  • Have you heard of the Social Security Administration’s (SSA’s) Disabled Adult Child (DAC) program, also called Childhood Disabled Beneficiary (CDB)? Do you know that DAC may provide a person with a disability from 50 to 75% of a parent’s SSA benefit?
Please join health care and benefits administration expert Daniel Fortuño as he explains DAC eligibility, requirements, and benefits, including:
-The parent of the person with the disability must be receiving Social Security retirement or disability benefits
-The adult child has an SSA approved disability from age 18 prior to age 22 and may become eligible for Medicare after receiving DAC for at least 2 years
-How to provide the SSA with the records it needs to best support the application for DAC
Daniel Fortuño, President CEO of the Benefits Education Center, has over 30 years' experience in training, counseling, and education in health care and benefits administration. He is highly skilled in interpreting public and private health, as well as public benefits programs, including Social Security, Medi-Cal, and Medicare.

I used to get SSI years ago. When my father worked and retired at age 62, I was transferred from SSI to DAC and never looked back. I no longer have to worry about $2000 limit. Also, I have Medicare and Medicaid. Now I'm getting $1600 a month with Medicare and Medicaid, and soon to get additional benefits like VA and DFAS that pays even more money. I'm super, super blessed! :)

@@anobviousburner-ez5cy I no longer receive SSI. It was stopped after my dad retired at 65 and received his retirement benefit, and I received 50 percent of it. Now, after he passed away, I receives 75 percent of his benefit as a survivor.

How long does it take to transition from SSI to DAC? My friend received her first DAC check on September 3rd but also received an SSI check on September 1st. According to her Award letter her DAC check was supposed to be over $2,500 but they reduced that amount by the amount of her SSI check. I thought DAC benefits were supposed to replace SSI benefits if the amount is high enough.

Would the SSI determination letter from the SSA Admin Judge who established the onset of the disability on the claimants 18th Birthday satisfy the documentation requirements that the disability occurred before the age of 22? The claimant was terminated from the SSI program because they did not receive cash benefits for 12 months because of excess resources, so they are not eligible to be considered automatic under collateral estoppel..

My daughter has been on disability for probably 20 years and I got SSDI about 4 years ago. They just now contacted us and let us know... And they have suspended her checks so she is no longer getting any kind of income non-zero.. so we did this and I did it over the phone and the guy that took the information said that they aren't even accepting any applications for adult child disability right now so I am extremely upset she has zero income while we wait for whatever when they're not even accepting the application they took it but they're not going to process it because they're not doing that right now like how can they do this

My friend is 64 years old and has received SSI benefits continuously since she was 19 years old due to disability. Recently, she was instructed by the SSA to apply for DAC benefits but they denied her application stating there was nothing in the record showing she was disabled from age 18 to 22. We are appealing the decision and sent a copy of her Verification of Benefits letter which clearly states that she was found disabled under their rules on July 1, 1978 when she was 19. Shouldn’t this be sufficient?

I was receiving SSI. BEFORE THE age of 22 iam now 37 and started my SSI benefits in the year 2005 now I had a representative payee who was my grandma and upon her passing in 2016 my sister became my payee well Social Security messed up and continued to send all my documents to my deceased grandma instead my sister who was my newly appointed representative payee I lost my SSI benefits in 2016 because of this well any I fought and fought for 3years finally getting my benefits back in 2019 but now my father is receiving is retirement benefits and my mother just turned 62 in October in her SSI just turn to Social Security but they're telling me I'm not entitled to childhood benefits do you know of away that I can argue that because I believe they are going by the date that my SSI got reinstated which is 2019 instead of 2005 when they initially started just figured I would ask or if you know anybody that can answer that or how can I argue this because I was disabled before 22
