What’s crazy to all of you California cats, is that this dude was so famous that all the way in the Midwest, me from Milwaukee, Wisconsin we had heard of him without no internet, no social media! It was because of graff mags that were sold in graff shops and we’d see OILER up in his city and all up in the mags.
What a legend all the way from Milwaukee 👑👑👑🏆🏆🏆

Awesome story. Looking back, its the writers that were killed or died young that I will always remember, and the older we get the list g3ts longer...One had to hit busses and the bus yards in SF in the early days or nothing at all, they were everything. Scribes were an LA phenomenon and noone was scribing in SF until the mid 90s. Oakland cats were already scribing their transit. OILER's explanation of "Repping your name" by being a decent person is spot on. With so many older heads around still painting I would say to all the youngsters start asking them the questions you have now, learn from them now cause we/they ain't gonna live forever. "The GAME" really got going when MsK moved to SF...and I'll always have respect for them for how they moved back then.

I grew up in Santa Monica, Venice area. I started writing as a teen. I wrote CLASH One...the homie Pete passed the name down. I was off to the races with it. I always saw Oiler tags and bombs...he had landmark tags everywhere. The bus scene was great, it chauffeured our tags from the Westside, to the valley, Eastside, LAX area... I spent lots of time at the Motor Yard.
Cool to see a channel about graffiti

On the 101 freeway heading north into downtown after you pass the 6th street bridge, on the left, there was this building with a brick facade and a staircase. Well at an angle following the stairs upwards were two SACRED OILER throwies and these throwies remained there FOREVER. I remember seeing them as a kid on the freeway damn up until the mid 2000s when I was older driving the freeways my damn self. OG landmarks. Then, one day, don’t remember when: poof they were gone! I remember being heartbroken lol. Those throwies ran for probably 15-20 years. Wish I could find a flick.

Besides seeing Sacred’s scribes on the buses I would see him on school buses as well. Multiple school buses I was on in middle school and high school… and they were already several years old too (he’d usually write the year)

I know hands down he was a TRUE KING OF L.A GRAFFITI!!! He was up all over Broadway in DTLA as well as ALL CITY!! He would have destination spots on the bus, For those who don't know what a destination spot is, It's where it says by the bus windshield but on top of that where the bus says where it would be going he had scribes as well as on the L.A COUNTY bus on every window and if you really want to take it back some time there was a store in Melrose called Beat Non Stop and he would be in the Graff. Mags that they sold too💯💯 I'm a 80's Baby it this guy is a TRUE KING AND LEGEND IN GRAFFITI He was doing it all Tagging, Scribing, And Bombing in that time!!! 💯💯💯💯

It was fun while it lasted but after a while i got in to music and joined a rock band in 94
