an update since your last video
The customer had it back!
@@DarksideDevelopments oh what a shame 😕 I'm sure another one will come along very soon. Keep up the good work buddy 👍
Q7 being booked in as we speak!

What's the difference between wavetrac and quaife LSD?
Some clutch plates ;) they have a good diagram

Huge
Nice work!
Sorry for the stupid question but has this modification anything to do with the one frequently done to drag or drift cars ?
No, this is just a ring that is welded on to the diff. The wheels still spin at different speeds. With the welded diff used in drifting, they weld the teeth together so that the wheels spin at the same speed
@@DarksideDevelopments Thank you for the explanation and compliments for the good work!
@@DarksideDevelopments May I ask you what's the locking % in acceleration / deceleration ?
Which diff is that? And any measurements for the ring gear machining? Got an m tec diff and the diff ready to go onto my lathe as I write 🤣
It's a wavetrac
When ya got a big gun it would be rude not to show it, i really hate call sheet overtime this week lol have fun peps 🏴🇩🇪🔥🤘

Does fitting an LSD make the car heavier on fuel?
I would say not
Rough price on a m57 conversion on a e82 123d
Not something we would do unfortunately
