    The 'jingle' just before the game starts is, in my opinion, the most iconic sound of the arcades. It was just 'loud' and you could hear it from the other side of the arcade

      Yeah the jingle at the beginning of both galaxian and Galaga send chills down my spine with nostalgia. More so then pac man or any other arcade game. Something about the sounds of these two games have really stuck with me.

    This game had sounds that made me think of a theremin a little bit, and how that instrument was used a lot in old sci-fi movies. I figure the creators of Galaxian added these types of sounds for humor just as much as for giving that space alien feeling.

  • @acejon2162
    @acejon2162 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I had the starting sound as my ringtone :-)
    Galaxian was the very first game that I've enjoyed in the arcades back then.
    Most of the time i just watch others playing all the arcade games like pacman, crazy climber, space invaders etc as I had limited allowance back then.
    But I did play galaxian enough to reach 14 flags as far as I can remember.

    Haha! Back in the day I had to skateboard or ride my bike 5 miles to play these games, not to mention work my ass off for my parents doing chores to earn the money to pay for them. Now you can play 100s of games without even getting out of bed... Thanks for the upload and the memories!

    This came out the same year as Taito's Space Invaders Part II, which was also licensed to Midway for the U.S. Space Invaders Part II would thus be the last Taito game Midway handled, as Taito moved to handle all future U.S. marketing of their games themselves.

    8:06 *TO GET A SECOND MISSILE (possibly 3 max [2 missiles max in Galaga] )* , I think you are supposed to let the bird pick you up here (and the countless times before this). The yellow bird will travel in a pack with two red fighters. You kill those fighters, leaving the yellow bird alone. Then the next time that yellow bird comes down you let it grab your missile. It will carry you up. Then you shoot at it to release your missile, but don't shoot your missile! Now you will two missiles to shoot with.
    If you are on your last missiles don't let the birds get you! You get more missiles when you attain a number of points, so keep fighting to the death! They ave the real deal 4' tall GALAGA /GALAXIA ARCADE GAME CONSOLE at Walmart onlie for like 150 usd now! I'm tempted, but I really prefer the RAPID FIRE GALAGA. One of the reviewers stated the Fire Button 'lagged'. Meaning it's the standard ii...ii....ii...ii no matter how fast you fire. But the rapid fire is iiiiiiiiiiii. 😁

    Really hate the word "retro", it's just a game and far better than most of the crap today.

    • @davefish2280
      @davefish2280 8 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Bullshit. You couldn't play this today for more than 10-20 minutes. The gameplay is far too basic and repetitive, and the sound is just annoying.

      +Tony Fisher and +Dave Fish you guys don't know nothing about retro games. Back in the day, people would consider this game fun. This game came out 13 years before I came into the world and I find this game fun.

      MAGNUM05
      I don't think you read the previous comments properly. I said I hated the word "retro" but I love many of the games including this one. I played it when it first came out for hours on end at the local arcade. After probably 20 years they have it again in one of those multi-game cabinets. Being much older I don't play it so often but I still enjoy it from time to time. BTW I have no interest in playing anywhere other than on a proper upright cabinet. I hate using consoles for the classic games and never bothered buying one.

    • @davefish2280
      @davefish2280 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      MAGNUM05 Yeah it is fun for like 10-20 minutes, for sure. It's a solid retro title that just has a lot of staying power, but it's not a good game by today's standards at all. I grew up in the 80s and spent most of my life in arcades and even when I was 10 I would walk by this peice of crap to play Kung Fu Master or Chase HQ or something that was actually fun.
