    Something I forgot to add: when using this tonic alone on damp hair, the tonic would cause your hair to harden slightly to some extent. Not as hard as a gel-type water based pomade, but only hardens and clumps it up slightly, without a helmet-head feel. In my opinion, this product is better as a prestyler than something alone.

    I liked this stuff. Was able to style my hair without a greasy feeling. Hair was shiny, smelled good and felt clean.

    One of the better modern tonics. Very good topper for the matte paste or wax. You don’t need much...holds natural styles well👍

    Hey! I have longer hair (2 inch sides 7 inch top) asian hair. I tried using this tonic and let it air dry, but it still causes a natural part. I am trying to do a full slick back, but I cannot find ANYTHING to help. It might look good for 20 minutes, but then it always naturally parts. Any suggestions? Thanks!

    • @pomadesandpomps
      @pomadesandpomps  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To get the best results with this tonic, use a blowdryer - it is heat activated. But I have the same problem as you, 3 years ago I wanted to do a full slickback but I stopped caring and embraced the part. Maybe you can try using a wax-heavy pomade. Try Flagship's Black Ship for a water based option and this tonic with a blowdryer for a prestyler. I honestly can't help much with this but it's a suggestion.

    I like your reviews. Would you please review some of my personal faves, well as still made ... protein 29 liquid (light green) ; Eau de Portugal by clubman (clear); three flowers (tres Flores) ; and a very old product from long ago which my dad used to use ... heads up by Gillette (the tube)

      Heads Up, manufactured by Galette has gone out of production many, many moon ago. Don't expect to ever see it get reviewed. I wish Score men's hairdressing which was once manufactured by Brystal Meyers Incorporated would be produced again, however it won't ever be as Brystal Meyers still has the patten to it, however won't ever be produced ever again, sad, very, very sad.

    Thanks for the informative video. The Reuzel hair tonic dries and leaves a "natural look". Does the grooming tonic do the same or does it leave a "wet and shiney " look ? Thanks in advance for your answer. ( I was going to use it as a prestyler with gel ).

      Thanks. Wanted to know this as well. Difficult to get something specific. Started using hair tonic recently. Used only clubman, that’s alcohol based so dries hair.
      This one looked good but seems more specific to blow dry, and hard without blow dry it gets crispy somewhat like gel. Templeton tonic seems good but not available on Amazon (Canada)

    So does this look a lot more vintage and shiny than the Reuzel tonic? Could anyone tell me which is more adequate for the vintage look or really slick back hair.

    • @pomadesandpomps
      @pomadesandpomps  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Neither. This tonic won't give you the classic look, but I would suggest Jeris tonic with oil or Lucky Tiger 3 Purpose for tonics that give the classic look.

      @@pomadesandpomps Thanks, I got the Layrite Supershine pomade and I'll probably get one of the tonics you just listed. I saw your vid on the Layrite one and I like how it looks, it's quite shiny.

    I want my hair to be shiny like really shiny I have jet black hair and I slick my hair back i use Brycle cream but it doesn’t have the best hold what could I do about that also is there any product that you could suggest that I could by at my local Walmart that will give me that shine and hold?

    • @pomadesandpomps
      @pomadesandpomps  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hey there, jet black hair is the easiest to make it shine.
      If you want it really greasy shiny, you want something on a budget and can be obtained from your Walmart, I suggest you cocktail two products together; buy both Murray's Superior and Royal Crown Hairdressing and pair them up, or you can forget about the RC Hairdressing and just combine Murray's and Brylcreem if you want to save money, since you already have it. Any of the combos mentioned should be less than $10. Furthermore, the Brylcreem will make it easier to wash the Murray's out of your hair if you want to degrease.

    • @AsianTheDomination
      @AsianTheDomination 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I second this. Brylcreem and Murrays/Dax is a very affordable solution and the products are easier to find

    Good information What is the tonic you like the best without oil and don't dry the hair out?

    • @pomadesandpomps
      @pomadesandpomps  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly that's quite a difficult question to answer because the best tonics that soften and nourish hair without drying are the oil based ones. Maybe you ought to look for a non-greasy but oil based tonic - Templeton Tonic is the best for that. It's a pure blend of oils but absorbs really quickly that you hardly feel greasiness.

    • @michoeljones
      @michoeljones 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Best tonic in my opinion and not oil based is pinaud quinine hair tonic. It leaves the hair feeling and looking healthy. The hold is minimal though and no shine of course. I love the smell, but from what I have read it's love / hate. It doesn't dry the hair and in my opinion makes the scalp feel the most healthy of any product. Good for thin hair that oil based or creams are gonna flatten. Maybe you can do a review?
      For more of a hold, clubman molding paste (which is a seperate company from the ed pinuad lineup from my understanding ) is a great inbetween of a pomade with some texture of a wax that doesn't weigh down thin hair as much. Also would be cool if you can review. Has a great smell.

      Rockabilly Rebel21 I will no longer be able to fulfill the requests I've had, but can only do products made for short hair like Lucky Tiger as well as texturizing products like homebrewed pastes and clays. As soon as I can make new videos again I will make an update video but will be doing a lot less reviews and cannot do old school grease reviews. Expect to see more greaser-related vlogs though

      Squinty's Grease Reviews have you tried got2b grooming wax?

    • @pomadesandpomps
      @pomadesandpomps  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rockabilly Rebel21 I'm not one to use salon products nowadays, I'm all about using traditional barber products and homebrews. 3 years before I used my first pomade, I've actually tried Schwarzkopf's Got2B Rockin' It wax, can't remember much of it but what I recall is that it has a sticky feel and somewhat pastelike consistency with a sharp green apple scent. Probably a low to medium shine, can't remember much. Hold mostly comes from how sticky it is.
