  • In-Home Support Services (IHSS) may be available to people receiving MediCal, including Regional Center (RC) consumers. Your child or young adult may live in your home or in their own home and be eligible for IHSS.
Have you been thinking about applying for IHSS for your youth as they enter transition to adulthood and move toward independent living?
Or is IHSS already in place, and you’re wondering how IHSS works with the regional center’s assisted living benefits (if eligible) when your young adult/adult moves out of your home?
No matter where your family is on their IHSS journey, you probably have questions.
Please join us as benefits consultant Jim Huyck of Huyck Consulting answers your questions after giving a brief overview of the IHSS program.
Jim has served as Executive Director of Alta California Regional Center in Sacramento and has served the needs of the disabilities community for over 40 years. He has assisted families and their loved ones with disabilities as they navigate through Special Needs Trusts and various public benefits.

As an IHSS provider, you do not have to be part of the Union, I just got my orientation a few days ago; the first 50 minutes were about selling the union, the benefits, and so on. The union representative always talked about the benefits, he never mentioned that there is no obligation to enroll. When I gave him my empty form he got mad. Thank you so much for all the information you provided.
